Vatican. Early morning. Everything is calm. The oldest stone road leads to the ordinary, light-yellow building. A simple rectangular-shaped building with a triangular roof. This is the old home church without the external bas-reliefs and any decorations. This is the unremarkable building, except that this place is the most rich treasure trove in the world.
You’re inside. There is another world. Everything around you is result of talents of the greatest geniuses. Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, Pinturicchio, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Cosimo Rosselli. The great Florentines created a brilliant series of frescos depicting the Life of Moses and the Life of Christ. Here are works of all the greatest Renaissance painters. All of them deserve special attention. But today we’re going to talk about main jewelry of this unique place.
You’re in the Sistine Chapel - heart of Catholic World, the main jewelry of Vatican. Today it is the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. Raise your head, close your eyes, open them, but imagine travelling back 500 years.
You can see man. He stays on the special soaring scaffold, he raised his head, he don’t feel the arms, his back hurts so badly that he can’t sit, the colors eating away at eyes and the mold gave him ear’s infection. It’s hard for him. But...It’s not important. He doesn’t see you, or his assistant, or anybody. He pays no attention to the comfort or pain. He doesn’t care about it. Right now, he is creating one of the greatest masterpiece of art in the entire history.
His name is Michelangelo Buonarroti and he is the best sculpture his time. Why does sculpture paint? There is interesting story. He had to make tomb for Pope. But Bramante, so to speak, the main designer of Pope, who envied Michelangelo, was afraid that this new tomb could outshine his own works. He convinced Pope to abandon construction of tomb and entrust him creating of fresco for the ceiling. Buonarotti has never painted fresco before, and Bramante was sure that he can’t do it and even prepared another candidate for this position (another great Italian painter, Raphael Santi). However, he was wrong.
Here’s hoping your Monday has a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus. Michelangelo got the latter part right in his painting, but I didn’t see where he put the coffee. 🤷🏻♀️
This is MY newest favorite book from the latest releases. “What is sleep...” the question that every mom asks. 😒😂 Felicity has entered another round of teething and has a runny nose on top of that, which is really throwing off her sleep game.
Jimmy is still sleeping like a champ, at least at night time, and has been really intrigued by dreams lately! This book is so perfect for him! I love the questions it walks you through as it shares why people sleep, who sleeps, what happens when we sleep... the perfect introduction for busy kids on the go! 🙌🏻 Okay, family. Let’s all snuggle on the couch and read this before taking a good, long nap. Plus more coffee for me, please. 😁
@charmerycard.captor.sakura wanted her dogs paws touching similar to The Creation of Adam! This was super fun to do! Thank you so so much for trusting me with your skin! #apprenticetattoo#creationofadam#tattoo
