"Mauve" alc ink on 8" round
Here is another round for today's painting of the day! Working with purple always puts a smile on my face. Extra smiles are great for the middle of the week, don't you think? 🤗

I’m getting as much studio time this week because next week I’m headed out to the east coast for my first & much needed vacation this year! I’ll be visiting Portland, Maine, Acadia National Park, Boston, and Cape Cod!😍 Give me your recommendations of things to do, places to eat, coffee shops, and anything cool to see below!
Tomorrow: Come meet the lovely lady behind @thestoryshopstudio at ANDERS! Shannon will be at the shop from 6-8pm with a selection of the beautifully curated small-batch fashion from her online boutique... plus, it’s Thursday night, so of course we’ll have rosé to sip! 😄 // Side note: We have to thank @gatherseattle for bringing us all together... @judyleephotography told Shannon about us, and @draganalassiterphoto took this beautiful photo. We so appreciate the community you’ve built, @designanddigest! 💛
Hope to see many of your smiling faces tomorrow!! ✨🤗
Artists are the chefs of culture. What the artist produces, culture will consume and replicate. Artists have a choice to choose truth or lies. You can see the resounding consequences of those who have chosen lies— fashion photographers showing girls that they are not skinny enough . Music videos that promote abuse. Poetry and lyrics that make materialism the only thing that can make you happy. Imagine if those were filled with truth— fashion photographers showing health in diversity of all sorts of woman. Music videos that taught consent and respect. Lyrics that point to your identity being in how much God loves you instead of what you do, what you have, and who you date. 🌿🌿🌿🌿
I love seeing artists #rewritethescript . When I create I am thinking of the truths I can tell. That bodies are beautiful and should be respected not objectified. That refugees are people who should not be feared but welcomed and celebrated and make us better. 🌿🌿🌿🌿
BUT WHAT IF I’M NOT AN ARTIST?
The responsibility of choosing truth over lies falls on the consumer just as much as the artist. What articles do you read? What companies do you buy from? What art do you buy? Help artists rewrite the script by purchasing and consuming art that doesn’t sexualize, demonize, or objectify people. Buy art from small businesses where you are helping families put food on the table instead of mass produced art sold at Target or Walmart that exploit artists. How are ways you promote truth telling in art? Share your ideas bellow! 🌿🌿🌿🌿
Who’s ready to rewrite the script with me?🙋♀️
Loving these zippered pouches Marcy of @shipwreckportland made with our textiles. I started illustrating these patterns just about a year ago and it's fun to see the product evolve. You can find these and our napkins in her lovely shop here in PDX or DM me! 🤗🌿 #laurelautumndesign
...so I haven't been very creatively inspired this year and doesn't know how to get out of this nothing-happening-black-hole. How do you find inspiration? What do you do for a mood-lift? I need some ideas...🙃😩🙊
And we’re back 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Lately I've been thinking about what it means to be true to yourself and your values.
For me it's about being more intentional in all areas of my life; from making sure clients are the right fit for my brand before taking on a project, to actively connecting with people who share my values, and also finding ways to spend more time doing what I love and what I'm good at and outsourcing (where possible!) the things that don't excite or energise me.
What does being true to yourself mean to you?
How’s it going today, friends?⠀
I can tell you that MY week has been…I’ll say… amazing and exhausting.⠀
It’s a kids’ cooking camp week for me and I’ve been managing prep lists, lesson plans, cultural points and washing a thousand dishes!⠀
Yet I am so grateful that I get to make my living teaching young kids how to gain independence and confidence in the kitchen.⠀
I feel like their auntie when we are cooking together, combining ingredients to create memories.⠀
So on days when stopping seems oh-so-tempting, I remember the words of Albert Einstein, and charge ahead:⠀
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving”. ⠀
KEEP MOVING, friends! If we’re lucky, we’ll catch the wind in our hair!⠀
What’s your next move, mama? I think you know what it is.⠀
Dry skin in the summer is a seriously problem for my hands, so I’m glad @handmdskincare hooked my up with my new fix. I have their Daily Dual Repair serum and it’s already worked wonders on my hands! They have a few other amazing products that I need to try soon! Check out their full line at handmd.com

It is Wellness Wednesday and I thought I will share my collaboration with #wellnessblogger Hannah from @okaygypsy. It has been a magical four weeks since I joined this online community and I want to thank you each of you for thoughtful and supportive comments. I can now see the power of social media and the power of intention behind each of you who strive every day to create a more joyful, healthier, and supportive space......Happy Reading!!!!
I spent the better part of 3 decades trying to be "good" to be worthy. And the whole time, I was running from my truth. I didn't believe I was worthy of love or friendship or acceptance without good-ing my way into everyone's corner. It took 27 years for me to realize that I didn't have to belong in anyone else's corner but my own. The journey back into myself has been one of the most incredibly uncomfortable, rewarding, life-changing, heart-expanding, difficult, self-love filled journeys I've ever been on.
So, here I am ... standing tall, proud of the woman that I'm becoming, grateful for the corner I'm still making my home, and full of gratitude and awe that I get to do life on planet earth alongside women like @ashton_m_long who's created a space like @theauthenticwomanseries to help women ditch the lies and step into their own power. You don't have to fight for your worth, my love. You don't have to good your way into anyone else's graces to receive your own. And you can use your voice to remind every other woman in your life of that doubt-shattering truth!
So, I hope you'll join me and dozens of other women this week with an Instagram revolution. We're replacing selfies with head-to-toe photos revealing our FULL selves and sharing why we are worthy. Post the picture to Instagram using the hashtag #theauthenticwoman and go scroll the hashtag. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's to you and your corner. May you find it, may you own it, and may you know that you've always been worthy of it.
