#mindmatters do you ever use food as a filler? most of us should probably say yes - I definitely have! what i mean is that we use food for something else other than fuel. food can provide comfort and it can also boost our serotonin levels (aka mood hormone). as a result sometimes we reach for food as comfort, or a “filler” as I like to say.
recognizing this is challenging, especially if it requires you to change a thought cycle that has dominated for years. but as we move into these winter months and the slew of emotions the holidays bring, don’t let food fill your life. instead choose to fuel you life with food, and fill your life with joyful moments!! here are some helpful tips to help you stay full, minimize the cravings of comfort or sweets, and enjoy the holidays without the stress of food!
▫️choose slow carbs. these are the carbs that slowly raise your blood sugar (aka legumes, whole grains, potatoes, carrots, and peas etc.). you’ll have longer lasting energy!
▫️ladle up on stews/soups/chili. they’ll help you feel warm for that comfort aspect on a chilly day, but they’re also high in fiber + lean protein, which equals longer feeling of fullness!
▫️make meals count. choose to add a ton of high-fiber veggies, as well as a serving of lean protein and healthy fat. all three of these are slower digesting, which means longer lasting energy and feeling full longer!
▫️portion comfort foods. pick in advance when and where you want to splurge on desserts/drinks/meals, and then stick with it! portion your servings carefully and most importantly enjoy that when you eat it. ▫️don’t forget about water. drink half your body weight in fluid ounces of water!
▫️don’t skip workouts. it’s harder to get moving in the winter, no lie. but after the first 10 minutes it will be worth your while! no one said it was easy, but you’ll have overall decrease stress levels, increased mood boost, and it will warm you up!

have grace with yourself - food sometimes may be used as a filler and you know what, that’s ok! habits don’t change overnight, but stay persistent and consistent. don’t look back you’re not headed that way!
#tacotuesday , Waz Up?! 🌮 🌯 I stir fried potatoes and simmered in roasted salsa. Created my own little burrito/taco situation. Added some SPICY 🌶 @bitchinsauce (a little goes a long way, organic alfalfa sprouts and avocado. The roasted veggie salsa is roasted red pepper, kosher salt, 3 cloves of fresh garlic roasted (do NOT use the stuff in oil), 2 roasted Anaheim peppers, and 3 small vine tomatoes plus a pinch of cumin. 🔥 I have to take it easy on the spice. If you want a spicy salsa, add Serrano or jalapeño peppers. I used the veggies I had. Corn tortillas, flour, pita bread, whatever works! I was craving flour. That rarely happens!#usewhatyouhave •
Cook chicken breasts seasoned with pizza seasoning in oven, 30 minutes on 400, when they are cooked, top with pizza sauce, I used @freshthyme roasted garlic pasta sauce and cooked that down in a sauce pan with pizza seasoning and garlic...because GARLIC...then topped the chicken with sauce, top with cheese if you want, I used vegan soy free mozzarella @daiyafoods then your fav toppings...(we are changing how we did it)...we use turkey pepperoni and peppers, and I would broil that until crispy and golden...we did the cheese on top and cooked peppers with chicken, needed all peps to be crispier! So next time we broil.

Sometimes I just crave comfort food - even if it’s not necessarily comfort food I grew up with! Homemade omurice (Japanese tomato flavored fried rice omelette) - but with SPAM instead of the traditional chicken (what? 🤷♀️ I actually really like spam). Let’s talk about craving for a sec, I used to crave carbs and sweets like crazy. But lately that has completely changed, I have been taking my veggie magic beans in the afternoon and they have mostly cut out that afternoon sweet tooth, cause let’s be real I love a little treat every now and then. But this morning I woke up and was craving this meal. I was looking forward to it all morning at work haha for the past few months since taking these magic beans I have been craving more healthy and wholesome meals. It has been so amazing! .
