September was always one of my favourite months but the last few years I’ve just not been feeling it. The post holiday blues and back to school chaos makes me feel bit meh!
So in a bid to try and embrace the season a little more we’ve been finding pretty leaves and searching for conkers. I have also filled my home with pretty candles oh and I’ve purchased quite a few chunky knits - retail therapy definitely helps!
Happy Thursday 🍁🍂
Had a bit of a mare this evening. Tiredness. Frustration. Confusion. Patience. Mum guilt. From everyone, well except the mum guilt, that bit was all me. Nonetheless All the crap that comes chucked into this world of parenting. It is what it is and tomorrow is a new day.
My boys 💕
Feeling all the Mum guilt today because I sent Leo to school feeling poorly. I knew he wasn’t right but I thought the calpol and inhaler I gave him just before class would perk him up.
School phoned at 12 saying he was ill but not too bad, they phoned again at 1 saying he was worse and he needed picking up but I couldn’t get to him until 2.
It’s been an afternoon sponsored by CBeebies and cuddles and I hope my boy is better tomorrow.
How do you decide whether your child is too ill for school? Today I made the wrong call, i guess that’s ok though. We all mess up sometimes as mums, the important thing is to not beat ourselves up when we do! #mumguiltsucks
Kids loved finding the colony of Bee Sculptures that are placed all around the city of Manchester at the weekend. We managed about 20 in a day, but there are 100 to see, dotted all around the city!! #beeinthecity#manchester#bees
A couple of years ago I received a @thepeoplesponcho to review which fast became my go to cover up for rainy days (especially when camping and for festivals). Well, they now have a fab new kids range which is perfect for adding to your bag for any unexpected Autumn showers as they fold down into little bags so don't take up much room, plus they look bright and colourful too!! Finish this sentence for me please you guys... ‘The best way to stop my kid bringing home germs from school is..’ And so it begins, school has started back and, therefore, the snot, coughs and high temperatures have returned as well.
I’m looking into ways of boosting the whole family’s immune system. The common autumn/winter theme since Alex has been born has been as follows: Leo goes to school, Leo brings home loads of germs, Alex gets ill and ends up either in hospital or at the doctors, Leo gets ill, I get ill, we all get better just in time for Leo to bring home the next bug.
Send help, medical advice, wine, cake, gallons of calpol and loads of tissues please! If the bugs have already set up camp then I feel like we are going to be in for a loooong winter!
Anyone else dealing with back to school bugs already too?
After cruising and birthday celebrations it was back to reality today. I’ve been very lucky these last few weeks and owe lots of a people a big thank you. You know who you are. This photo is the next generation of friends in my grandma’s garden playing with a skipping rope that I played with as a kid and tennis rackets from the actual 80s, or before 😬. Can always trust my grandparents to have some old gems. I once found a tin of soup from 20 years ago in the cupboard.
Had an amazing time camping ⛺️ this weekend we pretty much had the fields to ourselves.... we didn’t go to sleep till 2.30 in the morning 🙈😬🤣 we had our very own mini glow stick rave too! Having a chill day today to get over all the excitement 😴w
Somehow an entire summer has passed in the blink of an eye! How’d that happen so fast? It seems the flowers are still clinging onto the last of it despite the cold, rainy, autumnal weather setting in. 🌼
As the older one gets more complex (aaagghh Sunday night homework 🤬) I love that this one can’t think of anything better than a walk on the common with his dog and his football and then a Coca Cola and packet of crisps in the pub afterwards.
Today's view and clothing is a lot different to last week but we're still getting out and about. We're wrapping up to go stomping round Upton Country House and blow some of my cobwebs away as I'm still not feeling great!
Last day with this little one before she’s off to school tomorrow! Possibly THE latest reception starting school in the universe! She’s had sooooooooo long to wait and I think she’s going to literally bounce in - she’s so ready! But I’m preparing myself for a week of a few melt downs and early nights. She’s always been our best sleeper- she needs lots of sleep and I think school’s going to exhaust her. Very much like our @hannahkatyw for loving her sleep!
I’m so glad the weather is beautiful today 😍 I’m off for a camping weekend and bringing my best friend with me. We probably will play all weekend, eat too much chocolate and stay up sooooo late! That’s what being a kid is right? #makingchildhoodmemories
I am going to go there with the soppy proud mum bit. She’s finished her first week at school and she’s done brilliantly. She wanted to go back tomorrow. She’s absolutely loving it and her teacher made a point of telling me how impressed she is with her. It’s a nice relief to know that starting school as the youngest in the class was the right thing for her. Phew. I doubt it’ll last but for now, I’ll take it.
The weekend is in sight! It’s Friday and we are both ready for the weekend. This chap will have had his first full week back at school and so far all seems to be ok. He’s certainly going in quite happily. But then today we will see what homework he’s getting and that will probably change everything. I’m not sure who will be dreading looking in his bag the most this afternoon! How is School going for you guys? #mysonismyworld#naturedetective
When you ask the hubby to get a nice photo of you and the kids next to some pretty wild flowers and they just hug you so much you end up in a heap on the floor.
If anyone sees a pile of flat flowers in Brynmill Park, soz that was my kids!
“Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.” - this scene melted my heart this week. Kian is off to university tomorrow and insisted on taking Isaac to the school for his residential trip as it's the last time he will see him before he goes and as for little Sebby, he is going to be lost without him at home as he idolises his big brother!! #brothers#schoolrun#schoolresidential
Perhaps not the finest photo (when you let the other half loose with the camera) but here we are mid Norwegian Fjords cruise visiting Olden. It was a holiday like no other and I’ve written all about it on the blog today. I’ve even made a little blog of our stay is you just fancy the visual version. Link in bio.
The #giraffe obsession shows no sign of waning. This boy is such a contradiction at times. One minute he’s running around and talking about bombs and blowing everything up (please tell me that’s just a boy thing) and the next he’s standing so still, taking everything in and relishing at looking at the world around him. He’s full of energy from the moment he wakes up to the second he falls asleep. He’s exhausting, often challenging but he’s still adorable. To me any way. #mysonismyworld#myson 💙
I think it's safe to say that Autumn is Lyra's favourite season. There's always the best 'treasures' to be found in the woods and Lyra takes full advantage. Anyone else have little ones whose pockets are always full with things they've collected?
I can see he’s going to be after my camera before I know it. Wherever we go he has his own camera to hand, although he takes way more video footage than I do. It is lovely to compare our shots at the end of each adventure. It’s Wednesday. We’re half way to Friday. I caught him writing out Roman numerals last night he’d been learning at school. Much more important apparently than getting sleep. I wonder what today will hold for him. #myson#mysonismyworld
Sunburn alert! Packing for a day out with the kids at the zoo and I tried to be so organised by making a packed lunch, packing drinks and ensuring we all had sensible shoes – but I forgot the suncream, thankfully only I got burnt but OUCH!
We did have a great day though. Posting realistic images of family life on social media is so important, even if it does mean showing off the red bits or the times the kids are fighting because they don’t want to wait in line. I feel so strongly about this that I have teamed up with @GrouponUK on its #SummerUnfiltered campaign, which is all about celebrating the realness on social media and sharing those hilarious ‘unfiltered’ moments with your kids. We had a great day at Colchester Zoo and will be visiting Groupon for more deals on days out soon #AD gr.pn/EmmysMummy
This time last week she was throwing stones in he fjord of Flåm. Today she’s getting ready for her second day of school. 😩. We’re going to miss our pre school life for sure. Yesterday was a success. Thank goodness. She came out wanting to go back. Hurrah. Me on the other hand! I’ve long been pedalling the mantra that we’re ready for school but I was not expecting yesterday. Yesterday was sad. I shed more tears than I expected. Read all about it on the blog. Link in bio.
Hope your Monday went well. I’m already missing the blue skies from the weekend. It feels summer is holding on before Autumn takes over. Which is your favourite season? I do love the summer but I also love getting cosy when the nights start drawing in. Pic from our walk to Man Sands in Sunday. It was a glorious day to be exploring the coast.
