Last night I went to an interesting seminar run by a local Canine Physio. I see so many dogs with hip or elbow dysplasia or even cruciate ligament injuries so understanding a little more about dealing with them is important to me. It's amazing my little brain doesn't explode with the amount of information I ask it to absorb. What is it they say....... Knowledge is power? #furrydogmother#continuedprofessionaldevelopment#alwayslearning
I actually completed this a while back but it’s taken a while to chase them up. CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. This qualification allows me to work with individual patients with one or more specific controlled medical conditions (after they have been referred from a medical professional). Research is constantly evolving and as practitioners, we have a responsibility to stay up to date with new, emerging data.
As part of my continued professional development this week, I have been learning all about the gut microbiome (the ecosystem of our gut) and how it impacts digestive health (ofcourse!), our stress response, metabolic status and mood/ depression.
The vital connections between our gut and brain is an absolutely fascinating field and combined with my background, is one of the key reasons I decided to specialise in digestive (and brain) health.
Did you know that an imbalance in gut microbiota has shown to impact depression and anxiety? And that 90% of serotonin (our happy hormone) is produced in the gut?
A placebo controlled cross over trial in 2016 using a strain of probiotics (with psychobiotic properties), showed an improved stress response, prevented anxiety and positively altered brain function. Similarly, certain strains of probiotics work to reduce systemic inflammation and support intestinal permeability, providing support for a whole range of conditions and disorders. There has been a lot of negativity recently about the use of probiotics but it’s important to remember that supplements should always be used with a personalised and targeted approach (one size doesn’t fit all!). It’s always best to consult a qualified practitioner to help you create a healthy flourishing gut, with a balanced microbial ecosystem 🧠 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to @invivolifestyle for organising an amazing mastercourse on the microbiome! Looking forward to the remaining lectures
