💛 Our Lady of Fatima 💙 "...a light cut the air and a lady dressed in white, shining brighter than the sun, giving out rays of clear and intense light, just like a crystal glass full of sparkling water when the sun passes through it. We stopped astounded by the Apparition. We were so near that we were in the light which she radiated... The light's reality cut into our hearts and our souls, and we knew somehow that this light was God, and we could see ourselves embraced in it." Sr. Lucia at 10 years old.
Last year, during the 100 year anniversary of Our Lady appearing at Fatima, I was inspired to create a new image of her. Intimated by this prospect, I began immediately to pray for guidance and went to research the little saints' descriptions of our Blessed Mother and the quotes above struck me deep in my core. I began to imagine what this light could look like and remembered what happens when light shines through crystal... It breaks up into a prism and all the colors become visible.
She is also dressed in white - and white is the reflection of all colors - so she, radiating heaven's light, is making visible the glory of God in all of heaven and earth's colors even to the least of us. 😍
This painting came from many months of prayer and hard work, trying desperately to capture an ounce of the grace which Our Lady brought that day and which she brings to us everyday. It now resides in the chapel at Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House here in Indianapolis - so come visit and pray with her awhile... It is now one of my favorite places to contemplate her gentleness and love of her children.
Oldie, but goodie. I miss #pennhurst hospital sometimes. A lot of these places barely exist anymore and it's the duty of the few of us who care to document the final days of their bout with nature and entropy.
