Throwback to an amazing #CatoDigital discussion on cameras and police accountability, held in the wake of Ferguson. Next Thursday, I’ll be moderating a conversation at the @CatoInstitute on the complex legal and practical issues surrounding 3D-printed guns. You can RSVP at cato.org/events. 💥🔫
And now a word from one of our sponsors! We’re thrilled to have the @ywca_bc with us again helping make our film festival possible!! The YWCA has been serving Bergen County since 1920 with programs that improve lives, inspire change, and create opportunities. They provide safe, welcoming places for women, girls, and families to learn, share, and grow; support women and girls on their paths to educational, career, and financial success; and advocate for women’s rights and civil rights. #tiff#ywca#ywcabergencounty#thankyou#sponsor#filmsponsor#activism#makingchange @ywca_bc

The bill, HB 903, was filed on Dec. 6 by State Rep. Cord Byrd (R-Neptune Beach) would allow judges to restore the rights of felons after they've completed prison sentences and probation.
Florida currently prohibits convicted felons from owning firearms or voting. "Currently, the average wait time for Restoration of Rights is over 9 years, with some as long as 11 years," Byrd wrote in a Facebook post. "Over 22,000 applications are pending, with only a few hundred being processed each year. Clearly the system is broken." "Under the bill, people convicted of felonies would have to petition a county judge to have the rights restored."

We applaud Senator @corybooker for being an incredible ally in the fight for Equality.
During the Judiciary Committee hearing for Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, Senator Booker pressed Kavanaugh on his problematic history with important LGBT issues such as employment discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals and same-sex marriage. Senator Booker also recently joined 11 of his Senate colleagues in a letter to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), urging the VA to add coverage for gender reassignment surgeries to its medical benefits package.
Thank you again to Senator Booker for you continued support and advocacy for the LGBT community.

¿Cierto o no?

Instead of “what do you want to be” why don’t we ask kids (and adults) “how do you want to live?” Why pick the vehicle without knowing the destination first? How do you want to live? Where do you want to be in five years? Is the vehicle/career/lifestyle you’re currently in going to really get you there?
The way Premier Doug Ford is going about slashing the size of Toronto city council is undemocratic and unconstitutional. The courts just affirmed this to us all. Now authoritarian Doug is evoking the "notwithstanding clause" to override the courts judgment. I find it terrifying that his supporter base fails to understand the crucial role the courts play in protecting our democracy and constitutional rights. The courts are there to prevent a misuse of power like this. This is no longer a debate about efficiency within the council. This is fundamentally about democracy in practice. To slash the city council by half without meaningfully consulting constituents, during a municipal election, is not democracy. Being so quick to use the notwithstanding clause to override the court ruling is an even more shocking misuse of power and an attack on the separation of powers fundamental to functioning democracy.
Yes, September 11, 2001 was a travesty but when you do the research, you will see it was an inside job in order to push the #patriotact . The patriot act was designed to take away our freedoms and #constitutionalrights . It is a shame thousands of lives were sacrificed for a sinister plot to invade Muslim countries in the #MiddleEast where they killed millions.
When you look at the footage of these "fake attacks", you will see it was missles and NOT planes that were used. On top of that, there is visual and verbal proof of bombs that were exploding inside of the buildings the planes hit. They say #neverforget but they want you to forget the travesty they've committed against black and brown people in America and the world.
In the early 1900s, a white mayor in Oklahoma decided he should be the one to destroy black progress by renting a crop duster plane and dropping sticks of dynamite on the city of Tulsa, killing hundreds of blacks and their children. All because these people were economically free and were beginning to do business with other countries, increasing their wealth beyond measure!
They say "NEVER Forget" 911. This is a rallying cry. But forget the evil and demonic things they do to their own people in this country. These are NOT #conspiracytheories They are #facts
Trillions of DOLLARS have been made off of these heinous crimes in the name of greed and rituals.
