Shiny new @cashmerette #concordtshirt dress and shiny shoes!
For those curious: I sized down to the 12 with C/D cup (previous was a 14, same cup size) and graded out to a 16 at the hip. I also raised the V almost 2”. After this version I did a 1/2” swayback adjustment and I’m ready to cut out the next one!
#sewphotohop Day 23 is easy sew. My favorite easy sews are knit tops. Featured are my @megannielsenpatterns #rowanbodysuit , my @grainlinestudio #larktee and my @cashmerette #concordtshirt hacked to a dress. Also, I missed yesterday which was “what i’m wearing” which is unfortunate because I was actually dressed up for my 20th reunion. Totally didn’t get any pictures 🙄, but I had a great time, so there’s that.
Hello! I'm Marian, and this is Sewing Helper. My mum taught me to use a sewing machine when I was younger, but I didn't really do any sewing until about two years ago when I made SH a hat and was reminded that it was fun :) It's been very helpful since then for making myself a reasonable post-pregnancy work wardrobe 😊😊😊
Wardrobe is @helens__closet #blackwood cardigan in grey merino from @wearethefabricstore (it's amazingly warm for how thin it is - would 100% recommend), Sydney Buses jumper (my dad's; we were visiting today and it was damn cold), @cashmerette #concordtshirt , RTW jeans.
Today’s make: a #concordtshirt by #cashmerettepatterns . I’ve had this pattern for ages, and thought maybe it was time me I made one since I’m always bemoaning the lack of basics in my wardrobe... The fabric is a remnant from @sewisfaction (you may recognise it from Small Girl’s tshirt!) The jersey is rather firm, and as I was afraid of it being too big after my #ogdencami I made a smaller size thinking the jersey would stretch more than it does. Which means it’s tighter than I usually wear my tshirts, but still wearable. It will do well for layering under a #yorkpinafore for example! Next time I think I’ll size up, though. #trialanderror#sew#sewing#sewist#sewistsofinstagram#imakemyownclothes
After a glorious four-hour nap yesterday afternoon, I was wide awake last night. So at 10pm I decided to sew #arenitepants in a navy #washerlinen fabric. (The pieces were all cut out, and sewing time was just over two hours.) I adore the gigantic scoop pockets, but found the bottom elastic cuff veered a little too much into harem-wear. So I hemmed it at the crop length instead and I think it's going to be a brilliant addition to my "it's so hot I'm going to die" summer wardrobe. In terms of alterations, I did my normal front and back crotch adjustments (thanks to @thegreenviolet's advice that saved me a bunch of time), went down a size overall, and went down two additional sizes on the legs. I also did faux flat-felled seams instead of the real thing, because please: ain't nobody got time for that. #cscmakes#curvysewing#plussizesewing#sewcialists#ilovetosew#handmadewardrobe#ilovesewing#memadeeveryday#memade
Made a shirt for my mum because I am a Dutiful Daughter.
Made a @cashmerette #concordtshirt in some cactus knit that she bought from @spotlightstores. This is a test version, and if it's fine, I'll make her one in black because she wants a top for a function.
Fitting process was intensely frustrating. Me: how does that fit? Her: oh, it's fine. Me: ok, it needs to come in a bit at the neck. Her: no, I can just hunch a bit! Me: 🤦🤦🤦🤦 changing yourself to fit your clothes is not what sewing is all about ffs I can change it so it works for you!! 🤦🤦🤦🤦
New me-made t-shirt and leggings. T-shirt is the #concordtshirt by @cashmerette in a hard to photograph almost neon coral from @girlcharleeuk . Leggings are the #p4ppeglegs from @patternsforpirates , which is a freeee pattern (😱) and honestly I must say I'm very impressed with the fit, the waistband feels very secure and lays so flat 👍. I made the high waisted, Capri length version, used the free add on contoured waistband and added a pocket for my mobile in the small of my back. I used a super cute 🐈cotton Lycra jersey from @stoffstil , not sure it has the recommended amount of stretch but it sure worked well. #sewing#curvysewing#curvysewingcollective#oslosews#sewcialists#cscmakes
My latest attempt at sewing knits. Conclusion: my Husqvarna machine cannot deal with knits at all but I am getting better with my coverstitch. The pattern is #concordtshirt from Cashmerette. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I really want to love Cashmerette patterns for the definite benefit of a built-in FBA and I like the style but I don't think they work for me. This is the third pattern I try and it is far from perfect. What is perfect, though, is the fabric from @darrellthomastextiles 😃
I have been wanting to make a shirt out of this fabric for two years and finally got around to it. I decided to do a contrasting hem facing because: fun. I only do facings to hem these days. I had never done one until I started making @cashmerette #concordtshirt and now it is my favorite type of hem on knit shirts!
I made my first #concordtshirt out of #ponteroma fabric around February but it has got so much wear this year what with #britishweather and needing to layer. It's also great to snuggle up in the evenings. It's getting pretty worn out but i cant reconcile making a long sleeved replacement in june! I really like the side vent detail (SWIPE RIGHT)and I added cuffs at the arms. I made the whole thing on the overlocker and used iron-on hemming tape for the hem to avoid topstitching.
Initially inspired by @stephanierdomet and her Ebony dress, I decided I NEEDED a summer swing dress. But I wasn’t so sure about buying the pattern when I knew @curvysewingcollective had a tutorial for hacking a t-shirt pattern into a swing dress, plus @thegreenviolet had some great Concord dress hacks recently. So, I followed the CSC tute using my TNT #concordtshirt and here we are with this wonderfully soft watercolor stripe knit from @stylemakerfabrics (purchased and received almost exactly a year to the day ago...). Not hemmed yet because I can’t decide if this length is okay and just needs a standard hem, or if it’s currently a bit nightgowny and needs a few inches chopped. Thoughts?
The armscye on the backpiece didn't fit me at all so I took the armscye from the Montrose instead. Followed the curve from the waist and drew a new line down to the length I wanted.
I rallied tonight and cut out 4 new projects- really hoping for some sewing wins after a couple recent fails. This is LR: Robert Kaufman melange knit for a #concordtshirt , Nani Iro lawn for a #blueprintscabin , rayon knit for a #louboxdress1 , and Cotton and Steel lawn for a #willowtank . The melange knit was bought on a trip to Fancy Tiger Crafts and rest are all #stonemountainfabric . Really excited to dive into. Thanks sewing peoples for the motivation/ultimatums 😜
New dress! Mystery fabric from the stash. (perhaps I got it from @joann_stores a few years ago?) I had intended to use the @curvysewingcollective tutorial that Jenny wrote for using a T-shirt pattern to make a swing top/dress, but at some point I realized I could graft the #turnerdress skirt onto the #concordtshirt bodice so now we have the Turncord. It’s not quite the same effect, but it’s suuuuuper comfy. My one regret is that I didn’t even think about pockets until about 15 minutes after I got to my training this morning. We’ll give it a couple more wears before deciding whether it’s worth busting out the seam ripper or not.
I have to fit the back too. I was always concerned about rolls 😒😩🙄🙄🙄🤷🏽♀️but I learned to fit my back and the garments typically don’t get stuck where they’re not supposed to 💪🏽. Sewtofit told me “there’s a lot of people that can sew but not many know how to fit”. Soooo, I spend a ton of time on fit but this is easily becoming my favorite 👗!! #madebylaquana @cashmerette #concordtshirt dress hack.
Boatneck hack of my #tnt @cashmerette #concordtshirt dress #madebylaquana . I like the first version but I just free handed the boatneck not bad for my first try, now I need to find 🤔 somewhere to wear it.
It is the LAST DAY of #mmmay18 and I am SO excited about it! I love #memademay every year, but I am so over taking photos by the end of the month. Today I am wearing the very first knit garment I ever made - back in grad school I modified a self-drafted circle skirt to have an asymmetrical effect (which my mother hates because it’s “crooked” 😂🙄). I’ve paired it with a #concordtshirt that I’ve already worn once or twice this month. I’ll post overall impressions of this year sometime in the next few days. Right now I’m headed into one of my schools to clean up some end-of-year details and prep for a training I’ll be “coaching” next week. 🎉
#mmm18 day 29 - brr! It got cool. But not so much that the delectable array of bees and bumblebees stopped their humming and buzzing round this glorious rhododendron in search of pollen. Wearing my @sewhouse7 #toastersweater1 in a micro fleece, a #concordtshirt in a cute flamingo knit I admired for a while and a pair #eleonorejeans#jalieeleonore . Thanks for the 📸 @wildhairqueen
Day 30 of #mmmay18 - outfit is #masseffect hoodie, #concordtshirt with seagulls, hand-me-down jeans, et al.
Have seen a bunch of people saying that Me Made May is too difficult for them because they feel like they have to wear a new outfit every day, and make all new things, or that they have to look nice in their photo which is too difficult to do every day. It is *very* obvious from my month of questionable selfies that I wear the same things constantly (honestly, the big surprise for me looking back was just how often I wear my dark blue #concordtshirt ) so hopefully this gives encouragement to others 😁😀😁😀
Its a #pottertextiles kind of day. pretty sure these were both remnants from there. #concordtshirt under my trusty cardigan. With #kmart jeggings. Mostly a home day. My house looks mostly presentable now 👍 then after school playground trip. Maxed out at 21 after a slow single figures start. #mmmay18#mymemademay
#mmmay18 .*what do you mean I wear a lot of grey?* Super comfy ?velour #concordtshirt . Super warm and cuddly, and long enough for my especially long arms. I added tabs so I could shorten the sleeves at will, but I might remove them because the cuffs make it very tight.
Rainy and cool, maxed out at 21. We were supposed to go race, but we three have been sick for almost 2 weeks and I really didn't fancy hanging out in the cold and rain with two complaining kidlets. #mymemademay
Day 27 of #mmmay18 - outfit is the eternal #masseffect hoodie (hoodie of my heart), a #concordtshirt that you can't see, hand-me-down jeans, ugg boots.
Sewing Helper is wearing hand-me-down shirt and self-sewn (not by her...) #babygotbackleggings by @laurendahlpdx which have actually lasted a lot longer than most of SH's other pants, because there was a good amount of room in the butt. Would recommend! (They look a bit dodgy in these photos, but tbh they've had a lot of wear over the past year, including some accidental part-bleaching)
Rainy #mmmay18 day. Rubbish picture but at least it's there 😁 this is a #cashmerettepatterns#concordtshirt in the longer length with side curved hem plus little elbow ruffles. First wear and I'm thinking it'll get rehemmed shorter because I don't love it atm. I think the fabric is a bit too thin and clingy.
D is having an awesome time jumping in puddles in his pjs and duck gumboots though 😁🦆💛 #mymemademay
Day 21 of #mmmay18 - outfit is the ubiquitous #blackwoodcardigan , a #concordtshirt in some sort of tree-fabric from @wearethefabricstore, work pants, work shoes, fox scarf from England that was very cheap but is also very practical. #sewing
