‚I really want to start to meditate but don’t know how...‘ is what I hear so often. And I’m always wondering - what holds you back? Meditation is the easiest training, it can be done anywhere, you don’t need any special cloths or equipment.
But I get that beginning is not as easy - many wonder if they’re doing it right or understood that it’s good for you but are not really sure why or if it’s a religious thing or not. And I get it. Meditating seems to be very trendy now and people post nice pics and quotes but when you look at the schedule of the nicest yoga studios you will hardly find any meditation classes! Time to change that - and I’m very much looking forward to continue teaching at @ladyline and introducing a new class for @humboldt.uni when I’m back at Berlin! But not everyone has access to any teachers so what I always recommend is to simply start with an app! I always like to see what is out there and so far was very happy with @headspace and right now i’m using @calm. It’s my opening practice - I do the #dailycalm and then just continue with my own technique. Every day there is a different focus and today it was the buddhist concept of #upekkha and it concluded with a quote from @ladygaga. The session ended and I was so amazed!! I was spending a week now in a buddhist nunnery and am going to a center daily for meditation and other sessions - and what I find is that in order to understand these teachings one needs to translate them into everyday life, like having lady gaga explain it in her own words. Cause meditation is a technique originating from religious contexts - but it’s benefits are from everyone, if you have faith or not.

Mountain Morning Meditations
I’ve learned that meditation feels like acts of working creativity for me. Like sometimes you really don’t want to do it. So you do it anyway, and at first you have to concentrate, then concentrate again, and again. But then, you hit a point where it feels natural and you don’t have to keep concentrating to be there. You’re just there. Flowing. Connected. Dropped in. And it’s effortless.
My favorite part of this originally nine-minute video might be the changing orbs and beams of light, so I sped it up significantly so you could enjoy that, too if you’d like. As far as meditation goes, it definitely helps to move energy in the body before meditating, so part of my morning ritual always involves Pranayama (breath control). Alternate Nostril (grounding) and Breath of Fire (energizing) are my go-to favorites.
Maybe for the length of this video, give this one a try. If you’re anything like me, using this same method before dropping into working or doing anything that requires focus would be very beneficial. I’ll post directions in the comments, and please feel welcome to PM us with any questions.
I really didn’t want to come out of the meditation you see here, but sometimes you vacation with family and they hear you breathing so they come outside to see if you were “having a seance.” That’s life. (Insert Will Smith’s #parentsjustdontunderstand ) You can see the look on my face at the end. 😂
