Got a load of free pallets near Raleigh and used them to build a #composting table in the greenhouse. Now that its filled as the materials inside break down It will help generate heat during winter. A hot compost pile can reach temperatures of 120-170 degrees Fahrenheit (49-77 celcius). In addition to warming things up the top can be utilized as a heated table to start seeds and when spring season starts we will have another big batch of fresh compost to use in the garden.

UPDATE!! Due to the volume of pumpkins being dropped off (2,660 pounds in the past four days) the Great Pumpkin Disposal will continue until AFTER THANKSGIVING!! The totes are located on the north side of the Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave.! We keep emptying the container, and the pumpkins keep coming!
Look how happy that pumpkin is knowing he’s going to be composted!! #GreatPumpkinDisposal#Composting#SmartChoice 🎃 🎃 🎃
Collected some leaves for compost pile. Restacked said pile it had dropped to 60 degrees. Tree down on the fence. And moved the chicken tractor/cold frame up on blocks to add working room. On a farm as with life, their is always something that can be done, to prepare for tommorow.
Composting is next on my list of ways to live more sustainably! We have made huge steps in reducing our waste and consumption over the last year. And with Christmas just around the corner we are looking at what challenges we can take on next year to further lowering our landfill output.
Composting will help us reduce the waste we send to landfil, it will also help us reduce how much of our waste gets recycled. If it can be composted then it will be and then used again organically saving lots of energy and water used in the recycling process.
Anyone got any tips? We won't be able to start doing this until at least January, so lots of time to prepare for it.
Once a year, Grifols’ Green Team takes a deep (dumpster) dive into their current waste management system. This audit helps them find ways to improve their diversion efforts. While not everyone can pull off these dashing outfits quite like them, we can all take a leaf out of their book by improving our own #sustainability efforts!
To date, Grifols has diverted 4,924 pounds of #compostables from the landfill and has created 1,231 pounds of nutrient-rich #compost for local community gardens. Bravo, waste warriors!
It’s official: major garden maintenance is finished until next year 🙌🏻. This past weekend, we pulled the okra and eggplant which were the final remnants of the summer garden. Their respective plots have been tilled and will be sowed with a cover crop this weekend. The rest of the garden is filled with cold weather greens and brassicas that require very low upkeep 🌿.
We will tend to our cold weather crops until they succumb to the freezing temperatures that will come later on in the year. Once these crops are pulled, our garden will rest until early March when we will introduce the compost and begin prepping the soil for next year’s summer garden ☀️.
We have the best partners in DC! Yesterday was the first of many pumpkin deliveries all over the District. Hundreds of pounds donated to @marthastable to be distributed in the community and turned into local meals this holiday season. Thanks @marthastable for your hard work and help to #squashfoodwaste locally.
😍⬅️My face when I see that the wind has blown all the leaves in my car park to a big pile, making it so convenient for me to bag it all up to make leaf mould! 🍁 Simply bag it, poke a few holes in the bin liner, stack it behind your shed and forget about it for a couple of years. The result will be the crumbliest compost that takes zero effort to make! I like to use it as a mulch on my peas and sweet peas to keep their roots cool in the summer. 🍂
If you have a lawnmower, use it to chop them up into smaller pieces first and you’ll have finer compost much sooner! ✂️
If the leaves are very dry, you will need to water them.💦 Decomposition can’t take place without moisture!♻️
How did I not know about these!!!! Fully compostable pods!!! I’ve been so busy grinding beans and avoiding pods as much as possible that I totally missed these in the coffee isle! Now my Keurig and I will no longer have a love hate relationship! ❤️ thank you @mccafecanada
European Parliamant supports plastics ban that would help to eliminate 10 of the worst plastic waste culprits from landfills, oceans, lakes, rivers and streams.
🌎 The Circle of life 🌎 ... you eat and drink yummy plant based food and drinks. You leave your “waste materials” in the compost toilet (dry and liquid matter separated, normal toilet paper included) when the containers are full they get emptied into our “humanure hacienda” where the material cures together with kitchen scraps for 12-16 months (depending if it’s only vegan or also omnivore humanure or if the person takes medicaments etc) covered with hay. Today I was emptying one of the compartments and as usual it’s pure amazingly smelling earth that I mixed into my garden beds straight away. Ready to grow again food that will land in my tummy 🤤
And just like that the circle closes ♻️🌎🤟😁 the fact that in our common toilets we flush away highly fertile compost with drinking water makes one think .... doesn’t it? 🤔🤔 .

It's a chocolatey line up.
Have you treates your plants to some yummy chocolate? If you have haven't then it's high time you did.
Dif you know you can even treat them to their own version of a chocolate drink by making for them a wonderful brew of compost tea, full of wonderful beneficial microorganisms and readily available nutrients?
If you didn't, now you do.
The plant chocolate comes in two sizes 25kg and 10kg.
Click link in bio to order. And for my Lagos peeps, 10kg bags are available at @lgc.ng online store or send her a dm.
Don't deny your plants this goodness 😁
@tescofood to encourage #recycling by customers for #plastic . #UK -based major retailer #Tesco has announced a trial program that will see customers paid 10 pence for each bottle returned, with a total of 10 bottles allowed per customer per day. The bottle can be inserted into a reverse #vendingmachine and the program will initially operate in #Manchester , #Birmingham , #Swansea , #Edinburgh , #Borehamwood and #Hertfordshire . The initiative is a part of a wider effort that Tesco is talking to be more #environmentallyfriendly , which includes their recent signing of the UK Plastics Pact to minimize plastic waste by recycling, #composting and #reusing . Thank you so much, Tessco and other businesses leading the way in #eco endeavours. May your projects help your companies to work in harmony with the #planet on which we live and love.

I watched the clean bin project from 2010...inspiring and saddening at the same time.....I want to do more....We try to shop as local as we can, compost, recycle and reuse items multiple times....but I've decided that we need to do more....we're going to grow more of our own food, look to buy less packaged items or glass based products and start learning to make things from scratch....I can't live with myself knowing that my plastic consumption is the downfall of sea creatures.....change is hard, it may start out small but there's a ripple affect.....love to the planet!
Make better decisions for everybody... not just convienience...(I'm as guilty as everyone else)
