As an Ex-Gymnast who’s goal was to stand for team scotland on that stage of the commonwealth games and compete for my country...
That goal started with a gymnast at my club who I watch stand and compete for scotland in the 2006 commonwealth games, from that day I said I will make it to a commonwealth games.... 8 hard years later I made it and the team won its first ever team medal in history for scotland.
You only seen the medal you didn’t see that the 8Years from saying I will go to a commonwealth games to getting there was one of the hardest thing...
Any high level sports person is on a different level to other people, we sacrificed a lot in our life’s to get there, we don’t go out drinking or partying or eating shit food.. we sacrificed going to our mates 16th 18th and 21st birthday parties, going away on lad holidays, missing family things, being misunderstood why we did all this to get where we wanted to go.
The training was horrendous!! 6 days a week 4-6 hrs a day, getting pushed to the max, falling, failing again and again but still getting up and trying again, getting injuries having to have surgery, trying to get back to full fitness, asking yourself will it pay off am I good enough, having ups and huge downs to when you want to give up and stop the sport, having arguments with your coaches and other but still having that dream that goal of getting to that competition you said you would as a young boy, pushing through all that 👆🏼 written above and finally making it as shown in this photo.... not many people have that mindset and dedication that we have, that I have.... I know how to train at shit times, when you can’t be arsed or don’t want to.
I know it all that’s way I’m now a personal trainer because I have something not a lot of people have.
And by the way..... all that shit.... it was fucking worth it for that silver medal around my neck🏴 #teamscotland#commonwealth#commonwealthgames#glasgow#glasgow2014commonwealthgames#dubaifitfam#dubai 🇦🇪 #dubailife#dubai#fitnessjourney#fitnesslife#fitness#mydubai#mydubailife
Huge effort by @josheng1ish over the weekend. He dropped a decision to a 25 fight veteran in just his second professional fight. Josh had a great amateur career and despite being the best in the country for many years, was unable to represent Australia at The Conmonwealth Games due to the politics of the sport. Being a smaller fighter means he doesn’t have the depth in the division to build his career like many lesser fighters have so he’s forced to take risks like these and should be congratulated for taking more of a risk in his second fight than many do in their entire career. #boxing#australianboxing#commonwealthgames

“I recognise tonight that I am the first within our Paralympic movement to hold up this prestigious award,’’ he said, ‘‘but I have no intention of self-congratulation. I have to point back behind me to the generations of proud men and women with disabilities who allowed me to become the person and athlete that you see fit to receive this award. "I am incredibly grateful [to be the first] and I guarantee I will not be the last.’’ .
