A safety plan is a personalized plan that can help an individual avoid dangerous situations, and know the best way to react when in danger. This plan includes ways to remain safe while in the relationship, planning to leave, or after leaving. A safety plan should be tailored to each specific situation, taking into account a survivor’s needs and disabilities.
There is power in knowledge. Victims and survivors have the right to make informed decisions about their safety and well being. Having an understanding of what drives abuse can be extremely empowering for many victims and survivors. Our advocates at The Initiative are available to provide safety planning, domestic violence/abuse education and awareness counseling, including information on the cycle of abuse, warning signs, and healing after abuse.
For more information on safety planning, please visit www.theinitiativecolorado.org or call us at 303-839-5510.
The Initiative is the ONLY organization in Colorado that has focused services on cross-disability and abuse. “Cross-disability” means that we serve people with all kinds of disabilities, including physical, sensory, cognitive, developmental, mental-health, and health-related. Through our advocacy and outreach programs, The Initiative strives to create an abuse-free culture for all. Disability and abuse are also deeply linked because abuse can cause disability, and people with disability are more vulnerable to experiencing abuse. Physical violence can lead to temporary or permanent physical disabilities, such as broken bones or back injuries. Abuse can also cause the invisible or hidden disabilities like Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), chronic health issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. A monthly donation can help sustain all of these services.
Your tax-deductible donation allows us to continue providing high-quality and individualized services to the Colorado community.
