Half Way, old post. But let it be known that you can go through the hardest of times but with the right mindset anything is possible. Didnt really wanna post this because its not my masters(im coming for you!) but i overcame obstacles and finished my college degree with high honors, and for that I am proud of myself.
Yes? No? Why? What degree(s) did you get? Share your experience below.
For me it’s a yes even though it came with student loans. I got a BA in Communications with a minor in Business. It allowed me to have a foundation of knowledge, skills and experience to get my foot in the door. With hard work, I advanced within the company. By adding value I was able to obtain higher levels of pay every year or two. In 2012 I graduated with my MBA paid for by my employer. This allowed me to expand my mindset and skill set. By adding more value to the company, I again was able to grow my level of pay.
In 2017 I left the company after 11 years to pursue my blog, continue work in marketing with two major clients, run a couple of business with my husband and continue on the journey to build wealth.
For me, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I wasn’t easy or cheap - especially when I was raising two kids while doing it, but it allowed me to gain employment, grow, add value and best of all broaden my entrepreneurial mindset!

What do these celebrities have in common? They don’t have a college degree🎓. Yet, the world is a better place because of their contribution to the entertainment industry, scientific research, and technology. This does not diminish the value of education📚; this expands it. This acknowledges the value of learning 🤓 beyond the walls of a classroom. Learning is NOT exclusive to schools. It’s NOT about what you know; 👉🏽 it’s about what you did with what you know. While most people tend to always ask, “Why,” those celebrities looked at things and said, “Why not?” Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is a classic example to live by. He had no college degree, but the world is a better place because of his contribution to humanity and social justice. —————————————————
I am proud to say that I have officially graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.A. in Journalism and Media Studies. Because my certificate will come in December when I’ll be in New Zealand, I thought I’d share this today.
While working full time, fundraising, and preparing to travel the world, I did the one thing I never thought I’d be able to do - finish college (with a 3.7 GPA). I am so grateful for the people from UMass who came along side me and helped me in this journey.
When you set your mind to something, don’t stop until it’s done. When people tell you you can’t do something, prove them wrong. And if there’s ever a risk worth taking that makes you different from the rest, don’t be afraid to take it. What better way to live life than as an adventure? ✌🏻
It's been a couple months since I started this account and I realized I have yet to tell you all my story. No, not my story about how I got to med school and became a doctor (that's a work in progress, and hopefully not too far away!!) But I want to focus this story on my present. How I even came to be where I am right now...being #premed A lot of you may be thinking well, "what's to tell there?" or "don't you just go to your counselor and tell them, and then you're all set?" Well yes...but that's only a very small part of my journey to here. I started this account with the intention of being AS TRANSPARENT as possible about my journey to becoming a doctor, and as much as I'd love to say that it's been easy and everything has gone according to plan so far. It hasn't. The truth is that success journeys are always messy. Simply because life is always messy. So here's me sharing my failures and not-perfect journey to being premed: 👇
In highschool, I made a lot of mistakes, due to which my academics suffered SIGNIFICANTLY. I had gone from being "the girl most likely to be president," to being "the girl at risk of not getting in to college." By some miracle however, I was able to submit all my requirements and retake any tests that I could, just in the nick of time for my HS graduation. I was even able to apply right before the final rolling admission deadline for a local uni and get accepted! After only a semester of studying however, my parents and I weren't able to keep up with tuition, given that I hadn't been eligible for any scholarships. We couldn't take out any more loans either, so I had to drop out. My depression which was already at its worst in highschool, became even more severe. I was out of school for a year after this, working and paying off the rest my tuition. I didn't think I could ever become a doctor, much less get any kind of education at this point. That's when I came to consider community college. The neg stigma defs worried me, but I was desperate for ANY kind of a 2nd chance. When I got in, it took 2 yrs before I was finally accepted into my current state college's premedical program. So yes, I am late, but I'm NOT yet out of the game 😉

Mind you they didn’t list me as a MEMBER, but only listed me as a MANAGER....When I came back up there with #GeorgiaCode she got mad at me and told me she was “educated” as if I don’t have a #collegedegree and haven’t TAUGHT college courses before because I HAVE, remember —>#ProfessorFive !!! 😂 If I’m wrong tell me I’m wrong...but last I checked...the owner(s) of an #LLC are called “#Members ” and the “#Managers ” are typically appointed as such...to manage! To my overstanding, managers can have a vested interest in the business tho!Thoughts?! Also, does anyone know if you can be both a manager & a member at the same time ?!?! Y’all, I have some SUPER exciting news! .
Obviously growing up and being an adult and having friends is not always easy. You get jobs and things lead you other places. But when you find someone that you can connect with, you do as much as possible to make it work. Most of my close friends (especially girlfriends) and I have been split apart for the last 3 years 😕 we usually alternate driving 2+ hours to see each other for weekend trips that don’t involve much sleep. I love and support them in everything they do but let’s be real, sometimes ya get lonely and just need one of your best friends (thankful I have a few that are close by as well 😘)
But guess what?! My girl @aliciadembeck has just landed a job working for a billion dollar company and will be able to put her hard earned degree toward good use. The best part of that? That billion dollar company happens to be right here in Kalamazoo!!!!! I seriously had a tear come up in my eye when she called to tell me that not only did she get the job, but we would be reunited 😭😭 she will be moving back and let me tell you, my heart is bursting. Girl, I can’t wait to watch you rock at this job! And of course, raise a little hell here in the zoo! 😈
Let's talk about college. College is not a waste of time if you choose your major correctly. When choosing a degree you want to make sure your degree is in high demand. That way you won't be struggling to find a job or struggling to keep your business afloat if your degree allows entrepreneur endeavors after you graduate. Good grades are really important! Internships are really helpful as well. You want to try to land those if you can when in college. If your degree is not in high demand make sure you at least have passion for it, because when you have passion for something 9/10 that means you're really good at it which will increase you're chances of landing a job or having a successful business.
I’ve got to be honest.... I graduated from college with a degree I didn’t think I would actually use. 😬 I went to school for business administration but I was never one to have huge dreams of entrepreneurship so there were days when I wasn’t sure if I was doing the right thing or if all those hours reading about “business strategy” and “marketing” and “business law” were a waste of time 😕 However, I LOVED where I went to college so I probably would’ve pursued any degree just so I could stay there.
In the back of my mind, I knew that God had me getting that degree for a reason and there just might be a day when I would use it. Wellll, guess what? Six years later, the Lord led me to start my own business. I ended up marrying a man with a dream of opening a tea shop one day (something that will take a lot of expertise), and the business I started this year is going to help that dream come true.
Isn’t it funny how we oftentimes end up doing the exact thing we said we would never do? 🙈 I think it’s God’s way of reminding us that He’s in control, not us.
I would love to hear your stories! What’s something that you felt led to do in the past and you had no idea why? Maybe it’s since become clear or maybe you’re still waiting for the answer?! Either way... I promise - it wasn’t a waste of your time. ❤️
Wow I cannot believe it. I actually have a college degree. These past 2 years in college flew by. So many ups, so many downs, but wouldn't have changed a goddamn thing. Time to celebrate 🍻 #collegeguy#collegedegree#sandiego#california
