On Saturday, friends and former Southern Magazine colleagues got together to remember Donovan Webster, a writer/editor/man-about-the-world who committed suicide on July 4th. Don worked with us at Southern Magazine, a startup magazine about the South that some of you may remember. Southern lasted about three years, and then Time, Inc. bought us. Those of us who were there worked our butts off, had a big time, and were bonded with this experience. Don was a valued part of Southern and went on to a solid career working with Whittle Communications, Outside Magazine, National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, and the New York Times Magazine, among others. Don was a great outdoorsman and fly fisherman. No saint. He had his ups and downs, a total man with light and shadows that haunted him. This is the way of all women and men, of course. But to add to the usual vicissitudes of life, Don had incredible tragedy in his last years, the final one being the taking of his own life. And we, his former colleagues and friends, came together in this beautiful evening to celebrate Don's life. Scott Caroll, a dear friend of Don’s and ours, put our tribute table together with wonderful photos of Don, books of his as well as other writers who meant something to Don, and mementoes from the natural World that connected with Don’s spirit. With good food and lots of delicious wine, we raised our glasses to Don in his good memory. Stories were told. Love and laughter were shared. Don left this world too soon. We love you, Don. You will always be in our hearts.🎈❤️🙏🏻❤️🎈#DonovanWebster#SouthernMagazine#OutsideMagazine#writer#editor#arkansas#cometogether#suicide#love#friends#colleagues#thesouth#loss @dryforkcreek #writer#editor
Ha ha, she’ll probably kill me for posting this... but this wonderful woman (with hands for Ewok ears?? 🤷🏼♀️) recently hit her 6 month mark with Niche and what an amazing six months it’s been!!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve picked up some great work with new and existing clients, we’ve reworked internal systems and our young staff are learning more and more each day! Thanks for joining us Celia - can’t wait to see what the future brings!! #lovemyniche ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
