These teak steps/storage came back last week for some design adjustments...they were a little unstable! Oops, but you live and learn. The second picture shows some steel pins which we’ve fitted so the steps lock into place when at full extension - it works really well. We also painted the name black which is also a major improvement. It’s now boxed up and ready to head out to join Areti in Antibes 😎
The haptic perception challenge: Can you find the matching pairs of blocks using only your sense of touch?
As our lives become increasingly mediated through screens and virtual environments, haptic interaction and perception is greatly diminished and overlooked. I created this game as a research device on how we recognise (or fail to) materials, shapes, details and how we verbally describe properties using only our sense of touch. Also, as a reminder of the need to reinvigorate this neglected sense in our everyday lives and interactions with surfaces and objects.

I still consider myself a novice machinist, but I think I know how to get the job done pretty well. These @miteebite toe clamps sure came in handy for this oversized piece of material. Op 1 will be to counterbore bolt holes to fixture my material internally so that I can profile the outside of my part without hitting the toe clamps. The vase acts as a weighty host for stems of various lengths and contours. The diameter on the inside becomes smaller with steps in order to support stems down to ø2 mm. Made from solid aluminium with a removable 3d printed PLA insert.
