All you need to start a fashion venture - a bit of paper, some pencils and a tapemeasure.
And an idea.
I’m doing just that - starting a fashion brand. An activewear brand Susimust.
And I want to take you along for the journey🤗 .
Getting a hair stylist to redo your hair $60, Gucci bag $800, LV Shoes $1,200, getting wet while on vacation trip due to climate change #PRICELESS . For everything else, there's MasterCard. 👘 👗 👜 👢 ️👔 👕 👖 🎒 👙 👛 👠
Background: as a billion dollar industry and the 2nd most polluting business after oil, #fashion has a direct impact on the environment.
In numbers: the processing of #rawmaterials required for textiles and the vast amounts of water used (2,700 litres per single t-shirt) contributes to #greenhousegasemissions which are causing #climatechange .
#Capitalism : CEO's running big corporations see their job as maximising profits in the short term, even if that means causing irreparable damage to the world’s ecosystem.
WHAT IS AT STAKE?
Economic impact: fashion -- and #fastfashion -- has a cost to the planet and also to people, since water is essential to human life. Apart from the externalities caused, there is no #globalbenchmark that busineses can adhere to.
Social impact: there is a #socialcost related to sharing essentials such as water with the fashion industry. In addition, “fast fashion” has led to poor #workingconditions in global factories.
Environmental impact: Climate change is instigated by #globalwarming -- thus the rising of sea levels. Moreover, #clothingproduction involves the use of scarce resources and chemical #dyes , finishes and coatings – some of which end up in the #ocean despite being toxic. The raw materials used to manufacture clothes require land and water, or extraction of #fossilfuels . #Carbondioxide is emitted throughout the clothing #supplychain .
WHAT CAN WE DO? ✅ pay attention to labels; ✅ avoid following trends; ✅ go for organic basics.
#Sustainability is all about futureproofing the world around, i.e., protecting the #environment for the next generation. By choosing brands that are comitted to a more conscious and ethical approach to their own production and #supplychain , we can help to take the future into our own hands. 🌍 🌎 🌏
