Received my beautiful Mala and bracelet from my beautiful friend today. Just what I needed. Getting back to meditation practice is just as important as my workouts and eating healthy.🙏🙏🙏
Mind and body are so interconnected but often times we prioritize the one over the other. Keeping my balance in both these areas will help me to be a more present mom, partner, therapist and friend. ⚖️⚖️⚖️
I have been wearing this all night and maybe it’s just in my head but I feel more grounded. And really even if it is in my head-the feeling is what is important. 🧘🏼♀️🧘🏼♀️🧘🏼♀️
I also just got my new book Aware from Dr. Dan Siegel in the mail the other day. I am so excited to read up on all the research behind mindfulness- to me it helps link my logically and research brain to my and others experiences of the power of mindfulness. 🧠🧠🧠 @drdansiegel .

Your story has many blank pages. You can write on them with your life. When you get right down to it, intentional living is about living your best story. Indifferent people will not live a life that matters. Passive people take themselves out of the greatest of all stories - their own. Maybe they want to see themselves in the story, but they exist as observers on the sidelines. They wish for more, but they fail to become active participants.
People will ask me for advice about how to get started nutritionally. I tell them to start tracking and understand why it's important to change. Many people would love to start losing weight, feeling better and refreshed, and proud, but they never do. Why? They’re afraid to start.
No one stumbles upon significance. We have to be intentional about making our lives matter. That calls for purpose and action - and not excuses. Most people don’t know this, but it’s easier to go from failure to success than from excuses to success.
I could have easily identified excuses to explain my neglected health or initial poor performance as a college student. Valid reasons or not to explain my habits, nothing would have changed in the long run if I didn't change my story and purpose, and simply start. I had to overcome my reasons not to study or live better.
To have a life that matters, you have to start. Start with yourself. Your best story begins when you put yourself back into it. Stop looking - dive in!
#TestimonyTuesday Ask the Lord and you shall receive! I have been with the City of Alexandria for 5 1/2 years. I had the honor of being the Program Manager for Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) Developmental Disabilities Vocational Services. The Clients in my program are a range between Down Syndrome, Autism, Aspergers, Blind and Deaf! My position in this program has been very rewarding and truly meaningful. However, early today in my staff meeting, I shared with my staff and Director, that I will be leaving the City of Alexandria to pursue my dream career as a Psychotherapist with Prince William County Government. I had two interviews for different programs on 8/28/18 and 9/5/18 for Psychotherapists positions. Afterwards, I doubted myself, I wondered if I said too much, if I said too little and honestly, I lost my confidence, which isn’t me. I then prayed to God and said, Lord, I claim this and I receive this. Well on 9/6/18, while picking Karter up from school, I received a call from the program Clinical Psychologist and she told me the interview panel was impressed by me and I was the top candidate for both positions and they wanted to offer me whichever program I decided! 🙌🏾🙏🏾 I was in shock and disbelief and said OMG, then I became emotional and started crying. God is Good! I will never doubt myself again! I knew I had the education and the qualifications for the position, however, for a brief moment the devil was working against me, but God had me all along! I have had so many great experiences with my staff and clients in Alexandria, but now it’s off to Prince William County Government on 10/1/18, to provide Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy to clients with Serious Mental Illness and Co-Occurring Disorders. Karter told me he was proud of me and I must say, I’m proud of me also...everything I do, I do for him to have the best life possible! Thank you FAB @tiffany.p__ sissy pooh @uluvashes and my Clinical Supervisor/Mentor/CPI Training Partner @blkunicornlove for always believing in me, when at times I didn’t believe in myself! #NewJob#Blessed 🙌🏾🙏🏾😘#KartersMommy#Psychotherapist#Clinician#MentalHealth#BlackGirlMagic 🎉📝
Some more health care hacks this week, keeping it short and simple, yet extremely impacting when we implement them in our daily routines
Leave 10 minutes to breathe between appointments. How can you expect to perform at your best throughout the entirety of the day if you don't take a moment to recover? Just like with building muscle, we have to include rest in order to grow!
Keep appointments with yourself. When was the last time you checked in with YOU with where YOU are at? Sometimes taking the time to reflect on YOUR day (even for 10 minutes...!) can make a huge impact.
When did you last smile? Are you going throughout your days without smiling? Smiling is scientifically proven to lift your mood as it promotes the feel good receptors in our brains to fire up! Lets lift the mood of ourselves and those around us.
Our occupational therapists are a happy, dedicated bunch who spend their days working to make a difference in the community. So, how would you like to join them? We have a great vacancy for an 'OT' and if that's you then visit the careers section at www.bchs.com.au and start the next chapter in your working life. You will get to use modern equipment, meet some wonderful people and we're sure you won't regret it!
Oh, by the way, we're also looking for a welfare worker, family worker, community health nurse, forensic mental health clinical leader and physiotherapist.
Learn more about us at www.bchs.com.au
Finished my first day preceptoring. It was cool interacting with a different set of patients. I was able to draw up injectables today and give people shots. Can’t wait to start helping with IVs later this week 😎
Hey introverts! If you're thinking about using strategic networking to grow referrals into your practice, now is the perfect time to learn how. Enrolment for the September 26/27 session start date is open NOW ( PS be quick because enrolments close Sep 20th unless sold out prior) Sign up by heading to the Jo Muirhead Website!
It’s the 2018 Emmy Awards today. As a teenager, I used to watch the red carpet coverage and compare myself to the glamorous celebrities, with their flawless skin, perfect hair, slender figures and expensive dresses. I wanted to be admired and seen as worthy, like they were. I believed that they must be incredibly happy and that their lives would be free from suffering. It seemed that ‘beautiful’ was the best thing a woman could be, and I fantasised about being included amongst what I believed to be these elite human beings.
Now that I’m older, I try not to follow the awards. I know that beauty does not equal happiness or freedom from suffering, and I imagine that celebrities must feel significant pressure on days such as this, knowing that they will be scrutinised by so many eyes. It’s an industry where disordered eating is probably the norm rather than the exception, and I’m sure that must be very difficult emotionally. +++
Still, it’d be great if other industries or achievements were afforded the same glamour and attention. Imagine a red carpet awards ceremony to celebrate acts of compassion! Or tenacity in the face of significant life stressors. Or a Mental Health Workers Gala! Or imagine if the wealth that circulates at these events was invested in public services like hospitals and homeless shelters! What a gift that would be... +++
Anyway, enjoy the Emmys but don’t compare. You are good, you are worthy, the world needs you no matter what you look like, what you do for a living or how much you earn. Do what you can to get by and to improve the lives of those around you. There’s no awards for it, but it’s meaningful nonetheless!
If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t walk run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but by all means keep moving.
CROSSING OVER to New beginnings can be both tough and exhilarating.
But I’m here for it!! I declared this year to be a radical year and God has delivered immensely!
Cheers to new beginnings!
:: MENTAL HEALTH MONDAYS :: ▫️◾▫️AnXiEtY▫️◾▫️
Anxiety is a serious health condition that not only affects a person's potential happiness, but can have detrimental effects on your body- specifically the stress response system. .
In Generalized Anxiety Disorder, there is a dysregulation of the way that the body responds to stress that causes cortisol to continue to circulate which can kill nerve cells and shrink the hippocampus (long-term memory & emotion regulation).
There are many ways to help combat anxiety whether you are at the lower end or high end of the spectrum… .
〰️ One way is mindfulness meditation to help re-regulate your SAM and HPA axes (@sbtbreathe has a GREAT and FREE app to get you started) .
〰️ Seeking therapy can help you target the root cause and give you tools to combat your anxiety and get you to a level of Eustress.
〰️ Eliminating negativity out of your life in the form of people, things, etc... .
Many of us are praying for a breakthrough and we may need to be praying for a spiritual awakening to show us how to use the things we have in our grasp to get us the things we desire in our future. Sometimes your breakthrough is simply a change in perspective and an awakening in your life that changes how you view, value and approach things. Instead of focusing on the “bad things” we have experienced. Let’s focus on the things that didn’t take us out, things that didn’t end our lives. Things that were built to stop us but didn’t. Happy Monday and I pray your spirit is awakened today !!! #bazemore#lifecoach#healthylifestyle#motivationalspeaker#clinician#affirmations#awakening#awakethesoul#growth#mindset
Well hi 👋 there! Let me introduce myself 😃
Some of you know what I do but I’ve noticed many aren’t quite sure. I’ve been asked for meal plans as patients thought I was a “nutritionist” - I offer clinical nutrition, it’s somewhat deeper and much more complicated.
I’m a board certified functional med practitioner, offering hormone balancing via bioidentical hormones. Specializing in women’s and men’s hormone imbalances.
I’m also a medical cannabinoid therapist which means I offer medical recommendations and a script for medical issues when warranted but can also guide on the specifics of CBD and if it’s right for you. I offer Genetic testing for your specific DNA in regards to your endocannabinoid system - this gives you the edge as a patient knowing what will work for specific conditions based on your unique DNA
As a thyroid and autoimmune specialist I have made sure to offer the best I’m up to date treatment plans - this includes LDN therapy (for Crohn’s, fibro, Hashimotos and so much more)
Of course don’t forget gut health, heavy metals, mast cell and histamine issues, parasitic infections and Lyme disease. Having trained in each of these areas individually I am able to combine them in ways they were meant to be rather than treating each separately (which doesn’t work). Remember all things are connected.
I also offer functional genetics, not this ancestry fluff but rather the real deal stuff. What to watch out for, what risks you are higher in and what lifestyle factors we can use to avoid them (Alzheimer’s, diabetes, hormone imbalances and even digestion)

🌼🍄 MAGICAL DAY 🍄🌼 Ooooo that beautiful Spring breeze came at a perfect time.
I had an amazing weekend working in my clinic offering skin rejuvenation and mind-body energy balance treatments.
Even I’m feeling like I’m walking on cloud 9.
Who loves watching their clothes dry?
People who have a balance perception on life and quirky people like me! 🙃
* Authority -vs- Application •
I’m a lifelong learner, and hope to always be adapting, improving, and optimizing for myself and my family. It sounds cheesy, but I’d be super depressed to feel like I’d peaked in knowledge or understanding at some point and it were all down hill from there. ..
Admittedly I haven’t followed a direct track to where I am now (from a vo-tec school for auto mechanics, to having some respected credentials after my name with a reasonable amount of nationally sanctioned authority in matters of health). Throughout the process I constantly felt like an imposter in school and at work (many days I still do). I would always hope that by gaining another level in the game, I’d be an “expert” at some point. ..
But a mentor told me something recently that has stuck. ..
“Authority means nothing”
I bucked at this idea. For a while.
But now I see this as he meant it, & from a less emotional position. Regardless of the weight or type of credentials you have behind your name- if you’re unable to express knowledge to people in a way they can receive, understand, and apply it- you’re powerless to help them. ..
On the other hand, for someone who’s able to cut directly to the center of a problem understanding higher needs while creating a solution that’s both accurate and fulfilling but simple enough to be understood and applied - that person can create broad effective changes in a positive direction. ..
Now I’m obsessed about this new insight.
It has begun to color the way I look at the world differently. The impact I’m able to have on my family, my community, and how I view my own success, is only as good as my capacity to create solutions that are APPLICABLE, regardless of the authority I may think I have. ..
While the ability to understand the needs of a person, a family, or a community may correlate with authority in many ways, there’s still a need to assess problems from a position of empathy and with an independent scientific perspective to create meaningful change. ..

The greatest handicap a person has is not realizing his/her potential. What dreams do you have that are just waiting to be fulfilled? What gifts and talents are inside you that are dying to be drawn out and developed? The gap between your vision and your present reality can only be filled through a commitment to maximize your potential.
I’ve often wondered what would have happened had I never decided to change my health habits, especially from Andrea's point of view. How would she had continued to view me? Would it have changed? I wonder because I know that her companionship and partnership in my personal growth journey has made all the difference. By working together to improve myself, and ultimately ourselves, we've created a growth environment that helped us to broaden our horizons and live a life that we never could have imagined when we first got married. As a result, we plan to continue that environment as we raise our children.
I’ve been told that certain species of fish will grow according to the size of their environment. Put them in a tiny aquarium, and they remain small even at adulthood. Release them into a huge natural body of water, and they grow to their intended size. People are similar. If they live in a harsh and limiting environment, they stay small, but put them someplace that encourages growth, and they will expand to reach their potential.
The people you spend the most time with greatly impact your outlook and direction. If your closest associates are hungry to grow and trying to reach their potential, it will rub off on you. If they have no interest in growing, they will influence you in that direction. If your list of people doesn’t include others striving to reach their potential, then you need to change your environment and find like-minded people with whom to associate.
