Increasingly unpredictable weather patterns caused by climate change, pose a serious threat to coffee production in Africa. Total coffee production in Africa is expected to drop by a million bags due to unpredictable weather conditions, pests and diseases.
It is important that African markets are working with coffee farmers to find a solution to find a long-term solution to this dilemma!

Because hurricanes are fueled by energy from the oceans, higher sea surface temperatures due to global warming are increasing the severity of storms. Islands and coastal areas, like the #Caribbean , are particularly vulnerable to the destructive effects of hurricanes. Take necessary precautions this #hurricaneseason ⠀

It is dawning on us that we live in a distortion field. Our communications are managed by big institutions who must convey the current apocalypse as a profit center. Our premature mass death can only be carried by the media as blockbuster fiction, as scandal or as human interest story. Protest against these profit centers, which might result in actual survival, is criminalized. These institutions are programmed to over-ride any threats to their income stream.
There is a mysterious war playing out. All of life, humans animals, plants, and bacteria feel the induced gravity of the market. It tilts us slightly all the time, like a wind. The market has elements in its make-up like nations, large-scale fear, millions of men in suits. On the other side of the war is something much larger and silent, but which erupts in fantastic power, like the ocean rising over Miami.
Anything around us, anything inside of us, can be sent into the distance at any moment. All objects on roads and counters, all dreams and small bursts of imagination, are subject to removal by their sale into the unseeable distance. In this way, the economy makes human relationships a radical alternative. I love this woman who walks towards me. She suggests by her eyes an erotic establishment of something beyond the economy of disappearance. . "Climate Changed Blues", Zurich, Theater Spektakle Festival, August 16th 2018

Very smoky day in Vancouver. Grateful we’re only dealing with smoke, not fire, but I can feel this in my chest today. Going to be a rough few days for those with respiratory problems. #yvrsummer#climatechange
Our farm this morning. The sun is glowing red. Again. 0ver 560 fires are burning in our beautiful province. #britishcolumbia Smoke has filled the sky for days. I can’t help but think.. and worry. Our climate is changed. As farmers we noticed. It’s not like it used to be here... What about our children, and grandchildren?! They will inherit this next. #thismess .
Not everyone believes in climate change. I know that. Believe what you want. But when you work so closely with the seasons, alongside whatever Mother Nature throws at you, how can you not? #earthiswhatweallhaveincommon#climatechange
Some photos from the R/V William Kennedy, a research vessel jointly operated by @umanitoba, the Churchill Marine Observatory and the Arctic Research Foundation. The William Kennedy is currently at sea near Southampton Island, #Nunavut where a group of scientists are conducting research on the marine ecosystem there. A hotspot for marine mammals, the region is important from an ecological perspective as well as a cultural one, as it is believed the area has been inhabited dating back millennia. As the climate rapidly warms, what will the impacts be? Stay tuned to hear from the scientists on board, who are currently waiting out a storm at sea. Coral reefs aren’t the only underwater structures being destroyed by climate change–precious shipwrecks and archeological sites are facing severe damage. Storm surges and violent weather patterns pose an immediate threat to underwater archeological sites. Hurricanes blowing over these sites and shipwrecks can splinter them into oblivion, or at least batter and damage the already fragile artifacts. Oceans are absorbing more carbon dioxide, becoming hotter and more acidic, which is a big problem when you’re trying to preserve something. These chemical changes are likely to erode cement-like coatings on historic wrecks. The hotter temperatures get and the more acidic oceans become, the faster things will deteriorate. The @smithsonian has referred to ocean acidification as “climate change’s equally evil twin.” This means that climate change not only poses a threat to our future, but also our history.

Caption: Panama, Kuna Yala, July 2011, Norberto Hernandez (52) and his wife Olga have been exiled to the island Sucunguadup, which they heightened themselves using coral. They live on the island with their nine grandchildren and child. They have three children of which one lives with them. Kuna Yala (San Blas) consists of a long narrow strip of land and an archipelago of 365 islands, of which 36 are inhabited. Due to the rising of the sea level the Kuna's have to evacuate to the mainland; the islands are to dangerous to live on.
I first contacted artist Shepard Fairey about a potential collaboration with @harpersbazaarus back in December 2017 and I’m thrilled to finally share the protest signs he created exclusively for our September issue. Click link in bio to read the story. And please pick up the print edition of the issue to read renowned journalist and activist @officialnaomiklein’s thoughtful essay on the need for collaboration within different social movement (not to mention, a fundamental shift in values). “Too many of us still careen from one crisis to the next, as if we’re trapped in Donald Trump’s twitter feed,” she says. “One minute all eyes are on the Dreamers, the hundreds of thousands of young, undocumented immigrants who could be deported to countries they have never known...the next moment, the Dreamers—their courage and their crisis—all but disappear from the news as the spotlight shines on the amazing Parkland teens, who managed to channel their grief after surviving a mass shooting into a national movement demanding gun control....But to turn the tide of history, all of these movements will need to come together, strengthen what unites us, and work toward becoming a society in which every person is valued equally. It’s an inter generational struggle, and it will never go out of style.” #shepardfairey#naomiklein#harpersbazaar#timesupforeverything

NO, NO, NO, this shit was bad then, like a bad dream becoming reality. The #clothingindustries are the second leading cause of #climatechange which is why people are upcycling and buying used clothes. Bringing back bad fashion to encourage needless buying is harmful to all. Do no harm 💚✊
Fire on smoke. ...
Everything is extra dry & ashy & tired this August. At night, through closed windows, we hear owls crying a strange call. At dawn, wildfire smoke blots out all but a few eerie moments of sunrise on what would otherwise be a sparkling blue summer day. Then, a dense, heavy gray settles in, casting strange orange shadows. I carry that sense of “it’s going to rain,” knowing it won’t. Rather, we shut ourselves into a hot house & pray the winds will shift & our skies & chests will clear. ...
