PARIS, 1876. Cimetière de Montparnasse, 13th division:
Emil Cioran, with his partner Simone Boué. "Un livre est un suicide différé."
[from "De l’inconvénient d’être né" (1973), Idées/Gallimard, p. 118]
Ph Daniele Cenci, 18/08/2018.
PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
Emil Cioran (8 April 1911 – 20 June 1995) was a Romanian philosopher  and essayist, who published works in both Romanian and French. His work has been noted for its pervasive  philosophical pessimism, and frequently engages with issues of suffering, decay, and nihilism. Among his best-known works are "On the Heights of Despair" (1934) and "The Trouble with Being Born" (1973). The Latin Quarter of Paris was his permanent residence and he lived much of his life in isolation with his partner Simone Boué (1919-1997).

(from "Rhinocéros", Acte III).
Ph Daniele Cenci, 18/08/2018.
PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
Eugène Ionesco (born Eugen Ionescu, 26 November 1909 – 28 March 1994) was a Romanian-French playwright and one of the foremost figures of the French Avant-garde theatre. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, Ionesco's plays depict the solitude and insignificance of human existence in a tangible way.
These absurdist sketches express modern feelings of alienation and the impossibility and futility of communication with surreal comic force, parodying the conformism of the bourgeoisie and conventional theatrical forms. In them Ionesco rejects a conventional story-line as their basis, instead taking their dramatic structure from accelerating rhythms and/or cyclical repetitions. He disregards psychology and coherent dialogue, thereby depicting a dehumanized world with mechanical, puppet-like characters who speak in non-sequiturs. Language becomes rarefied, with words and material objects gaining a life of their own, overwhelming the characters and creating a sense of menace. In "Rhinocéros" he watches his friends turning into rhinoceroses one by one until he alone stands unchanged against this mass movement. It is in this play that Ionesco most forcefully expresses his horror of ideological conformism, inspired by the rise of the fascist Iron Guard in Romaniain the 1930s.

From "Le nain" in "Gaspard de la Nuit"
Ph Daniele Cenci, 18/08/2018.
PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
Louis Jacques Napoléon Bertrand, better known by his pen name Aloysius Bertrand (20 April 1807 — 29 April 1841), was a French Romantic poet, playwright and journalist. He is famous for having introduced prose poetry in French literature, and is considered a forerunner of the Symbolist  movement. His masterpiece is the collection of prose poems "Gaspard de la Nuit" published posthumously in 1842; three of its poems were adapted to a homonymous piano suite by Maurice Ravel in 1908.

PARIS, 1873. Cimetière de Montparnasse, 9th division: Jean-Bertrand Pontalis, "L'Amour des commencements" (Love of the Beginnings).
Ph Daniele Cenci, 18/08/2018.
PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
Jean-Bertrand Pontalis [Jibé] (15 January 1924 – 15 January 2013) was a French philosopher, writer, editor and psychoanalyst. A student of Jean-Paul Sartre, Pontalis became a professor of philosophy in the forties, before undergoing an analysis with his associate Jacques Lacan the following decade. He was, however, one of the minority group of disciples/analysands who did not follow Lacan into the École Freudienne de Paris, but rather stayed within the legitimist sphere as founding members of the Association Psychanalytique de France, of which he later became president. Together with Jean Laplanche, he wrote the influential work "The Language of Psychoanalysis" (1967); while among his later, more literary writings were "Windows" and "Crossing the Shadows". His 1993 autobiography, "Love of Beginnings", was deliberately ahistorical, emphasising what he called "holes" in discourse, where the process of slipping through or evading set formats and ways of thinking opened up new beginnings:"When words fail, it is because, without realising it, one is about to touch a different earth".

PARIS, 1870-1872. Cimetière de Montparnasse: a) César Vallejo, 12th division; b) Augustín Cárdenas;

PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
a) On the grave, his verses: "Hoy no ha venido nadie a / preguntar; ni me han / pedito en esta tarde nada".
b) Agustín Cárdenas Alfonso (April 10, 1927, Matanzas, Cuba – February 9, 2001, Havana, Cuba) was a Cuban  sculptor who was active in the Surrealist movement in Paris.
His sculpture was influenced by Brâncuși, Henry Moore, and Jean Arp. Poet André Breton said of his artistic hand that it was "efficient as a dragonfly."

PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.
Yves Robert (19 June 1920 – 10 May 2002) was a French actor, screenwriter, director, and producer.
Yves Robert's directorial efforts included several successful comedies for which he had written the screenplay. His 1962 film "La Guerre des boutons" won France's Prix Jean Vigo. His 1972 film "Le grand blond avec une chaussure noire" won the Silver Bear at the 23rd Berlin International Film Festival in 1973. In 1976, "Un éléphant ça trompe énormément", starring his wife, earned him international acclaim. Robert's 1973 devastating comedy "Salut l'artiste" is considered by many performers to be the ultimate film about the humiliations of the actor's life. In 1977, he directed the comedy "Nous irons tous au paradis".
In 1990, Robert directed two dramatic films, My Mother's Castle (Le château de ma mère) and My Father's Glory (La Gloire de mon Père). He directed more than twenty feature-length motion pictures, wrote an equal number of scripts, and acted in more than seventy-five films. Although his last major role was perhaps in 1980, A Bad Son by Claude Sautet, as the working-class father of a drug-dealer, he continued acting past 1997.
Robert played opposite Danièle Delorme in the 1951 play Colombe (Dove) by Jean Anouilh. They married in 1956, and jointly formed the film production company La Guéville in 1961. He died in Paris from a cerebral hemorrhage.

PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11.

PARIS, 1845. Cimetière de Montparnasse, 8th division: Tristan Tzara.
Ph Daniele Cenci, 18/08/2018.
PASSEGGIATE INTERNAZIONALI 11. Tristan Tzara (born Samuel or Samy Rosenstock; 16 April [O.S. 4 April] 1896 – 25 December 1963) was a Romanian and French avant-garde poet, essayist and performance artist. Also active as a journalist, playwright, literary and art critic, composer and film director, he was known best for being one of the founders and central figures of the anti-establishment Dada  movement. During World War I, he went to Switzerland. There, Tzara's shows at the Cabaret Voltaire, as well as his poetry and art manifestos, became a main feature of early Dadaism. His work represented Dada's nihilistic side, in contrast with the more moderate approach favored by Hugo Ball.

Allons donc !

Allons donc ! #cimiteri_monumentali_  #entropy_to_epitaphs  #project_necropolis  #gallery_of_dark_arts  #cemetery_shots  #click_gravestone  #cemeterylovers  #graveyard_life  #gravestone  #cemeteryart  #historyofart  #parisjetaime  #visitparis  #igersparis  #igersfrance  #doucefrance  #travelgram  #paris 🗼 #francia  #france 🇫🇷 #vivreparis  #topparisphoto  #thisisparis  #igparisiloveyou  #secretsdeparis  #unlimitedparis  #paris_vacations  #paris_focus_on

d-e) Raymond Claude Ferdinand Aron(14 March 1905 – 17 October 1983) was a French philosopher,  sociologist, political scientist, and journalist. He is best known for his 1955 book The Opium of the Intellectuals, the title of which inverts Karl Marx's claim that religion was the opium of the people – Aron argues that in post-war France, Marxism was the opium of the intellectuals. In the book, Aron chastised French intellectuals for what he described as their harsh criticism of capitalism and  democracy and their simultaneous defense of Marxist oppression, atrocities, and intolerance. Critic Roger Kimball suggests that Opium is "a seminal book of the twentieth century." Aron is also known for his lifelong friendship, sometimes fractious, with philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre.
f) The wife of Henri Philippe Benoni Omer Joseph Pétain (24 April 1856 – 23 July 1951), known as Maréchal Pétain or Le Vieux Maréchal. Her husband was a French general officer who attained the position of Marshal of France at the end of World War I, during which he became known as 'The Lion of Verdun', and in World War II served as the Chief of State of Vichy France from 1940 to 1944. Pétain, who was 84 years old in 1940, ranks as France's oldest head of state. After the war, Pétain was tried and convicted for treason. Today he is widely regarded as a Nazi collaborator.
