Eating healthy at KBBQ? No problem! Earlier today I did a killer circuit workout that literally made me out of breath. Then for dinner went out to eat KBBQ with the grandparents! I had bibimbap, which is rice and vegetables (I had brown rice on the side) with beef. Also had some kimchi which is great for gut health!
So I had my first dentist appointment in 4 years the other day (*GASP*).
I know! Terrible! And I will admit I haven’t been looking after my teeth as well as I could have been...
Long story short, I had a cavity that they fixed for me, and it scared me half to death! I am only 22!
I am now terrified of sugar, and embracing it! So this is what my work lunches look like these days, instead of foodcourt/fast food or something easy to grab and processed.
I still LOVE food and crave snacks ALL DAY! But I make popcorn, or eat a vegetable, piece of fruit, or some nuts, and that seems to satisfy me (I was 100% sure I would crave sugar!). Turns out I wasn’t listening to my body! And now it’s given me a good ole scare and, now, I am listening. 👌🏼🍎
Sunday Breakfast done right 🤤- -
@laurensimpson you have created a winner with this one! #lsfbabes if you haven’t tried the Egg Bruschetta with tomatoes yet you have to. I added a couple of sneaky mushrooms 😍
Getting “back on track” after vacation has been hard. Being body positive has also been hard, especially because it’s summer. We’re taught and socialized that are bodies are never quite enough. Well fuck that. Eat what sounds good to you and what makes your body feel good. I promise it will be okay. ✨🙌🏻💕
👋 Hello to few new followers. I thought I’d better reintroduce myself for those who haven’t been following me for a while. I’m Lani. A Mum of 2, military wife, preschool teacher / currently full time SAHM, who is passionate about the role food and exercise can play on our health both mentally and physically. You won’t see fancy curated posts on my feed - I’m a HUGE fan of IG stories and mostly post there as it slots in easily throughout my day.
Our family eats gluten free, dairy free, preservative free, legume free, refined sugar free, whole foods. We limit grains (none before 2yr old), and would call ourselves “plant based” rather than vegan as we do consumer honey, as well as some eggs and salmon occasionally.
I hope we can connect - as that’s what I like best about IG - and maybe you might find some inspiration from what I share 💖😚 Ps. These little bites are tasty and kid approved.
1 cup organic Turkish apricots
1.5 cups preservative free shredded coconut
1 tbsp hemp seeds

If I wrote you a love letter, would you right back?
Gimme the girl that's beautiful,
Without a trace of makeup on,
Barefoot in the kitchen,
Singing her favorite song.
Dancing around like a fool,
Starring in her own little show,
Gimme the girl that the rest of the world,
Ain't lucky enough to know. -Joe Nichols 👸🏽
Tonight’s dinner was absolutely delicious even if it did warm our house up way too much for July in Alabama. Cooking a whole roast chicken is one of my favorite things. I normally make one with fresh herbs, but decided to mix things up this weekend.
I used a 3lb chicken patted dry and placed in a roasting pan.
Mix together this spice mix:
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp cayenne
1 tbsp fine sea salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp paprika (sweet)
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
Fill the cavity (after removal of giblets) with: half a lemon cut into wedges, 4 cloves of garlic, and half of an onion cut into wedges.
Use 1/4 of the spice mix to rub under the skin if you can to add extra flavor the the breast of the chicken.
Spread the rest of the mix all over the chicken.
Place the chicken in a preheated 450 degree F oven for about one hour or until the internal temp is 165. Let rest 10 minutes.
It’s the weekend! Do it right with this Low Carb Mint Chip Protein Shake complete with the gut healing power of Bone Broth Protein Powder.
Servings: Makes 1 large shake (best as a meal replacement or divided in half as a snack or dessert)
-1 ripe Hass avocado (or similar), skin and pit removed
-2 tablespoons @weareorganisource Bone Broth Protein Powder
-1 cup unsweetened dairy-free milk (Almond or Coconut Preferred)
-1/3 cup heavy cream
-1/2 cup ice
-1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
-6 drops peppermint oil or 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract (use more or less, to taste)
-Stevia (or other preferred sweetener), to taste
-1/2oz dark chocolate (at least 85%), finely chopped OR 2 tablespoons raw cacao nibs
1. Combine the avocado, Bone Broth protein, dairy-free milk, heavy cream ice, salt, and peppermint in a blender, and puree until very smooth.
2. Stir in stevia a bit at a time until you find your desired sweetness level. Pour into a tall glass and top with chopped chocolate.
3. Serve with a big straw and enjoy immediately.

Happy Gloomy Saturday 🌧! I don’t know about you guys, but as much as I love the warm, sunny weather is as much as I love a rainy day as an excuse to just lounge around at home 🙂. I was in the mood for something comforting for dinner tonight. I know you see pasta at first site, but swipe 👉🏻! It’s actually corn🌾 and quinoa flour! Waaaay more nutritious than regular pasta and if you’re going to eat a pasta dish, you might as well reap some benefits besides a bloated stomach for the rest of the night. I will do an informational post on quinoa during the week, but for now, enjoy this “unofficial” recipe I put together:
1. Boil water
2. Once boiled, add “pasta”...but in the meantime, sauté zucchini, onion, garlic, basil, salt and pepper in avocado oil (olive oil works too)
3. Drain pasta once cooked and add zucchini mixture
4. Stir in ricotta and sprinkle some Pecorino Romano
Sorry I don’t have exact measurements, I just eyeballed everything. It’s so easy I think you could too 😉. Have a good night! 🌙
