Cox Media Group (CMG) Tulsa capitalized on the power of its integrated brands to pour more than $1.9 million into Green Country through six highly-visible community partnerships in the fourth quarter of 2018 alone. 103.3 The Eagle hosted a radiothon on October 26th to benefit the Oklahoma Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). The Eagle also served as the media sponsor for the 2018 DAV 5K on November 3rd. These events raised $88,000 for the Oklahoma DAV.
After the release of their first single (1967, see my post of September 13), Peter Green and his band Fleetwood Mac came up with their debut album early 1968. Supported by a single - a cover of Elmore James' Shake Your Moneymaker - the album was an immediate hit, topping at number 4 in the UK (eventually selling more than 1 million copies in the UK alone). The release was a solid and well played mix of blues covers (Elmore James, Robert Johnson - see my post of March 29, Howlin' Wolf a.o.) and originals by Green and guitarist Jeremy Spencer. The latter was a special attraction at live performances, because of his hilarious impersonations of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, John Mayall a.o. One of the greatest songs of all time by one of the greatest bands of all time. I honestly don’t remember a time before loving Heart, they’ve been a part of my life since I was 6 years old, and Ann and Nancy have been inspiring me ever since I first listened to them. Heart is one of the great musical loves of my life and always will be 🖤 #heart#crazyonyou
"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" was developed from "Voodoo Chile", a lengthy studio jam featuring Steve Winwood on organ and Jack Casady on bass that was recorded May 2, 1968. The following day, Hendrix returned to the studio with Redding and Mitchell to film a short documentary for ABC television.
Noel Redding explained: "We learned that song in the studio... They had the cameras rolling on us as we played it". Hendrix added: "Someone was filming when we started doing Voodoo Child. We did that about three times because they wanted to film us in the studio, to make us - 'Make it look like you're recording, boys' - one of them scenes, you know, so, 'OK, let's play this in E, a-one, a-two, a-three', and then we went into Voodoo Child". The band recorded eight takes of the song, eventually choosing the final one as the master, which would appear on the "Electric Ladyland" album.
