"I responded to an ad in the @OttawaCitizen in October 1999 for a research analyst for the Registered #Nurses Database at @CIHI_ICIS.
◽️
My first day of work was #November 9, 1999. I still have the ad! It’ll be 19 years this autumn.
◽️
CIHI offers many opportunities for career growth and personal development. But most of all, I see the value in CIHI’s efforts to improve the quality and availability of health information.
◽️
Good data is the foundation of informed decision-making, whether at the bedside, within a region or in response to a pan-Canadian epidemic. Playing a small part in better decision-making has kept me at CIHI for almost 20 years.
◽️
Knowing that our data and information help shape health care policies and decisions — and not just at regional or provincial/territorial levels — is the most rewarding part of my work.
◽️
A neighbour of mine used CIHI’s online tools to find an appropriate long-term care facility for her mother. She has been delighted with the results. It is rewarding to see our data inform local decisions as well."

“I’ve been with #CIHI since 2003. Our work with #Cardiac Care quality indicators gives hospitals an opportunity to make things better within the hospital, as well as to learn from and collaborate with other hospitals. We receive feedback from #hospitals that they are using our reports to help in their #quality improvement efforts, and it’s very rewarding to hear that my work matters. I like working at @CIHI_ICIS because I feel proud to contribute to an organization that makes a #difference.”

“Although my educational background is in #political science, I developed strong SAS skills in my graduate work, as well as in my previous experience working for the County of Los Angeles. While at the County, I worked with a broad range of record-level data, including health data. My first assignment with #CIHI was analyzing #rehabilitation data with the National Rehabilitation Reporting System team. Part of my desire to move to #Canada was for its universal health care, which the U.S. doesn’t have. When I learned more of what CIHI is about and its mission, I wanted to be a part of it and help make improvements to the health care system for future generations. So, I gave up the #Hollywood life for better health care data! For the past 3 years, I have been working in a stakeholder capacity where I have more contact with clients, in terms of both providing data and holding educational #workshops and web courses/conferences. I am always fascinated with how our stakeholders use our #data in their work.” ~Farhad Mehrtash, Senior Analyst, Home and Continuing Care, @CIHI_ICIS

“During my Master of Public Health studies at Queen’s University, I heard a lot about CIHI and its work on health information in Canada. Having an interest in working with health data myself, I always wanted to work with CIHI in some capacity. After some contract work with the Public Health Agency of Canada, I secured an analyst role with the Rehabilitation and Mental Health team in 2015, and have been with CIHI since then! 😊 Along with my interest in health data, a big part of my motivation to work at CIHI has to do with applying this information to help improve health outcomes. I really enjoy the work–life balance CIHI offers, the amazing people I have had the pleasure of working with, and the variety of opportunities to improve my skill set and knowledge of health information in Canada. So far, I have learned about different areas of health reporting, including rehabilitation services and health workforce. In my new role, I hope to learn about home and continuing care reporting in Canada and to contribute to the ongoing work of improving access to home and continuing care for Canadians.”
