I have a new favorite piece. Alex Guebert has been one of my top favorites of handbell composers/arrangers after I played his arrangement of "All Creatures of Our God and King" 3 years ago at Bay View Week of Handbells. Since then he has written great works like Drive, Out of the Silent Planet, Trinity Fanfare, and Resilience, as well as provided stunning arrangements of Ah Holy Jesus, "The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want", What Child is This, and now "Be Still My Soul". The text of this hymn really comes alive in Alex's musically sensitive setting of the FINLANDIA tune. This piece is very moving, and it is one of my very favorites. I love pieces that are very musically sound while still managing to appeal to my Christian faith.

And this starts my new journey as the worship pastor at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church. Thankful for new opportunities and new friends.
If Brothers From the Father show up to play your Saturday night service, I can guarantee, without question, you’re going to wear out your dancin’ shoes three songs into the set. I’ll be the first to admit that I am probably Brothers’ biggest fan. Why? Because bass player A.J. Smith can drop the lowest notes AND do the moon walk across the entire stage, ALL while wearing sunglasses! That’s like rubbing your tummy and patting your head while trying to figure out what Phil Keegey’s lyrics mean all at the same time. For those of you who don’t know what a moon walk is, Yahoo the word for easy access to vids. An artist named Mike Jackson discovered this move when he was making a music video for Disneyland to use (I loved that ride). Brothers From the Father perform Van Halen’esque interpretations of P.I.D. (Preachers In Disguise) and Michael Peace rap songs. I don’t even know how to describe the result with words. All I can say is when you leave the show, your brain won’t be able to process any type of noise for about two hours. That’s how technically groundbreaking and unique these guys are. I am proud to say that this photo was taken by me a few weeks ago when the guys were preparing flyers and leaflets to promote their big show at the Still Waters Retirement Home for Randy Withers 95th Birthday. Happy Birthday, Randy! I know Brothers brought down the house and probably stressed out a few pacemakers. Hope you had a good one! #weeklyworshipreview#worship#worshipmusicians#worshipmusic#worshipleader#worshipleaders#praiseband#christianity#christian#blessed#churchband#church#churchmusic#christianmusic#christianmusician#christianmusicians
First time here, for friends’ brass quintet concert. Second time back, had the pleasure to work with the choir. Speedy sight reading skills at work and improvised just a little bit based on the score^_^. Well tuned warm tone Wurlitzer baby grand. Might come back to play a concert here later this year. :) #aliciawanpiano#piano#churchmusic#sundayfunday#givebacktothecommunity
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. -1 Chronicles 16:8-11
Sorry/not sorry (for real I'm not) that I don't vibe with non-harmonious, watered down, gentrified soul sounds. You can keep a message simple, direct and honest and still make it sound like REAL music. I 🙄😞🙁😖😒 most of the congregational/praise and worship stuff outchea. Especially when I see skinfolk acting like it's the best thing since salvation came along. Mother Ethel didn't sit on the mourners row and moan out a melody for this. Usher's ain't been standing at doors all these years to allow this stuff in. I need lil baby Jesus on a unicorn to ride through and help folks fa real. If you're confused start with Fred Hammond, John P. Kee, Commissioned, Kirk Franklin, Take 6 etc. I'll take you back further another day. Choirs are another course. .
