Thankful Tuesday 🙏
Surround yourself with people who will be there for you no matter what happens. My teammates at the finish line, @olivialiv26 @pharaohzgary at mile 70 and @keirahenninger presence at the end of loop one was definitely a energy booster this past weekend. #TeamCrüda#Chimera100#keirahenninger
It was beautiful.
It beat me.
But... I didn’t die.
I would have DNF’d if that was an option. Alas, the only way off The Beast, was to climb out of it. So I did. Oh, so slowly.
This was the hardest race I’ve done to date. It was harder than Tushars, because this time I trained. I put in the miles. But I was not prepared to slay the beast.
I had a great first 9miles. It was slower than expected, but I was ok with that because it was a technical course & tripping was an inevitability. It was beautiful. I loved the landscape.
I made it to the Candy Store (mid point aid station) tired but in good spirits. I headed back up the beast... and at mile 13 my body failed. Failed. My knees hurt. I couldn’t step downhill. My right Achilles was screaming. Every step brought pain. Every. Step.
Blisters like nothing I’ve ever experienced were forming, bursting. For the first time an uphill felt better than a downhill. I couldn’t run the flats.
There were tears. So many tears.
I wished for an out, a DNF. But... the only way out of the belly of the beast was up. My nutrition and lungs held, but I had too many hours inside my head.
I went to a dark place. The paincave.
I was simultaneously excited for and envious of every runner that passed me (or lapped me). They were badasses. This was no walk in the park and I am in awe of these ultra runners. Shock and awe. Mad respect to everyone who went out for two, or four more laps of that Beast. You are Hereos of mythic proportions. ******
I didn’t die. I wanted to quit. By sheer unluck I was forced to finish. It was humbling. I am glad I was physically able to move one step at a time. I’m both burnt out and inspired. The trail running - and ultra running- community is one of a kind. Thank you for letting me play trails for a while. I don’t know if I have it in me to continue, but I will always fully understand the badassery it takes to do what you do. ****
Thank you @deysilvs2run for being there with me from mile 40 to the finish line. Thank you for pacing/guiding me on my first hundred miler race. Thank you for believing in me that I can defeat "The Beast" Thank you for making sure I ate and hydrate at the aid stations before heading out to the next aid station. So this is how you run 100 miles😁 having the support you need in order to cross the finish line. You're a trooper Deysi. Blessed to have you witnessed my victory. #Chimera100#MypacerisChingona#ThankYouDeysi#ToughJourney#Goodtimesinmybook
Podcast 132 Preview with Ask the YT’s: Chimera Ultra Race Recap
“The mind is a gift, it’s a tool, and we’re the master…” - Jess

Still riding the high from yesterday's race! Last week after running with @onthejumbotron up Mt. Wilson we decided that we should do the Chimera 20 miler as a tune up training race. She was able to snag a Second place overall finish and I held on to 4th overall, Second Male. The ladies were putting it down yesterday!
Major props to @gmansl for an all out win in the 40 miler and @nvested @elipolino and @mireille.sine for strong finishes. And to all the brave souls who stayed out there for 3 and 5 laps I salute you. One day I hope to have that mental toughness.

“The Beast” awoke yesterday. We got a small—first—taste of the So Cal classic #chimera100 yesterday. @oldgoatsteve puts on a heckuva race, with a slightly sadistic penchant.
I was really touched that this race even happened, after the Holy Fire blew through over the summer, burning up our “home range”—the Santa Ana Mountains. Thanks, Steve, for making this work, and for welcoming even more of us into your trail family.
Super proud of @hidef7 for completing her hardest trail run to date. I know it wasn’t an easy afternoon, but you did it—I’m so proud to be marrying a strong woman like you. 😘
Chimera Participants & Volunteers:: Pls read Race Info PDF on the website Chimera page or access link from oldgoatraces fb pg. I will not have phone service at race headquarters. Thank you all for coming along on this journey for a new Chimera course due to the Holy Fires. We did the best we could with short notice & changes. #ultrarunning#trailrunning#chimera100#racedirectorlife
I have decided last minute to attempt my 2nd 100 mile race this weekend... I wasn’t planning on attempting Chimera until 2019 with all the course changes and fires there earlier this year..... (and I didn’t taper..) but why not?? 🤷♀️ It feels like the world is ending anyways, all my other races are cancelled. I might as well go have fun with my friends. Now I just have to get my mind around it......race starts 6 am Saturday. I believe there’s about 20,000ft of climbing. I will be running thru the night, into Sunday morning. I didn’t really prepare for this race, but I have been running a lot so we shall see how it goes. Hopefully my legs will recover from my race this past Sunday by then... I will just run what I can, I have zero expectations. I can always drop down, you can’t drop up. 😅 I think I can do it...it’s all mental anyway. #yolo#chimera100
An adventure in the rain was cut a little short by..well...the rain. Still got a nice little 3 hour jaunt in the mountains done, and lots of fun with these two! Apparently I was very excited about the picture being taken. Gonna head back out early this evening to get the rest of my mileage in. Great way to start my Saturday! 🌧
Fun little 5 hour playdate on the #chimera100 course with one of my very favorite people ever. Fall colors everywhere!! Did I mention we had fun? Did I mention we had fun? Did I mention we had fun? Heart is so filled! 📷: @golden.kast

Did ya’ all match on purpose? @factoryjeff @jessemhaynes thanks for the arse whopping on the #Chimera100 course today. Legs were a bit trashed from the long run yesterday, but oh such fun we had. These boys.. they make my heart smile. ❤️
Remember that time I finished third fee at Chimera? In January, I finally redeemed the generous gift cert from Steve Harvey for my custom belt from California Bohemian Leather, and it came in the mail today. It’s gorgeous! Thank you Marisol and Lance, it’s perfect! @bohemianleather
🎶 Reunited and it feels so good🎶 Haven’t seen this guy since he brought me home on the last 16 miles at #chimera100 . Needless to say today’s run had a lot more laughing and smiling then whining and complaining.
@howiesternphoto got this shot at the Candy Store aid station during the #chimera100 ...almost a month ago. I look at it and see the destruction. I crashed the spaceship into the side of a mountain. Having taken this time to go over it and over it and over it....I still don’t know what happened. The crash was brutal though. It’s easy to say that I’ve moved on...but it’s also kind of bullshit too. It’s a personal thing...and part of enduring...but I need to go again. Be at the #blackcanyon100k in February.....get myself out of this hole #howiesternphotography#provennutrition#orangemud#runningskirts#mountainscumbags#pablosancrowfeather
Well,it would appear that in 2017,I had an average of 145 likes a photo. That is up from 125 a photo in 2016. Haha looks like I am on an up swing!!! Thank you everyone, for following my little adventures #topnine2017
