Finally made it home and glad all is in one piece here. It was good to get away even if it became an "evacuation from Florence. " lol I really do like to travel and see new places and learn new things. It was good to visit family and explore places I may not take the time to explore visiting and planning on painting plein air. It gave me some good time to contemplate my life and work. It gave me some time to see people who are dear to me as well. My life was getting too closed here and very depressing, but I think I figured out that I do still have a lot of gumption and strength in critical situations to overcome anything that may stand in my way and find my way out of it. I've refocused my life to prioritize what is most important and get rid of things, jobs and people who have stifled my ability to move forward from here on out. It doesn't matter where I start this new venture, but that I can set the Course for Action and I am still in control here. #cherylreynoldsartfacebook#cherylreynoldsart#art#acrylic#originalpainting#landscapes#naturewondersoftheworld#preservesofnature#selfconfidence#cherylsgothergrooveback
I didn't get the chance to paint something today plein air, but I was able to take several pictures of the beach area at Indiana Dunes State Park. I will take the time to paint using my photos. This area of Lake Michigan is amazing with a wide variety of habitats, including a beach, sand dunes (big ones), black oak forest, wooded wetlands, and a button Bush marsh. All this is wrapped up in one place. Incredible. It's always sad that I can't have more time here just to hike, but mostly sit and paint somewhere. Getting here is no pleasant drive with a truck on every side of you and toll booths to pay all the time. It's kinda nerve wracking to say the least, but if you survive it, well worth it! As far as my use of paints and materials go, I'm very careful with my painting and materials. I never dump my paint water in the ground. I always dump it in the appropriate place like a trash bag or can or just take it with me. This also includes my used paper towels. I only use watercolors, but I am still extremely careful; probably more so than I am when I paint at home in my own yard, sadly enough.
Great ending to my Midwestern family and trip. 🌞🌊🤙🙏🙌✌🎨🏕#cherylreynoldsartfacebook#cherylreynoldsart#art#nationalparks#photography#indianadunes#pleinair#pleinairpainting
At Big Rock Forest Preserve today doing more plein air painting sketches with several photos of the fishing area and fish. Beautiful place! Very quiet and serene. It was hot and a bit humid in the 90s today, so I got close to the water in the shaded area. Two young women were fishing next to me; natives of Yorksville. I sometimes get a little nervous about being alone in places like this near a lake without a ranger near by. Fortunately, he made his presence known pretty soon after I got settled there along with the two gals next to me. You can't go swimming and if you fish, you gotta throw them back in. I didn't stay long, but there's something "Healthy" about being in a Preserve; something humans can't get anywhere else ~fresh air and water. 🏕🏞🎨🚣♂️🌞🌬🌊💧🌈 I think I will donate some time to volunteering for my natural preservation areas when I get home, for sure. If we take care of Mother Nature, maybe she'll take care of us a little better, too. #cherylreynoldsartfacebook#cherylreynoldsart#pleinairpainting#art#landscapes#originalpainting
At Lake Renwick Preserve Heron Rookery Nature Preserve today. It was interesting talking to one of the nature conservationists/photographer/ranger today about the preserve. He loves nature and very aware of art; especially in Chicago. Many of my art professors graduated from the Institute of Art of Chicago. I was then brought back to mind how incredibly serious "Art" is taken here and how critical the residents who appreciate art are critical and very well versed in understanding great pieces of art. It made me remember those moments at USC and how hard I did try to make art and study it. Beautiful place and I had no idea how many birds that I am so familiar with in South Carolina; especially on the coastal areas, come here for salvation and sanctuary in order to continue living, surviving and giving birth to their young. Amazing. Did a few plein air painting sketches today. #cherylreynoldsart#cherylreynoldsartfacebook#art#acrylic#originalpainting#landscapes#naturewondersoftheworld#preservesofnature#herons#canadiangeese#peliguin#birdsantuary#pleinair
Just finishing another landscape painting with acrylic paint tonight. I'd might add some glitter to this picture. I'll think about it. Had to paint something that calmed my nerves about Hurricane Florence. When I lived at the beach, I don't know how many times I had to evacuate from there! The worst part was seeing the surge rise so high in a matter of minutes, hours that you could see it from about a 1/2 of a mile back from where my family had a condo in Surfside beach on 15th Avenue South in Surfside Beach, SC. I recall the police coming by to count you and tell you that if you decide to stay, use a permanent marker to identify you with name and social security number on your body. It would get so quiet before it was going to hit and even the bugs took heed. The other part was having a letter of declaration property rights to get back to the condo. You had to wait for it and it could be months before you were able to get back to see the damage and all. It was really stressful for my folks. When I worked for Belks in cosmetics at the beach years ago, sometimes employees would stay at Belks Department store and have movies and store manager would cook for them if no one could evacuate or had a place to go. You'd basically camp out in the department store. That was great because it was safer there, too. I remember those days. So, here's my tribute to nature and how she can make me happy and serene, but she can terrify me with her strength and warning that she is in control.
