So I'm in Amsterdam. And my friend asks me to go make a birthday cake for her friend, can we use cherries which are extremely good right now? And chocolate?
Cue red wine chocolate cake. Cos that's always a good idea. Even better with a mascarpone cream topping, red wine chocolate ganache, and fresh cherries dipped in dark chocolate. I don't know why fresh cherries dipped in dark chocolate rock my world, yet strawberries dipped in chocolate feel like a travesty for both the strawberry and the chocolate. I mean, I can see why you would...but they're like an extremely attractive couple who look so freaking sexy together, but secretly have fallen out of love and are each contemplating affairs. Strawberry would probably sneak off with cream, which is only fair because that's a marriage made in heaven. Chocolate...well, frankly chocolate can have anything it chooses, cherries, pancakes, venison, raisins...you name it, chocolate will figure out a way to coat it, fill it, flavour it, accompany it, or decorate it. Let's face it, chocolate is pretty promiscuous stuff.
My point is, this was a lovely cake to make and was very well received.
Look what I just got from one of my favorite growers! We have APRICOT! This one is a mix. It’s called TOMCOT. Yuuuuuummmmy!! 😍😋 We still have Rainer and Bing Cherries!
Apricots are $2/lb
Rainer and Bing Cherries $4 a container and $2 a basket
Not only are we lucky enough to live in the Okanagan and have Cherries growing everywhere.... We are also lucky enough to have an amazing Landlord who grows ORGANIC Cherries and just drops them off on our doorstep !#okanagan#cherries#organic
