This 2010 Cork Jumper Blanc De Blancs by Riverbench Vineyard and Winery is delicious vintage sparkling wine from one of Santa Barbara's best.
Sparkling wine production in California is nothing new, but recently we've seen a boom in producers willing to invest the necessary time and energy into making one of the world's most complicated and labor intensive styles of wine. Riverbench, however, has already got this bubbly thing figured out. This bottling is crafted from 100% Chardonnay from the Riverbench Estate in Santa Maria and is wonderfully intriguing and unique. It speaks of California in its size and gusto yet retains a distinct freshness even at 8 years of age. Extended time in bottle has mellowed it's acidity and allowed for herbal and earthy secondary characteristics to develop. Spirited and full of life, this wine shows how Riverbench has managed to propel themselves to the top of the pack of domestic sparkling wine producers. What a delightful experience it was to get to taste this library release and see how time has treated it.

Arguably one of the top 5 wines of the year.
Puligny Montrachet 2000 by Naigeon Chauveau (little to no information found on the web regarding the domaine).
Despite many critics claiming that 2000 may be too old, this wine still has a lot to say. Probably at the peak of its evolution, it shows an unbelievable complexity and balance. The most obvious flavours being hazelnut, honey, butter, wax, vanilla, small pastry, biscuit,caramel, dried apricots, orange peel...the list could be endless, and all flavours are perfectly entrenched together. New hints keep coming as the wine warms up, it’s definitely not a wine to drink straight from the fridge, better to leave it a bit at room temperature.
I think Chardonnay can hardly get any better this. And if you pair some Epoisses with it, you double the pleasure.

This @bedellcellars blend of young vine #riesling , #gewurztraminer and #chardonnay is an affordable ($18) summery white that offers pretty citrus and citrus blossom aromas with delicate notes of ocean breeze and green apple in the background.
On the lighter-bodied (10.8% abv), the green apple qualities take center stage on the palate, joined by notes of gritty pear and more citrus. The gewurztraminer is surprisingly tame here, but there are some floral notes as it warms to room temperature. Most importantly, juicy acidity is well-integrated and lengthens the finish nicely — which ends with just the most subtle sprinkle of saline minerality.˙ That passionfruit quality really steps forward on a brisk, refreshing palate and is joined by guava and peach fruit flavors and a subtle floral quality. Fresh, juicy acidity pairs with frothy carbonation to create a superior texture and a long, juicy finish. . .

A Trade and Media Tasting by Champagne Andre Jacquart this afternoon. Marie Doyard (the current and fifth generation owner of Andre Jacquart who took over its management in 2004) was here to introduce her champagnes. Its local distributor, Marcus Lai of @asiawinecellar organized this tasting at Tower Club (Republic Plaza). Presently Andre Jacquart has 24 hectares under vine. One notable plot is located in Les Mesnil sur Oger village; while the rest falls within Vertus village. Annual production presently is around 100,000 bottles. During the presentation Marie Doyard highlighted 3 initiatives she has undertaken to the wine making process. Firstly long aging of wine on lees; the NV stays in lees contact for 5 years and vintage champagne for 7 years. Secondly the keeping to a very low dosage level; presently at 3-4 grams per litte of RS to zero dosage is practised. Thirdly the use of barriques (used ones from Burgundy) for fermenting the grapes from its Le Mesnil sur Oger plot. We had the opportunity to taste 4 champagnes this afternoon; they were: (a) Vertus Experience Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs NV Extra Brut; (b) Le Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs NV Extra Brut; (c) Le Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs NV Brut Nature (d) Le Mesnil Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2009 Extra Brut.
