Wine of the day:
🍷 2015 Manciat-Poncet Les Chênes Mâcon-Charnay.
📍 THE REGION:
Charnay-lès-Mâcon is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne in eastern France.
🍇 THE VINEYARD:
Resulting from the merger of two family estates in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation (the Manciats in Charnay-lès-Mâcon and the Poncet family in Vergisson), the Domaine Manciat-Poncet enjoys an excellent reputation in the Mâconnais.
Marie-Pierre Manciat's father Claude was one of a handful of top-flight producers in the Maconnais area. Up until the early 1980's, his wines were sold in bulk to local negociants, but shifting market trends during that period made it possible for a small producer to make a good living bottling his own wine. The domaine is actually split up into two parts. The Mâcon producing estate is located in Charnay, just outside of Mâcon, and these vines came from Claude’s side of the family (Manciat) while the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards in the village of Vergisson belonged to his wife’s family (Poncet). Together their estate comprises approximately 12 hectares of vines and all wines are estate bottled. Vinification for the Pouilly-Fuissé consists of 100% barrel fermentation in 50% new oak. .
. ⭕ THE WINE:
A compelling mouthful Chardonnay. Right on point - ripe apple, oak and subtle minerality + wet stone.
Amazing value. .
I swear I’ll get better at posting as time goes on but wanted to talk about this Pinot noir I found at @btlbarn in Santa Rosa, Ca, my hometown. I first got introduced to Rivers-Marie about two years ago by my good friend at @vokelcellars. Named after the two founders, this Calistoga based company makes small productions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. I had a 2012 and was shocked at how well it had kept its tannins, acid and flavor for a four year old bottle. This 2006 bottle was definitely a trust fall of a purchase, but it did not disappoint. The aroma was woodsy with a hint of rose pedal. The flavor was rich and delicate, but retained a cranberry, cherry and plum balance. @riversmariewines is an awesome brand and I am dying to try the rest of their lineup in the future! #riversmariewines#sonomacoast#pinotnoir#chardonnay#cabernetsauvignon#calistoga#napavalley#wineinfluencer#wineindustry
While honing my #seasonal#playlist this year, I want to recommend three slightly off-the-beaten path albums for the season:
The one to play while trimming the tree with kids, friends or lovers is the swinging MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE DOOWOP PROJECT featuring the amazing @itsdwaynecooper (did you catch him in the recent glorious revival of @smokeyjoesshow ?) and fellow vocalists in DooWop-ified holiday classics and more with street-corner tight harmonies and toe tapping joy, though be prepared to be stopped dead in your tracks for the a cappella “Have Yourself a Merry Little #christmas ” that closes the album.
Buy the album: https://store.thedoowopproject.com The company’s gone home and you’re sitting by the fire with someone special, wine is swirling around in your glasses and now you’re chilling to the jazzy and seductive (and playful!) THE HOPE OF CHRISTMAS, with multiplatinum artist @ahcallaway ‘s breezy interpretations of Emmy-winner #williamschermerhorn ’s lyrics, backed by 29 of the best jazz musicians. Swallow a generous amount of the #chardonnay or whatever and settle back for the seductive album opener of the title song, written by Ann and Bill, and slalom your way into the night…

Okay you’ve had one too many spiked #eggnog s, Aunt Tilly’s politics are getting on your nerves, you’re just not landing on this whole Christmas thing this year and you want to scream. It’s time for HAVE FAITH, one of the most original and unique concept #album s about #faith and lack thereof, a collaboration between Tony-nominated powerhouse @marytestanyc and Tony-winning orchestrator #michaelstarobin . Recalibrate your view of the world through their stunningly unique take on songs like @iamstevent , Richie Supa and Glen Ballard’s “Pink”, then have one more eggnog, tell Aunt Tilly to f*** off, and go have yourself a merry little Christmas!

It was the final leg of the drive pretty much yesterday from Nelson to Blenheim. We stopped at Pelorous Bridge one of the locations in the Hobbit..guess the scene? Clue wine Barrells.
Was a good day for food. I started my day with some hot smoked salmon eggs Florentine. @cloudybay we had Salmon Poke, a caprese salad and some beef yakatori sticks! All washed down with a nice glass of wine.
When in Blenheim you can't really not visit the wineries and cellar doors. Managed to visit some I didn't get to last time round. @huia_vineyards and @frommwinery also revisited @hans_herzogwine and @no1familyestate aswell.
Finally a trip back to @moabrewerynz a dry hopped pilsner, a Choocolate and espresso stout and a sample of their IPA were had.
Swung by the 2018 @saintclairwine Harvest house. Brought back great memories of all the people, family meals and irregular sleeping patterns of the 12hr split shift!

Welcome to Cycles Gladiator’s Instagram! A little bit about us: Noted award winning winemaker Adam LaZarre started Cycles Gladiator in 2005. His goal: to use 20 years of Central Coast vineyard experience to produce authentic wines connected to the land. It didn’t hurt that the provocative packaging had an iconic image of a naked red-headed siren on a bicycle to attract as many wine lovers as possible to Cycles Gladiator wines. More on that iconic image to come 😉 #cycles#gladiator#chardonnay#californiawine#awardwinning
Complimenti ancora!🥂
The 25 Days of Wine. Day 9.

Welcome to Tuesday, Where Talk is Cheap.
Each week in this space I will feature a bottle of wine I have enjoyed for under $25.
I’ve often had parents of singletons comment more than once to me, “Oh, you did it the easy way.” Meaning, that having 3 babies at the same time
Was easier than having 3 babies, one at a time.
From no experience, or knowledge, do they speak. It happened again just last month.
I am taken aback by this brash and bold statement. But, I just smile and say, “It’s all hard.” And then, I pick up my #glassofwine and make a toast to #motherhood . ....................
Sonoma Coast .................. Light and bright in color, just perfect for this early #summer season. Aromatics of bright peaches and lemon zest are purely pleasing. With a silky smoothness, but not heavy feel, this #chardonnay dances on the palate. Citrus, with a slight sweetness, make this a must buy and try #bottleofwine .
Given a 94 rating by Robert Parker, I think this Vinous quote sums it up best:
“Quite simply, this is a gorgeous wine for the money. “ Found at Whole Foods for $24.99.

Easily one of the gentlest, most sippable chardonnays I've had. If you're not a fan of oakiness (like me), this is a chardonnay for you. True to the tasting notes and incredibly springish to the mouth, it's bright and complex tasting with a nice maturity for such a young wine.
