Never posted these photos from the most amazing joined birthday party 🎉🚜💝 It was fun getting to create such bright illustrations and handlettering ☺️ @foodtruckcaravan killed it with the party planning for this event and really made each station come to life! It’s always great to create for clients that have a strong vision and aren’t afraid of lots of color.
Now that my bestie has received her gift I can share it with all of you! Side note: I’m already crying.
My best friend in the entire word, @lauren_byrne_it is not only the kindest person you’ll ever meet but the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Her gorgeous soul just radiates from her and envelopes you in the warmest hug. Distance has never kept us apart- when I did the math I realized that we’ve lived in separate cities for 90% of our friendship It made me realize how truly blessed we are to have each other. To have a friend where distance literally means nothing, is the biggest gift that I could never repay enough times. Now that there’s a few states that separate us, I’ve learned how ingrained she truly is to our lives. I talk to her more than anyone else and cannot wait until January when she comes to visit. I love you and adore you Lauren♥️ .
Earlier this week, I was standing in line at Micheals chatting it up with another customer. She peeked in my cart, asked me was I was making, and I pulled up my Instagram to show her some of my projects. She told me I was talented, but followed it with this: “But be careful, sweetie. Don’t be so eager advertise yourself as a black owned-business when you’re starting out, it’ll hold you back. You know people don’t support like they should when they see one of us. Just do your art and leave it at that.” Y’all. That woman’s comment has been weighing on me heavy all week. I could write some long-winded analysis unpacking her backwards ass logic but I’ll just say this: Putting my black hands with my work might might not be as appealing to ignorant people like her, but it also might signal to another black or brown kid to pursue something they’ve been afraid to, and live outside of the box society tries to keep them confined to. So here’s my unapologetically black hand, holding a pen and doing something I love for my unapologetically black-owned business. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. ✨
It was an honor to be entrusted by Agincourt community to recreate the heritage village in this windows drawing. I learnt so much through this project about the place i call home now :)
In collaboration with Metrolinx, Agincourt Village Community Association and Scarborough Arts.
