How often do you consciously think about how you speak to yourself?

What if one of your coaches or training partners came up to you and said, “John you suck at power cleans!” “Jill, you suck at burpees!” ? How would you react to those statements? You would tell that coach or friend to kick rocks and you probably wouldn’t want to be around that person very much. 
_

So why on earth do we accept those statements when we say them to ourselves? All too often I hear similar statements coming from people’s mouths in the box on an almost daily basis. If you tell yourself something enough times, eventually you start believing it as fact. Now imagine if you you spoke to yourself in the opposite tone. “I’ve gotten so much better at cleans than when i started”. “I’m going to keep practicing my burpees until I’m stronger at them”. “I gave my best effort today”. _

Wow, that’s some powerful stuff! Remember, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, and your actions become your habits. Change your thoughts and your self talk and you can change your outcome friends.

Let’s be real. Eating healthy on Thanksgiving is practically a joke! BUT. Here are some tips and tricks to not overeat and become fluffy this week:

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, let’s talk about how to eat healthy while still eating like royalty.

First off, eat breakfast! That will help make sure you’re not going to overload when it’s time for dinner.

Try to stick to as many veggies as possible. Baked sweet potatoes are an excellent substitute for regular mashed potatoes (no marshmallows though!). Asparagus with a little salt and pepper? Delicious!

It gets sticky when we start looking at the breads. The best recommendation? Hunt for a gluten free option!

As for Le Grand Fromage, the turkey, substitute olive oil for butter as you cook it for a less fattening option. Both the white (fewer calories) and the dark (more vitamins) meat are good for you.

What about a healthy dessert? A personal favorite is baked cinnamon apple and crisps are an easy dish to make paleo, gluten free, and/or sugar free!

So, this crazy thing happened...Monday morning.  I got to see how much stronger I am than when I began this CrossFit journey 10 months ago.
When I first started I thought logging all these numbers was unnecessary.  I wasn't really interested in how much weight I could lift or how fast I could do things.  I just wanted to be healthier.
I was focused on doing things like stairs or getting off the floor without pain or having to hold on or be assisted.  I wanted to have better balance so I wouldn't keep falling.  I wasn't really even focused on weight loss in the beginning...just being able to function better.
10 weeks ago we did a workout called the CrossFit Total made up of back squats, shoulder presses, and dead lifts. Then each week we did those moves in a progression starting at a low weight and building up.  Then we redid the workout. This picture shows my 10 week progression...but that's not the best part!

1 year ago, @akgeorgiapeach and I decided to get our butts in gear and start a healthy lifestyle both mentally and physically. We started our journey at @cfiwalnut and couldnt be happier. Each day is still a struggle but the end game out weighs any immediate satisfaction. Often times we faulter in our healthy eating and on some days we feel the need to have a lazy day. We're still learning, we're still struggling, we're still succeeding, we're still working hard, we're still making progress, and we are still loving our new lifestyle change. When you make the change and understand its a long term commitment and not a one night fix, the progress you see through the journey is an incredible feeling. Keep fighting, keep succeeding, and keep at it. One day at a time can easly turn into 365 days at a time! 💪💪✊👍👍

If you look at this workout and think it’s “too easy”, or you need to make it harder somehow, you’re making a mistake. Fitness doesn’t need to be complicated, fancy, extremely difficult, or sexy. It needs to be affective. Can you take these movements and execute them with quality as close to perfection as you can for a full 20 minutes? Will you take the time to make sure your hollow rocks are perfect? Will you take the time to make sure you don’t rush through your ring rows, or cheat your ROM? Will you hold yourself to a strict standard on the shoulder press?
