So as we are getting closer and closer to summer (Sydney still raining though so doesn’t feel like summer yet!) and with my little bub getting just a little bigger, I will be getting my hands stuck back into the clay again. Something always draws me back to clay. Perhaps it’s the utilitarian aspect, the act of creating objects that that are useful, or simply just making objects with thought, love and care. I will be making more useful objects with wonderful glazes, jewellery and some special yarn bowls as well. Looking forward to sharing new items with you along the way. This week’s efforts on the wheel have paid off! After staying up till 4am firing and waiting for the kiln to cool today I’m over the moon with this prototype. I am completely in love with the colours in this glaze combo 😍 As for the form, lid fit, size and feel, I could not be happier... this bad boy is mine but I will be making more soon. #learningbydoing#selftaught#ceramicsaustralia#sustainability#coffeecup
This is generally how I feel about Christmas!! BUT it is the perfect time to support our local makers around Brisbane, and Australia, So, for this reason I love it, all the artists and shop owners that support us all year round benefit greatly from this festive season, So go out and support the artists and stores that you love, and make you do a little jig!!! 😂. I also love Christmas because I get to eat food with my family, and a few champagnes or two don't go astray. Happy Friday lovelies.
Oh and thank you all for your comments on my last post, and sharing your knowledge about all things plate making. I'm heading out to grab some styrafoam boxes to see how I go. Fingers crossed
My new favourite glaze right now! I love the subtle pink floating through the sea of blue and green. All the colours of summer combined in a cup! I think I’ll be keeping this one for myself - let’s see how long it lasts before I accidentally break it 💁🏻♀️
I'll be doing a drop of colourful work at the lovely @pepiteshop of Fitzroy! Irina of pepite has curated a wicked lineup of over 60 artists (!!) at her humble lil shop now in its 2nd year of trading. Go Irina! Pop in and gift someone (or yourself) a handmade gift for the holidays and support local artists 💕
No filter needed for these mugs! A couple of my favourites from the last firing. This glaze varies so much in different sections of the kiln. It ranges from dark blues and purples to lilac and white depending where there is more heat or where it has been deprived of most oxygen. Looks almost like a cosmological explosion 🤩
This December workshop is a great opportunity to relax into the holiday season and embrace your creativity. Anna is a ceramic sculptor who creates quirky hybrid creatures combining clay and other materials. She uses a lot of recycled metal and found objects in her work.
In this workshop you will create your own clay creature inspired by steampunk.
Session 1 – you will construct the body in clay and prepare it for bisque firing. @annaoneale will help to design your creature, using a range of new and repurposed materials and build it allowing for shrinkage and effective assemblage post firing. Anna will have a lot of materials for you but you are most welcome to bring your own as well.
Session 2 – you will assemble and finalise bring your creature to life using a range of additional materials such as paint, steel, glass, fabric and accessories.
Anna will be sharing her tips and tricks from her 20 years experience to seamlessly combine the different materials and create one cohesive piece. Suitable for all skill levels. Today’s teacher feature is the amazing Anna O’Neale. @annaoneale teaches across many of our classes but we are excited about her upcoming workshop in December - Steam Punk........ Over to Anna.
I fell in love with clay after my first try.

One half of a pair of sea creatures that washed up in Bendigo recently. This Octopus seams to be a rare breed that can survive out of water for extended periods of time. Only requires the steam of a hot brew in the morning and a good yarn to remain happy and healthy 🐙🐙
