Progress. Getting close to finishing up with the underglaze color. Next comes the Amber glaze on the warm colors, and then a bisque fire. The areas that need my turquoise glaze will then be coated and fired one more time. #kerseyceramicsharlingen
“Cojo Surf Check” This 18” x 31” high fired ceramic mural was inspired after years of surfing Cojo Point. Excitement would overcome me as I checked out the waves from the deck of our boat, and surfed perfect waves the rest of the day.
Lymesmith Wins International CODAawards Merit Award
MADISON, WI, August 31, 2018 – When artists, designers, industry resources, and clients work together, common places are transformed into spectacular spaces. CODAworx, the hub of the commissioned art economy, has once again partnered with Interior Design magazine to announce the CODAawards to recognize collaborations that result in outstanding projects which successfully integrate commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces.
I’m very excited to report that my project 'Hanging Garden' received Merit honors in the category of Residential Projects. The project was a collaboration between Lymesmith and @neesonmurcutt The project, a 15m long ceramic mural around the pool of a private residence in Sydney, is made from handmade glazed terracotta tiles. The colours and textures, arranged in harmonious counterpoint to the lush and rocky environment, frame the pool and outdoor living spaces in a vibrant embrace.
"This project, with its sophisticated use of light, shadow, texture, and colour, is beautifully integrated into the landscape."
-Reed J. McMillan
In its sixth year, the CODAawards received 426 entries from 30 different countries around the globe, representing over $97 million USD in commissions. Merit winning projects were found as far as Japan to Fort Lauderdale, from San Francisco to Poland. The merit winners exemplify the best of what can happen when artists and design professionals collaborate to create artful spaces in our built environment.
The CODAawards are an initiative of CODAworx, (Collaboration of Design + Art), an online hub connecting world-wide artists, designers, and fabricators with would-be clients.
