The nature of our minds is such that we are constantly being drawn away from the present moment. It is more agreeable to dwell on the joys of the past or anticipation of an unknown future rather than the shittiness that generally is the now. The stresses and maladies of the present often cause us to be caught in a vice-like grip between recollections of the past and fabrications of the future. It is comforting to relive memories like movies in our head and exciting to envision our fortunes and circumstances changing in the times to come. Compared to that, the present seems so unappealing. But the only thing that exists, truly exists, is what you are experiencing as you read this. It takes practice and concentration to bring your attention to the now. I experience it through ceramics. When I step into the studio I am present and aware. Not surprisingly, this is where I experience the clearest thoughts and insights into my life. There is no need for an activity to catalyze this mindset though. Give it a try. Something as simple as taking out your headphones on the walk to work and just existing in the present. Live for the moment you are experiencing
Meet: Sylvette David/Lydia Corbett (1934)
French painter & ceramicist and former artist’s model known for being “the girl with the ponytail “ in Picasso’s Sylvette series of paintings. She started drawing to pass the time while she sat for Picasso. She changed her name to avoid being recognized only as Picasso’s muse. She began painting seriously in her 40’s and her work has been exhibited in Japan and England. Her work possess a dreamlike quality born of naivety. She likes to celebrate a childlike freedom of form.
Thought these tumblers shrunk an insane amount. Was thinking to myself, I know porcelain shrinks quite a bit, but man, what the heck happened? Then I realized I purposely made these extra tiny for a dear friend’s lil kids 😂 Glad it’s the weekend because I’m spacing out!
Last post today, I just want to remind you I’ll be in Little 5 Points Saturday and Sunday 3pm-8pm! I’ll mostly have mugs, wine cups, and ramen bowls because I’m limited to a 6 ft table. Hope to see you there!
Another Raku pot. This one reminds me of a dragon egg! The glaze was difficult to capture, but it’s a beautiful silvery lavender color. The last slide is a wobbly video of the whole pot 😅I need to find a better way to do little videos
These past weeks, basically, my days have been made of throwing, repeatedly, again and again and again, the same shapes, to learn the sequence leading to a particular object. 🥣🥣🥣🥣
Sometimes, I feel boredom and eagerness to work again on a real production for my brand.
Sometimes, it’s pain in the body and exhaustion, working on muscles that I didn’t even know existed.
Sometimes, it’s an intense concentration on trying to relax and BREATHE for my movements to become more fluid.
But, most of the time, I am actually overwhelmed by the pleasure of discovering the new superpowers growing in my hands : feeling as one with the clay and moving together like in a dance...
Sounds so cheesy, but I promise, true story!
This is just a small sample of some of the amazing ceramic pieces that adorn our shelves. In addition to the “Travel Series” mugs made for us, we’re proud to sell Bombabird Ceramics The ceramics are microwave and dishwasher safe, and make a great addition to any coffee or tea set up. Come in Saturday, July 21, from 9AM to meet the artist, and learn more about her art. Look for more items throughout the shop. We will be starting to incorporate some of these pieces into our High Tea Service soon.
Этим летом @potteralexey_ceramics , @pokidaeff и я.
Каждый из нас проведёт МК, на которые можно будет записаться и приехать.
@pokidaeff - гончарные классы

I made these.
Can hardly believe my eyes.
They really do look like a set!
My friend Vi asked me if I would make a set of 8 bowls for everyday use. I felt the pinch in my brain, the voice that said "you can't do sets!"
What shape would she like? What kind of clay? What colours?
All she gave me in direction was "not too gritty, and not too large, so we don't eat too much ice cream ☺️" everything else was up to me.
I was so bloody meticulous in the process, scales and ruler out the whole time! Still, I was nervous about what the end size would be.
I mixed the glazes from scratch (because I didn't have commercial cone 10 glazes), using test tiles and all! Still, I was nervous about what the end glaze result would be.
When I got these yesterday the relief was enormous!
Today, I AM A POTTER!!!
