Full #ootd for today. I was really loving my look today, and felt chic and cheerful (and a little bit @maiseltv). The only things true vintage were my faithful 1930s celluloid greyhound and the 1950s belt. All the rest is modern.
This is an Arnold fountain pen in black celluloid with blue and yellow streaks, some appear lime green c. late 1930s. Remmie Arnold founded the Arnold Pen Company in 1935 on E. Washington Street in Petersburg, Virginia. He spent twenty years at the Edison Pen Company in Petersburg and set out on his own. Arnold was a high volume, low cost pen company that he claimed was the second largest pen company in the world in 1958. The company was still in business in 1968. This 5 1/4 inch long pen features a gold plated clip, cap band and lever. The clip design is very similar to the 1938 Parker Parkette clip. The gold plated stainless steel nib is stamped ARNOLD over PEN CO INC over PETERSBURG.
I have had a lot of my customers coming back to try to get more. It’s not the easiest material to get with a very big buy in. It can take 4-6 months just to get made and then the material is still not fully cured. Think fender with the pickguards shrinking. I cut out a Jazzmaster pickguard the week I got it and then put it away and let it sit. I came back to it a year later figuring that was enough time for the celluloid to cure which it was. I put the pick guard after the template that I made it on and it shrunk 1/16” - 1/8” around the perimeter!
So even if I get the material this week it can’t be used for at least six months to year. If it is used earlier you’re risking customers complaining. I have been thinking about doing a group purchase and everyone would get their sheets and have to cure them on their own essentially. Curing is just letting it sit and off gassing.
I'm only opening this up to builders since Celluloid is a material that can have problems if you don't know what you're doing. It will require a payment in full before I place the order. I have plenty of references with very well known builders. There will be a good discount for purchasing in advance which will be figured out when I confirm pricing with my supplier.
To give me an idea of the amount of interest please tell me how many sheets of 13"x17"x0.90" sheets you would be interested in at a $60 retail(I will figure out the discount as soon as my costs are figured out) I can make sheets to larger sizes depending on your order size. Please DM me your e-mail address, brand name, your name and number of sheets.
