I’m truly shocked to hear about the passing of our very good mate Pete Shelley.. an absolutely lovely bloke who it was always a total pleasure to gig with - which we did.. a lot! And as I’m firmly of the ‘celebrate the life’ persuasion in moments like these I may take this opportunity to listen to some of those fabulous Buzzcocks hits to remind myself what an incredible tunesmith Pete was. Those melodies have to be about the catchiest in all of punk dontcha think?
The Buzzers and Damned toured Japan together... getting on for 20 years ago now it must be... where, apart from doing the shows we all discovered the joys of karaoke. Thankfully there’s no video of me and Pete performing Dancing Queen together - the pic will have to suffice (thank gawd!). And punk festivals certainly won’t be the same any more without Pete.. I can’t think of any other bands that quaff champers in their dressing room. With Pete it was “no Moët... no show-ey” - “no Chandon.. no band on”. Fabulous, eh!!! We’ll miss you Pete - love from the Damned, X❤️🎸🍾🥂
That’s it... all gigs now complete - and I’m guessing that like myself the rest of our touring party are equally cream crackered.. but what a way to finish with an unexpectedly spectacular Sheffield show for both Johnny Moped and the Damned. So thanks to the great audience, some of whom have travelled almost as extensively as us over the past few months.. and for the many gifts we’ve received.. books, records, sweets, beers, photographs, and the rest - all very much appreciated. Burp!
In this pic we attempt to capture both bands and Sheffield audience.. not easy! But there IS a full complement of Mopeds & Damned members (spot the drummer!) plus Seano and Todd from the crew, bearded Simon the promoter, a Moped tour manager and our lovely merch ladies tucked away in there.
Don’t forget - there AIN’T no Sanity Clause!!!🎅🏻🎄
The boys really loved their first Damned experience (first proper gig experience if you ask me because their first gig was Imagine Dragons who were a bit yawny 😂) They both had to have t-shirts obviously, Toby says his is "the best one ever", I think he'd like to be @captainsensible1 when he grows up, or just gets a bit bigger 😁
