A throwback to our visit to Canyonlands NP this past summer. We we're there as part of our PCS road trip from TX to WA so our visit was short. We had our pup Basil in the Jeep so it was basically a driving tour and unfortunately no hiking... definitely need to go back! I fell in love with the blue sky and rock formations.
I looked off to the distance. I saw him along the horizon. His great mass of a body took up both the sky and the earth. He filled up my vision and I had to look away. Was it he who god warned us about. How his beauty would attract us so, we couldn’t resist.
It’s almost that time of year again where I get on my knees like a well-paid prostitute and hover my iPhone over the edge of 1000 ft canyons, showing you my cutting-edge photography skills. 🤣🤷🏻♀️
We spent last Christmas in Moab, hiking through snow-packed Arches & driving around beautiful Canyonlands National Park. This year we’re hitting the road to Vegas, but we’re going to stop in Moab for the night and hit up Canyonlands the following morning before we finish the second half of our drive. Vegas is roughly a 12-hour drive from Denver, so it’s easily done in a day...
My brother is *hopefully* joining us and has never seen the “west slope” of Colorado. I can’t wait for him to see the other side of the state. 💜
So the plan is to hit up Colorado Nat’l Monument near Grand Junction and then drive the scenic route down to Moab, UT. It’s been a REALLY rough past several months for me, so I’m VERY excited to be getting back on the road with my two favorite dudes. 🥰...
You can scroll over to see some of my favorite pics and videos from last year’s Moab trip. Fingers crossed the High Rockies & I-70 corridor will cooperate weather-wise and give us clear passage through the mountains! 🤞🏼🏔
New post on the blog! In September I had the opportunity to camp in Moab with my friend @skinewhere and it was AMAZING...and kind of changed my opinion on the desert. Read about my fall weekend camping trip and visit to Arches National Park!
Before overlanding became a “thing”, we just threw food in a cooler, a sleeping bag in the back, and started following hellacious old mining roads into the deep canyon country to see what was out there. Lizards, hawks, cactus and pliers (to remove the cactus from us) were our friends. Today my ride is better, but the fun is just as intense, and my face hurts just as much from grinning. In the end, it’s less about the gear and more about the ‘tude, right? Adventure is by definition unpredictable. When you know the story in advance, it isn’t really adventure. So go get lost somewhere. 🙃

Don’t think twice, sometimes the best decisions come from jumping into things!🤸🏼♂️ .
So many amazing things I’ve done, roads I choose to take in life, have been based on spontaneous decisions. I said I’d try out a boarding school and only packed one bag when I went there, thinking I won’t be staying long, and ended up having the best 3 years of my life.
I posted a YouTube video about environmental problems and ended up getting the most views and likes on it.
I got asked to go away and travel by a friend, and threw away all my other plans just by saying “why not”, “YES”! Because of that I ended up traveling around a year. Where way more “why not?” Decisions were made. And where I met all these amazing like-thinking people. Experienced a lot of new cultures and got to see and do many amazing things. Just by that one quick “yes”. See a lot of the things we ‘just do’ in life turn out to be the best decisions! Doesn’t matter if it’s big or small ones. Overthinking often leads us to disappointment and regret. So just do it! Cause why not? .
This picture was taken at canyonlands national park, I wanted to climb so badly so I took every opportunity that I had. Threw myself up on the rock without a plan and needed up on the peak in the end🐒🧗🏼♀️🏜 #utah#utahrocks#moab#climbing#loveclimbing#travel#travelerlajf#carpediem#beautifuldestinations#visitmoab#travelfeatures#girlswhohike#canyonlandsnationalpark#girl#canon7dmarkii#canonphotography#canon
The Christian mystic cares for the Earth not merely because of a divine commandment or because of a sense of stewardship (both of which imply a degree of dualistic separation) but because of a sense of union. In the third century, the great mystical theologian Origen of Alexandria spoke of the entire world as the Body of Christ. This insight implies an intimate union between humanity and the natural world. As Paul points out, the hand cannot say to the heart "I don't need you," and vice versa. The same is true of humanity and Nature. Both are part of a larger Body and need each other.
At the same time, Nature forms a mirror of our core humanity, revealing to us profoundly beautiful elements within ourselves that we've forgotten or neglected. This mirroring is an embodiment of the inner life of the Trinity, where the Father knows and celebrates himself in the mirror of the Son, and the Son knows and celebrates himself in the mirror of the Father. Or, to use Buddhist terms, Spaciousness / Emptiness knows itself in the mirror of Form, while Form knows itself in the mirror of Spaciousness / Emptiness.
A similar mirroring occurs with Nature and humanity. We know and delight in the hidden transpersonal elements of our inner soul in the mirror of Nature, while the natural world knows and delights in its hidden personal elements within the mirror of humanity.
Finally, the Christian mystic cares for the Earth because he or she engages in a deep love affair with the natural world. The Song of Songs embodies this relationship beautifully, where the love between God and the soul is spoken of continually in terms of fruit trees, gardens, springs, doves, lambs, perfumes, apples and flowers. Thus, the natural world is intimately tied to the love affair between God and the soul and participates in the mutuality of divine and earthly longing and fulfillment.
