I just found out today that an article of mine on @dirtragmag has been live for over a month!
Here's to breaking through your comfort zones and embracing the unknown... Imagine catching a ride with a random stranger, being dropped off in a desert town with just your bike and some gear, then heading out on solely your own human power across the red dirt as the sun sets. It may sound appealing to many, as it was to me, but instead, I was instantly overwhelmed.
These are called 'The Needles', they are red and white sandstone that formed 30 million years ago when this part of Utah was under water. These beds are lake and tidal deposits. When the Colorado plateau raised it brought these up ~5500 feet! And now they have their unique shape due to erosion. #geology#sedimentary#sandstone#canyonlands#theneedles#utah
