“Cuando te levantes por la mañana, piensa en lo precioso que es el privilegio de estar vivo: respirar, pensar, disfrutar, amar, entonces haz que ese día cuente!”.
1,776 pages later! This set of books (I’m not sure you can exactly call them a series) was challenging for me to read. Particularly, End of Watch. I’m working on a lengthy review of that book so I won’t delve too much into what made that read so difficult for me on a personal level. However, from a reader’s perspective? Holly Gibney makes these books unforgettable for me. I can think of very few realistically, relatably, and redeemably flawed characters in popular fiction. King includes her struggles with mental health (of which there are many) not as a token plot point but as “bells and whistles” or as a programmer like Holly would say “a bug that becomes an unexpected feature”. Namely, not as a sign of weakness or something to be stigmatized but as a character trait as basic as eye color or hair color. If you haven’t read these books yet - I highly recommend them for Holly’s character alone. More thoughts on End of Watch and The Outsider to come. #stephenking#stephenkingbooks#constantreader#horror#mrmercedes#finderskeepers#endofwatch#billhodges#billhodgestrilogy#theoutsider#hollygibney#horrorreads#unreadshelfproject2018#candle#crateshelf#bookstagram#bookdragon
