Camping in Brandywine Meadows this weekend after a fun-filled day on Brandywine Mountain.
It may have been t-shirt weather during the day, but it’s starting to feel like winter in the mountains at night! We’ll be digging snow caves in no time. #brandywinemeadows
T-19 weeks..Rest day...
Legit, anytime I don't run, I get antsy. So of course, went into full mode planning for Tokyo Marathon.
Flight Tickets got booked today; pulled out the travel guide, watched some Japan "to do" videos, & got some Japan transit cards from fam. It's gonna be a family vacation 💗 &....another biggie.....invested in a treadmill today. it's getting delivered this week (Eeeeeee...).
It's totally on like Donkey Kong. T- 19 weeks. #runnershirlztrainstokyo in full effect this week.
✔run training plan
✔nutrition change plan
✔ treadmill on order
Steveston Icebreaker 8km January 2018. This was my first official chip timed race! The winds this day were unbelievable. Running against almost 50km/hr winds was a feat in itself. I had no idea one of my idols @daynapid ran until I looked at the results later in the day.
W10D7: Well that’s a wrap on week 10!! In this photo- occasionally a rural runner must remove big rocks from the road so nobody has a run-in with them. All that distance covered and I saw only one vehicle - I had the whole countryside to myself. Buck Cherry’s Bring It On Back gave me the drive to finish strong today 🎶I got the speed and I got the power🎶 and I arrived feeling strong. Got my 30 minutes of yoga in plus a nice epsom salt bath. Farmer has gone to help someone else wrap up their harvest so when he gets back it’ll be time for 🍿🍷🎬. Happy Sunday all. Big congrats to all of you who crushed races this weekend 🙌🏼❤️!! #strongerthanyesterday#runfarther#ruralrunning#irunthisbody#runnersofinstagram#runnerscommunity#womenrunning#canadianrunning#lovefaithrun
Had great time out there today in the #6ix at @runcrs Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half marathon. Been five years since racing these streets and the atmosphere in my return didn’t disappoint. Crowds were fantastic and likely the most stacked field between both the half and full I’ve competed in triathlon or running. Ended up running a big #pb of 1:09:28 (3:17/km pace) and 8th Overall out of more than 11000. It will slow start for opening 5km but still had 1:08:xx in my sights going thru 10k in 32:30 but really couldn’t seem to pick the pace up when the time came 12k into the race and my group of three starting to gap me so ended up solo for final 9k. I kind of expected it playing out like that being that in middle of marathon build, still very proud of the time nonetheless, and so happy I was there to witness some fantastic canadian runners performances including @camlevins breaking the Canadian record that had stood for 43 years. Need to give shout to @csbalestrini with absolutely phenomenal performance in the half - seriously watch out this guy is the next big thing in Canadian distance running. Also @captainmorganruns with fantastic result in the full just amazing and happy got to witness just a little bit of it (wish I could’ve helped you out a little from 14-18 or so when you came on by - next time). Thanks @danieljclarke for the photo. .
Well here's a wrap up on what was an amazing day for my son and I! Thanks for all the comments earlier!
My son ran his 1st ever full marathon in 3:25:02! So proud of him as can be seen by the big hug at the finish line. We have so much fun running together so to see him achieve this in a better than goal time was amazing!
The 1st picture was taken by a lady in my run club. Many of them traveled from out of town even though not running to support and cheer on those that were. Amazing groups!
My son was 1st in under 20 and 29th out of 178. I was 3rd overall and 2nd in 40-49!
Cheers and happy running instarunners!
I truly can't believe what happened today. I woke up this morning not wanting to run. I took the train downtown not wanting to run. Waiting an hour downtown in the cold I was miserable and didn't want to run. Waiting in the corral I started to cry. And then I started. Got over it and never looked back. I ran MY race at MY pace. And after all the shit that's happened a miracle happened!
I honestly didn't think that I was going to finish today. Never mind finishing with a PB. BUT I finished with a 10km, half marathon AND new marathon PB. There were nothing but smiles today. And happy tears at the finish line. #STWM you did it again!
Last year I finished in 5:33. This year: 5:08! Next year: sub 5!
I hope that everyone who ran, walked or rolled their way to the finish line has this winning feeling!
I'm so happy I shed a tear in my truck after this...no ITB pain, discomfort or even noticeable sensation today 🎉🎉🎉 I'm not convinced from one run that it's healed of course, but this is a big deal. My War on Sitting is working. #sittingisevil
Beautiful morning (AGAIN) with @pacetrailruns today at Smith Creek. So in love with exploring new places around Kelowna with these guys twice a week. Will be sticking to 2x/week running for now to play it safe... happy last bit of the weekend friends
Gawwwd what a spectacular day 😍! So glad I took my run to the reservoir. I can’t remember the last time I ran there. I thought I underdressed in my short sleeve top but nope- it was so perfectly warm but with a slight nip to keep me comfortable. I felt really good too. Just took it nice and easy and enjoyed the run. I haven’t been running much beyond 10k lately so it felt good to get a bit more distance in. Hope you’re all enjoying your Sunday’s!
I had SO MUCH FUN cheering today at #STWM with #mavericksruncrew peeps.😄Almost as fun as racing!😉
Didn’t realize my sign would be such a big hit... got lots of laughs, smiles, and more than a few offers (sorry @gtrs1)😂Cheer squad mission accomplished. 👊🏼🎉
So proud of the crew today with @n_forg @rkuchinsky @heathrow13 @el_bar CRUSHING IT!!🙌🏼🤯🤘🏼#crushonyou
Awesome seeing @runthesix @dee_em_eh @marknabeta @chanelfall @g_fedex @datfunksoulbrotha @suzy.prosser @paddybirch @rosearciero @runcarmyrun @mellyruns @runjprun @lindalooeyes @walt42.2 @runningdesigner @jdiener26 @perczyszyn_exploring @boyreporter and everyone else pounding it out on our streets.
Also, congrats to work pal @shannon_theceliactriathlete on her first half marathon! Always good to nail the first one out on home turf.🇨🇦

2018 Toronto Scotiabank Half Marathon complete! Was so honored to run and pace these 2 incredible ladies today. This was a "B" race for me and was a fantastic training run. It was a cold one; but the course was phenomenal and the energy coming from the crowds was world class. With over 10,000 runners in the Half Marathon alone, this was indeed a beautiful experience. Canada's own Cam Levins made history today, shattering the Canadian record in the Marathon in 2:09:25. It was an incredible experience seeing the elites execute.
Day not done though! Getting through a quick 4 hr shift and then doing pad work. Grateful every day for the opportunity to be an athlete; and to honor and support this body we are given. @distantwanders
Amazing day at the Scotiabank Marathon today. The day started off perfect. Relaxed and ready! Arrived at the race village, aka City Hall just in time to meetup with @runthesix and his group. Thanks Jonathan! Then I made myself over to the green race corral. I didn’t have any real race goals but I knew the cooler temperatures would work in my favour. I started out at a comfortable race pace and just kept going. When my second 5km was a negative split, I knew I was feeling strong. Once I passed the 11k mark, I was on the mark to get some kind of personal best for this race. It was really just a matter of getting to the finish and not losing pace. Everything kept together until the last 2km where my feet started to get a little heavy. It wasn’t going to hold me back from a PR because I knew I’d still get one at that point. I ended up finishing with a 2:06 and change. My best for this race was 2:10 in 2016. I just realized this race is the anniversary of my very first half marathon 10 years ago at Scotia. That dismal 2:47 performance seems so far away from me now. Just an awesome day all around. I mean, if I can squeeze out a race PR at this age, I’m over the moon. 🌙 #run#running#runner#inknburn#inknburnalumni#stwm#torontorunstogether#newbalance @newbalancecanada #toronto#scotiabankwaterfrontmarathon#runhappy#irun#canadianrunning#runnersofinstagram#halfmarathon#personalbest#getoutthere
3:53:01, a (ahem) 42 minute PB. That number itself isn’t impressive- it just shows you how undertrained I was in my last marathons. This was the difference from having a training cycle that wasn’t complete crap.
That said, it wasn’t easy- at all. I’d rank it as my most challenging effort to date. I had planned to go out with the 3:50 pace bunny, so as not to go out too quickly, but I soon grew frustrated by the inconstant pace in the first kms. So, I started doing my own thing- and of course going way too fast, not far off my best half pace. I’m pretty impressed with how long I managed at this pace- it was about 25k before I started hanging on for dear life. It wasn’t a “don’t slow down” thing- it was “don’t slow down too much.” There was a lot of mental math figuring out what paces would get what finishing times.
The last ~8k were agony- I was still running (mostly- there were a few walk breaks, but I kept them brief) and my legs weren’t cramping, just very tired. It was a mental battle to keep running as fast as I possibly could.
Still, knowing that I was finally going to get a sub-4 marathon- something all my times in other distances indicated was well within my grasp- kept me moving forward, and knowing that I can take a break from marathons (for now) after ending on a good note was also an incentive. I could barely move my legs and felt on the verge of collapse when I crossed the line, but I can say I gave it my all and hold my head high. This year, I actually took advantage of the post-race photo op, and while I looked rough, I wasn’t crying, either.
Thanks to everyone who had a kind word of support!
Yup. I started including #sundayrunday into my weekly routine, which is something I wasn't sure I'd be able to do until recently, due to a health issue. At first, I hated it. But that morning run is glorious once you get off your ass. I am now part of the psychopathic bunch who workout instead of lounging in pjs on weekends. Like normal people.
Second postpartum race in the bag! 🙌🏻 Overall, felt pretty strong but went into the race not expecting to PR. Ended up with a new 5K PR of 24:29.4 - 0.6 secs faster than my old PR. And 10th in my age group! I’ll take it! 😂 Felt like I had a bit left in the tank at the end so next time I really have to go all out in the last km. Still, I’m so happy that I’m starting to see a consistent sub-5 min/km race pace! Never would I have imagined being where I am now at just under #3monthspostpartum ! Thank you again to @runcrs for a great event and for the race entry! ❤️Shout out to @variations.ofheather for killing it in her 5k! So nice to see you at the start and finish. 😊💕 Thank you to my mini cheer squad @jonnyrunderful and Lily for coming out to support me. 😘 #stwm#stwm2018#5k#torontorunstogether
Today was a great day! 5k + 21k double complete!
Saw so many friends out running, pacing and supporting all of the 25,000 runners today! Especially my homies at @portland_runners at the 20km mark cheering us on! Thank you!
Thank you to @niketoronto & @marknabeta for giving us an opportunity to start our crew out of Portland Street! Y'all the real MVP!
Started the 5k off with @ronny006 freezing our 🌰🌰 off because it was -4 degrees in the AM but we stuck to a conservative pace since we knew we still had a half marathon after this race.
We finished right under our personal time goal for a sub 20 minute 5k, and quickly jogged back to the bag check to change and do it all over again 😅.
We had 25 minutes until the next race! 😝
Since we were warm, we changed right in the middle of the street at bag check and slapped our half marathon outfits and bibs on and went to the meeting spot for the pacing team.
We waited 15 minutes with about 5 minutes until the half would start - Couldn't find them, so we decided to run to the 1:40 pacer corrale in case they were in there already.
Met with @jiangjade crushing her first 10k ( I'm sure she set a 10k PB) and ran a little a head since she was confident in running with the 3:20 marathon pacer.
A little while later, we ran into @thejakemossop @k19gallo @roopruns crushing the half speeding by and we said we'll see them later as we didn't want to leave anyone behind in case they decided to join our pacing.
At around 14k, we saw Jade and @cmasssi hovering at 4:45 pace and said they needed a hand - so we paced them through until the finish and was so happy to see everyone at the 20km mark cheering their hearts out! Thank you!
With about 1k left to go , I told Jade to give it all she's got as she was coming close to missing her sub 1:40 goal. She gave everything in the tank and came in so close at 1:40:12! She set a new 2 minute PB and crushed it! .
The feeling running with friends vs. running by yourself does not compare! Amazing experiences were had today!
Congrats to all the homies @rundigsleep @anthonylam85 @dave.runs @thejakemossop @ohsowong @jesse.jpeg @gsyh and many others!
Lace up and let’s go! Race day is here. Raising funds for the @YWCATORONTO as part of the #ScotiabankCharityChallenge has given a new drive to my training and race plan. Gratitude for this city and the support that is available because of the money raised through this race. Help me raise funds here: http://bit.ly/CatchingHeather

🇨🇦 More of these beautiful autumn colors please! I took it all in during my long morning run with @mile2marathon yesterday because you know that this weather and those bright colors won't last forever 💚💛🧡🍃🍂🍁. Also, this was the last 20K+ workout of #marathontraining 😮. Feels weird.
🇫🇷 Non mais regardez-moi ces couleurs 🧡. Dernière sortie de plus de 20km de la #prepamarathon , c'est que ça se rapproche tout ça! ...ça me ferait presque un peu stresser didonc 😅. C'est bizarre, se préparer pour ce type d'
So grateful for @aallenmiller and @marathon.momma.11 who dragged my 🍑 through the @freepmarathon half today. I haven’t really run in like 6 weeks and my quads reminded me of that for most of the 2nd half of the race. Don’t know how I hung with these two after mile 10, but fun to run with them.
Haven’t been in this much trouble after a half in quite awhile. Give me all the ice baths and naps.
Funny story. Originally tomorrow’s race was supposed to be my first postpartum race when I registered back in the summer. At the time I had no idea how I’d be feeling by October. For all I knew, I would barely be able to run a 5k at just under #3monthspostpartum . Fast forward to September: I was feeling surprisingly great and itching to race, so I signed up for the Run for Vaughan.
Although tomorrow will now be my 2nd postpartum race, it’s still an important race. I’m proud that I’ve already come this far and able to race a 5k at this point in my postpartum journey. I may be a little battered still from my fall a few days ago but that won’t stop me from giving it my all tomorrow. 💪🏻
Special shoutout to @runcrs for reaching out to me back in June and setting me up with one of my early postpartum races! Greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻❤️
P.S. I was tempted to rock my wounds for the race photos tomorrow but the face is still a little raw. 🤕As a compromise, I will be rocking a Hello Kitty bandaid courtesy of @jonnyrunderful 😝 #HelloKittyWarrior#stwm#stwm2018#5k#torontorunstogether

Couldn’t resist heading to the #STWM expo this morning to pick out one of the designs for custom printing, by friend @rkuchinsky. Made a great choice with this @newbalance striped running tank. Looks AMAZING!🙌🏼😄❤️🇨🇦
I have my signs all ready for cheering on friends & strangers racing tomorrow. Good luck all!

I don’t think this ever gets easier. Dream a dream, achieve a goal, get that PB and dream an even bigger dream, forever taunted and tempted by future memories.
Busy this evening with a birthday dinner out (because that’s what you should be doing the night before a marathon!!1! I’ve pre-warned everyone that I can’t stay late and won’t be taking advantage of the AYCE menu) so I had to pick out my outfit this afternoon. I’ve raced in several events in similar temperatures and was fine in shorts. I’m 99% sure this will be the top I wear; it has a zippered pouch in the front so I won’t have to fumble around getting gels and can put my sunglasses in if I don’t need them. After much debate I settled on my Wave Riders just because I feel more confident they’ll be better over long distances (Launch 5, I’ll see you at the Tannenbaum). I could be wrong, but fortunately, it’s a purely psychological choice- I can only wish I was fast enough that an ~ounce made a difference in my speed.
I’m pretty nervous, but I’m equally ready to be done with marathons for a bit. It’ll be my third, and hopefully the one that will make me more comfortable describing myself as a marathoner, but ultimately I’m far more content just saying I’m a runner. My identity as such isn’t tied up in a distance.
75 pairs of runners going to a new home thanks to you 💜
#TribeLove to everyone who dropped off their shoes this week leading up to @runcrs #STWM . It’s not to late if you’re running Sunday. Bring them to @tomconant at the expo 🙌
Training Day # 1.Training for Tokyo officially begins today. T- 19 weeks till I get to do my 1st official World Majors Marathon.
Total 12ish easy going miles before 9 AM. (forgot to re-start my Garmin after .8 miles into the run).
Long run with some great company. 8ish miles before WRC; then 3.1 miles with @winnipegrunclub. .....
Not gonna lie; I'm tired after that long run. This will be my first time training for a FULL. And while I've done a lot of half marathons, a FULL is a different beast. So hats off to the full marathoners running a minimum half marathon distance each week.
And I'm excited to join the FULL bandwagon. Looks like I'm gonna be a regular for the uber early runs on weekends. Cheers to #runnershirlztrainstokyo . its gonna be a fun ride; so feel free to join along the journey.
Sidenote- Training without music is gonna be fun when you have awesome conversations while running with run friends!
