This was the inspiration sketch for Out In The Open No. 2.
Sketching things prior to making them was a huge change from my normal 'lets just see how this goes' approach. Which worked but it was way more fun exploring first and then pulling all the elements together for the final piece.
Beginning to build layers. I like to start with simple shapes. They feel safe. And once I feel safe I can take risks and play. It’s a bit of a palette cleanser from the powerful reds pinks and violets of late... But who knows where they’ll go... I don’t... #workinprogress#studioprocess
“Lovely grand.” So much has been learnt on a ten day road trip in Newfoundland, not the least, that expression. The whole experience has a special place in my heart and I know it will show up in my work. I look forward to sharing it with you. #alifeinpainting
The artist usually decides if he knows and feels when to stop but I would like to have more points of view for this particular abruptly emerging face . Could be finished this one?
I’ve been making a lot of small drawings/paintings lately. Usually I’m quite the perfectionist. But it makes a difference when you create something everyday with the intent of it not being ‘perfect’. 🌸
Well, that was fun. 🌟
A full weekend at @addressassembly meeting the Vancouver Thrive ladies was incredible. You all are so talented and kind, Thrive is a really special group 💕 thank you all for having me! 📷 @bright_photo
Michelle Shook is predominantly inspired by nature. She loves painting landscapes, and flowers, birds and various other subject matter from the natural world. Since she has been living in an urban setting for many years, Michelle is also inspired by nature in contrast with an urban setting. She paints bicycles or telephone wires against a breathtaking sky, views of Lake Ontario or other cityscapes. The artists that have inspired her are The Group of Seven, Georgia O’Keefe, Emily Carr, Frida Kahlo and Van Gogh to name a few. And of course, she remains inspired by the local artists that she grew up admiring in the Perth area!
Come see Michelle at stop 6 with Rita Redner.
“trapped by my own existence” (4 x 3’ acrylic and mixed media on canvas) •••• just when i thought i was back on the right mental track after moving into a new apartment and finding a new job, I managed to set myself back further by falling down a flight of stairs giving myself a fractured skull and a concussion. September hasn’t been any easier than the struggle through August, but on the bright side October is my birthday month and I’m planning on having an art opening party at my new place for anyone who wants to come see my paintings in person and/or party hard. I’ll have more details in a week or two 🤘
