Camp Castaway was established on January 3, 1852 by the survivors of the wreck of the Captain Lincoln, a U.S. transport schooner probably about 150 feet (46 m) long and 34 feet (10 m) wide, with a draft of 9-10 feet (3 m). On December 28, 1851, the Captain Lincoln departed San Francisco Bay and set sail for Port Orford on Oregon’s south coast to reinforce a group of settlers with soldiers and food to fight Native Americans at Battle Rock. The plan was for the schooner to eventually sail hundreds of miles farther north and deliver the remaining cargo to Fort Steilacoom on Puget Sound near present-day Tacoma. There were 45 people aboard including a crew of 8, plus 35 troopers of Company C, First Dragoons, and 2 officers. However, almost immediately the ship began taking on water as it beat its way north along the coast through fierce winter storms.
Pretending to be pirates, throwing rocks into the lake, burying our feet and hands in sand, hot tubbing, and exploring are just SOME of the fun things Savona did today at "camp." Perks of having a daddy who plays music 🎶. (he's leading worship at the youth retreat that we're at) #savonabelle
YoungLife camp at Camp Castaway this weekend with the Southside crew was on point. These teenagers are incredibly passionate and hilarious-- never a dull moment. Oh-- and straight up model status on a dime. ✨💞🔥 #yl#campcastaway

Working for the jordan ymca has helped me make bonds with people I never thought I would. I hung out with Darrion last week and we had a good time and saw our #gybefam wes Stowers play for Marian College and help their team in a dominating win. It is a pleasure and an honor to be a part of this young man's journey. I feel like we have been together a lot through #ncyounglife and #campcastaway and the #jordanymca . He has been through a lot at a young age and still leads an honorable life through his commitment to school god his family and his own personal strength. He left me hanging cold on the bleachers by myself because I was "doing too much" for him lol, but I was just glad to enjoy good company of good people and see my first live college basketball game in 3 years lol. Proud to know Darrion and I know life will bring him lots of good things as long as he stays true to god and his calling
