2011 was the last time it snowed in our town. Mike Byrne captures it here in this photo. It hangs on the back wall in one of my favorite haunts. A little diner, Kristys. Mostly it doesn’t get much attention. It’s faded over time, but today the sun was going down and moved across this wall in a way that really focused attention to the picture. You can see how light changed in just over an hours time. You know “they say”, change is good.
In my case that’s an understatement.
Yes I’m a California gal, okay Dutch by descent, but our move to Grapevine Texas has been super positive.
Our marriage is stronger and the teamwork what has come out of this move is evident.
Growing up in Holland, I always wanted a pony or a house with a pool.
I don’t know what it is with the house with the pool, but the flowing water is so calming and the energy what comes from the water is just so happy and positive.
Part of our agreement was that I would be in charge of cleaning our pool and that’s exactly what I did, after taking this picture.
I enjoyed it and John even helped with the heavy stuff.

What was your dream growing up?
I was so skeptical that home workouts would not work for me…
I used to spend 60-120 mins at the gym EVERYDAY and I still did not get the results I wanted… I was ready to give up!!!

I’m so excited for my new fitness group as well as enjoy all my followers so I decided it’s time for 10 things you don’t know about me! .
1. I’m a twin! Yes... he looks like me but we are fraternal twins 👫
2. I was born in Johannesburg, South African 🇿🇦and immigrated to California when I was 7 years old.
3. I still have a South African accent when I speak to my family or cousins and I’m good at hiding it too 🙃
4. I went to UCSD for undergrad and then went to medical school in the Caribbean. 🐠🌴🌊
5. I’m very family oriented and enjoy spending time with my family.
6. I’ve ran the NYC Marathon x3
7. I am the worst swimmer but love beach vacations 🏖
8. I’ve never eaten a bagel with cream cheese. 🙈
9. My favorite snack is mixed trail mix.
10. I’ve always grown up with a dog 🐶 living with us.
ARE YOU READY FOR THE WINTER?! ❄️
This morning I had my sneakers 👟 on and as I walked out the door, a severe cold wind blew in my face. It was 45 degrees outside with some harsh winds. Immediately, I thought to myself “how can I go running in this cold weather?!” I wanted to immediately give up on the run and get back into bed as I was so cold. But instead I thought about it again and said, I’m not giving up. I have to go on this run. So I went back inside and grabbed a jacket and dashed out for my run! .
As a Cali gal, I’ve never lived in winters of less than 60 degree weather so this is a major change for me. Every year, I give myself a pep talk and tell myself “I’M NOT LETTING THIS WINTER GET THE BEST OF ME!!! I’m going to STAY FIT, still work out and be CONSISTENT NO MATTER what the winter conditions are!” The idea of gyms closing “before the snow storm hits” or running on black ice are all foreign concepts to me. So every year I’ve had to think of ways to overcome the winter and still be able to achieve my fitness goals. For this winter, I’m excited because I now have a GREAT and SIMPLE SOLUTION to staying on track as I have this workout program which allows me the flexibility to not worry about closed gyms or running on black ice and getting injured. .

ARE YOU READY FOR THE WEEKEND?!? I always get so excited for the weekend as it’s a time to enjoy life even more, relax and do things that make me happy! I enjoy exercising and fitness as it’s part of my lifestyle but I do use my “cheat day” on the weekend. I feel the “cheat day” allows me to still have fun, go out with friends and family without worrying about counting food groups or worrying about my nutrition. It allows me to treat myself and enjoy the yummy unhealthy foods 🍨🌮🍰🍷I have been wanting to eat. .
No one is perfect and no one will always eat healthy 100% of the time. But studies show that one is more likely to stay on track and make progress with obtaining those incredible results if he allows himself to have that one “cheat day” rather than trying to be strict 100% of the time. .
