To tare or not to tare, that is the question.
When buying bulk foods, seasoning and spices are the only items I have the cashier tare my bag weight for. Otherwise those spices get pretty expensive.
With most bulk food items, like pasta or rice, the difference in tared weight is nominal, usually less than 20 cents. And I still save a lot compared to when I was buying packaged food. Why pay for packaging that just ends up in landfill? It seems ridiculous now.
My hope is that the more profit supermarkets receive from selling bulk food, the more bulk food options they will provide. That gives me hope. And that's why I'm not super concerned with taring the weight of my cotton produce bags. Unless it's spices. Because that gets pricy.
Of course if you do tare, that's totally understandable. Money is money. Personally, it was stressing me out when the majority of cashiers had no idea what taring even meant, so I gave up for my own sanity.
Bowls full of veggies 🌱 , sprouted chickpeas and THAT dressing. Lunch today was actually pizza 🍕 (see my stories!) but this was yesterday and the kind of bowl we live on! Search tahini dressing on the blog to find the dressing we (and you!) love - and you can sub any nut or seed butter for tahini depending on what you have! This is made with homemade sunbutter - I throw the other ingredients in the blender right after I’ve made batch of nut butter #easy#realfood ☀️
As more people are now making their purchases of our bulk products in reusable containers we are putting a call out for any surplus jars to add to our jar and bottle library.
These will be available for customers to use any time they are needed.
New product/new obsession: YUMMY BEANS 💫✨⚡️
A deliciously crunchy blend of spices, nuts, seeds, legumes and shiitake mushrooms (no doubt the star of the show). The perfect protein-packed snack or salad/soup topping. Have you tried it ??⚡️⚡️⚡️
Hey lovelies.. restock tonight at 7:30PM EST - or sign up to the mailing list on my website for early access at 6:30PM - a great idea if you're keen to make a piece yours as I literally have always sold out during the early period so far! I have a little lot of moon inspired and minimalist reusable coffee cups available tonight (I won't be doing these for too much longer either guys!) and a couple of hand carved pieces like this little leafy cheese platter.. it's actually slightly scary sharing these ones with you guys! When I make cups and other things decorated with glaze or patterns, it feels a little more like a 'product' at the end but when I sit there in the sunshine and hand paint and carve images, it feels a lot more like art ✨ this is definately the direction I want to move towards in the future.. a little more art and less product.. I hope you guys love them! It feels like I'm sharing a little part of myself with you guys 😘 this is a sneak peak, a few pieces like this are available tonight! Jump on the list and check your emails at 6:30 on the dot hehe! Love and sunshine 😘 xo Sally
____ HAPPY SUNDAY. It’s so close to Spring and the flowers in my garden are starting to bloom and the bees are returning. JOY. 🐝
It’s incredible to think that these flowers are thriving on the compost I made from kitchen scraps. I LOVE composting. It cuts your household waste in half, you don’t need a bin liner, and you’re enriching soil instead of producing deadly greenhouse gas in landfill. 🐝
In Australia there are plenty of composting options. Ask your local council for discounts on compost bins and worm farms. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a garden, check out @sharewaste and find neighbours who’ll let you use their bin for free. Such a great idea. 🐝
If you have any composting questions, let me know below. I’m happy to help if I can. 🌿🌿🌿
The amount of trash in my city is terrifying 😬
Yesterday when I was talking to Jake he said “putting garbage in a landfill is really just an advance form of littering.” 🤯 he proceeded to tell me the ideas he has on how we can continue to reduce our waste. He was speaking my love language 😍
ANYWAYS, one of my favorite non-profits, @younglivingfoundation, is doing a giveaway for people doing random acts of kindness! So this is my documentation of cleaning up litter in my neighborhood!
While it is great that there are incentives to do random good things, I hope you are motivated to do good things when no one sees 🤗 #shareyourheart
Playing with new methods. Gosh I love simplicity. I rolled out a lump of clay on my kitchen table, with a beautiful antique french rolling pin. I cut out shapes intuitively and let them dry in the sunshine, then smoothed the edges with a sponge. So simple yet so lovely. They have been glazed and are currently in the kiln, can't wait to show you what I did with them 😘✨

Did you know Tigernuts are not actually nuts? They are in fact a tuber! These little tubers are packed full of nutrients, rich in fibre, high in prebiotics, and a wonderful calcium source.
Awesome food for gut health the Tigernut improves insulin sensitivity, lowers blood sugar levels and aids in balancing issues of the bowels (ie keeps you healthy and regular!).
Great to snack on as they are or do as the Spanish do and make Horchata (a nutritious tigernut mylk drink).
Try some today!

Went for a nice walk this morning and stopped off for some bulk items! Peanuts for peanut butter (I eat way too much), dates because I want to incorporate more, apricots are amazing to snack on, and decaf vanilla hazelnut coffee (I rarely drink coffee now as the caffeine makes me feel sick, but decaf every once in a while is amazing).
All you gotta do is bring your containers in (I use organic cotton bags whenever I can because it’s so much easier than a bunch of jars) and get them weighed before filling. I have the weight marked permanently on all my bags, but the jar was new so they had to sticker it.
