I haven't grown any head lettuce in a couple years because normally the bugs or slugs chew on it and it's ugly. I have better luck with leaf lettuce and usually grow a half dozen varieties. This year, I grew a few heads of Buttercrunch Bibb lettuce from seed and it's totally beautiful. I wish I had grown more! #lettuce#prettyplants#buttercrunch#bugsandslugs#nospray#gardening
Our friendly, native banana slug checks me out with its antennae-like eye stalks. I confess that I get a little squeamish about these slimy creatures but I definitely appreciate them when I see them chowing down on chicken poop and dead mice and other unpleasant things that show up around here.
A natural example of leadership and teamwork at the Whyalla campus this week! These guys have been spotted all over the car park! Our friends from Bugsnslugs tell us that they are ‘Processionary Caterpillars’ on their way to find a spot to pupate! Or perhaps they are preparing for our Graduation Ceremony happening in May! Advise not to touch them as they sting! #unisa#bugsandslugs
Children’s interests and fascinations are the primary vehicle for immediate, complex, comprehensive, and sustained learning. What emerges from each child becomes the curriculum. What emerges from each learning group are also opportunities for focus on real issues that have meaning for the children. .
The heart of our program is both relationships that are respectful, trusting, collaborative, caring, and gentle and individual and group interests and fascinations that are pursued with enthusiasm. Teachers skillfully facilitate explorations of children’s interests and carefully introduce provocations only when necessary to stimulate additional investigations and promote a wide range of expressions that can also lead to developing new interests and further explorations.

A few weeks ago (when it was weirdly, warm Autumn), we found this beautiful, clever mum & her egg sacks hiding in a leaf protected from the elements. What a good idea! Then we found a more menacing red back under a toy car, with her egg sacks. Turns out there were about 13 redbacks living there. Squash, spray or relocate? Come to the fair and see #bugsandslugs they'll answer any bug or slug questions you may have #natureandbeyond#instagood#photooftheday#love#june3and4#getyourselfthere 🐞🕷🐌
We're tackling some of our internal bugs and slugs in Five A Day today: here are some I've noticed and gently led away from my mind so far this morning: you're a failure because your house is a mess, you're weak - everyone else in this yoga class is better than you, you shouldn't be taking time for yourself when there is so much to be done, what will they think of me?, your belly is too big... And so on and so on. Just noticing the thought as it happens is the first thing, then pausing to question if it needs to be there (some bugs have a useful role in the right place at the right time...) and if it doesn't (and all of those didn't!) then gently moving it away from my head like spraying a greenfly off a new rose stem with soapy water (that's what my daughter's doing here...) Sending you love for whatever bug-battling you need to do today xx #Storyofmum5#selfcare#bugsandslugs#storyofmum#daughter#yellow#gardening
