I tried to avoid this today. Not because I didn’t want to celebrate your life, but because there would be no response from the only person I want to see this- you. No, “Wow, Jess, you’re my favorite.” Even though you said that to every one of your grandkids. You were a funny woman. I get my humor from you. I went to the gym and listened to your favorite music as I ran the way you used to. I lifted weights in attempts to make my spirit stronger today. I’ve laughed a few times, I guess, but really all I want is to hear you laugh, to feel you pull my hair when I say something smart to my mother, to feel your hand in mine, warm and alive. But you just live in my mind now, and on my dresser and in the albums on my closet shelf, and on my fridge, and in my prose. You live in my younger sister’s recollections of holidays and what it felt like to live with you as kids... how being raised by you changed us. I’d rather that than nothing though. I love you, and I swear I’ve never stopped wanting you back.
If there’s a clique up there for people with Pancreatic Cancer, I hope you know Aretha Franklin is coming. I’m sure you two will be great friends. #Queen#Bubbles#arethafranklin#pancreaticcancer#haircaretips#rose2bubbles#mommymydearest
