My take on a traditional Caledonian Pictish Tattoo - will turn this into a forearm sleeve. The Cruithne (or Pictish) were the first tattooed people on the island of Britain. When Christian missionaries came around 500AD my people put aside their culture and art. For close to 2000 years British people have forgotten their roots. Despite claims that Polynesians started tattoo culture in England upon arrival on Cooks ship, tattooing had come over thousands of years earlier from Eastern European traders / travelers. Tattooing is older than the domestication of animals. My goal is to revive Pictish style tattooing in England and around the world. This piece will be on my forearm. My next Pictish piece will be made up of designs found on the standing stones (runes). Proud to be british. My ancestors wore their tattoos proud for all to see. Celtic tattoos are very common but the Celtic were not a tribe but rather spectrum like the word “Polynesian.” There were many nations within. One of which, the Pictish, Had an extreme love for nature and the spiritual world. The meaning behind certain designs seen on stones has been entirely lost due to religious interference and banishment. It’s up to my generation to Revive these motifs. Salmon were viewed as wise and resilient creatures. They are not only worshipped in Pictish culture but also through my Norse ancestors. Loki is thought of have transformed himself into a salmon to hide from Thor. It is the scales that were seen as impenetrable armor. Time for me to get this piece as an ode to my ancestors and to protect me not only in the physical world but also the spiritual world. This design can be found on armor from Picts to the Norse/Briton Varangian Guards aka the special forces unit for the Emperor of Constantinople. Working on finding an artist who wants to do this piece is proving difficult, hopefully soon! #pictish#pictishart#scotland#britain#briton#tribal#tribalart#tribaltattoo#britishisles#salmon#fishscales#norse#viking#celtic#happy
