Lasting Marks, directed by @charlie.lyne, is premiering this week at the #bfilondonfilmfestival2018 . It's the latest film released through Postcards, a film platform supporting documentaries that push the conventions of non-fiction. All this week we'll be digging into the Postcards archive and sharing some of our favourite films.
“I’m indebted to Postcards for taking a risk on an untested idea, and giving me the freedom to make it the best version of itself it could be. It’s a rare pleasure to have others put so much faith in something so unorthodox.” - Charlie Lyne, Director
Lasting Marks is showing at the BFI on Saturday 20th October / 12:30 at the Odeon Tottenham Court Road in the Competition Shorts
Follow our Instagram stories from tomorrow to hear more from Charlie about this intriguing and challenging film and the process behind its creation.
So there are about 100 reasons I love Paddington (look at that cast, mate) but the main reason is how inventive the cinematography is.
When Paddington arrives in London, something as simple as a radiator is shot in a way that is heavily subjective - not allowing the subject to be recognisable for a few seconds. For something this recognisable to be rendered strange and magical displays amazing filmmaking skill.
Also instead of the simple, normal way of shooting a conversation between someone looking out a window and someone on the ground, the pans up avoid the need to cut and create a boring rhythm and, once again, give the subjective view of the character finding out who is talking to them.
I love this creativity - the thought that goes into associating the viewer and the character which makes the sweet and wholesome comedy all the funnier.
Give this movie a love that out of ten.
Showing Tonight, 15 October 8.15pm: Vertigo! All Power to the Imagination⠀
On the occasion of Vertigo magazine's 25th anniversary we're thrilled to host this celebratory event featuring a very special guest appearance from Andrew Kötting.⠀
Founded in 1993 by the late Marc Karlin and a collective of key independent film-makers, thinkers, writers and activists associated with the golden age of the early radical Channel 4, Vertigo magazine established itself as a key reference for the discussion of film culture and history. It offered a diverse range of critical views, committed to inspire and engage with audiences, academics and practitioners alike, featuring essays, interviews, discussions, portfolios, scripts and hybrid work. Underpinned by a strong sense of internationalism and committed to innovative and imaginative film across genres, Vertigo existed in print until 2009.⠀
Now, as London property pressures grow ever more absolute, it is time to circulate the last remaining print copies of this beloved and influential publication to those honourable audience members and readers who value and require them. Everyone attending this evening's event will receive free as complete a set of the entire print run as exists, as well as the opportunity to purchase the remarkable 300 page, fully illustrated publication Look Again, on the life and work of Marc Karlin, at a significantly reduced price.⠀
The evening is hosted by Gareth Evans, Vertigo co-editor 2002-2009, and includes three short films made by Marc Karlin from 1985-1998.⠀

SEIFF is delighted to invite you to a screening and discussion with Surrey's very own Liam Harris, director of animated short film Perched.
Nominated for Best Animated Film, Best Student Film, and Best Surrey Film, Perched is a masterpiece in storytelling using pencil and paper. Hamish Fint, a crotchety old man used to a life of seclusion inside his submarine balanced precariously atop a mountain, struggles to maintain equilibrium when an unwelcome visiting seagull rocks his world.
The screening and Q&A event with Liam is being held at @epsomsquare_ from 10-10:45am on Sunday 28th October. Tickets are only £5, so get them from the link in our bio before they sell out! 🎬 #SEIFF
#repost from @simonbowlesdesign
A quiet beautiful wilderness location on the outskirts of #London where we built one of the many round houses for our #Centurion movie (2010). As scenes inside this particular dwelling were scripted I built this one for real so we could follow the action seamlessly from exterior to interior. All materials were sourced from within the woodland and returned after filming. This is a movie I’m still very proud of. Written and directed by my top mate @neilmarshall_director . The astounding cast included #MichaelFassbender @davidmorrissey @olgakurylenkoofficial #ImogenPoots @rizahmed @noelclarke . @british_film_designers_guild @geordie_shockmeister @pathefilms #britishfilm#productiondesign#thatching @geordie_shockmeister #wilderness
