Your posture is important. It has a huge impact on how your body feels and functions. Posture isn’t simply about sitting up straight, it’s how you carry your body while sitting, standing, exercising and moving about.
Good posture isn’t just for the aesthetic appeal…although it does make your feel more confident…good posture equally distributes the force of gravity throughout your body so as not to over-stress one particular area or joint.
Although it is important to focus on "sitting up straight", unfortunately it really isn't as simple as that. Stress and tension slowly builds and accumulates in your spine from everyday activities: mom duties (breast feeding, carrying our little ones-and not so little ones), sitting too long, crossing our legs, lack of activity, stress, pregnancy etc. When we have too much tension in our spine it limits our ability to actually "straighten-up" and sometimes it can feel uncomfortable.
What's the solution? Go see a chiropractor! Chiropractic care focuses on removing tension from your spine and in turn your body. Sometimes putting your heart over above your head is just what you need to feel better! Inversions can be a great pick me up and have power to change your mood! 🌈☀️💙
Why? Well, when inverting we are literally turning the body upside down which reverses the blood flow. New fresh blood is pumped into the brain and overall circulation improves. When blood circulation gets fine, this releases neurotransmitters, balancing the hormones which make you feel light hearted and more happy than usual 😁✌️⭐️
At the same time, as inversions require concentrations and calm mind, they draw your attention inwards, allowing you to ground to the mat and centre yourself ultimately making you feel more relaxed and again more happy 😊 .
Bud don’t worry if flipping upside down is something that you still work on. You don’t have to do all fancy headstand to boost your mood! Inversions refer to all postures where heart is above head so simple asanas like simple forward bend, child’s pose, downward-facing dog, dolphin pose or legs-up-the-wall (my absolute favourite!) can be practiced to tap into the benefits of inversions! Try a simple inversion today and notice the difference in your mood!.

I’m very lucky this year to be spending winter soaking up all the sun 🌞 in India 🇮🇳 and Thailand 🇹🇭 but normally at this time of the year I often get what I call a mild “seasonal depression”... When there is no much of the sunshine out there and we have a lot of rainy and windy days ☔️ 🌨💨 in England I often want to hybernate inside, and find myself feeling uninspired and sluggish. So to beat these “winter blues” I love to include more backbends in my practice. Backbends are great because they really work with opening of the heart centre and by doing so we are able to bring lots of new oxygenated air into the lungs which uplifts us with a new energy! 🙌
This dancer pose is one of those asanas that straight away cheers me up and makes me more energised!
It also makes me feel elegant and takes me to a happy place. Ps. Practicing in colourful pants can magnify the results!! 😁
