Not much happened today...really not much happened this weekend! I’ve just been getting everything prepped and ready for our roadtrip!
We did go to the archery shop to repair Jason’s dads bow...I didn’t think about it then but I should have taken some video for y’all! I was a little out of it today.
We started the morning with GF/DF pancakes 🥞 & over easy eggs 🍳. I got to hang out with the pups a bunch today...as Jason’s nephew Chris says...some R & R with Mar. 😆 Get it?! Ruca and Riley with Mar?! 🙄🤷♀️🤣💕🐾
Ended the night with a plate full of veggies and one Italian sausage for dinner, chocolate bone broth with marshmallows for dessert, and a little bit of Bleach to fall asleep too! Yes! I’m that nerd that enjoys anime...bleach happens to be my favorite! Oh yeah...and some more hang time with all of my pups! 😁💕🐾
Every year, the day after Friendsmas, is known as “soup day”. Today is that day. I take the carcass of the 20lb turkey, throw in some stock vedge and herbs and make “the soup”. This all gets frozen and made up again whenever anyone is sick or cold or generally needs a cup of hot, rich bone broth that year. One meal for 27 people, and 12 hours simmering on the stove, keeps us healthy and comforted all year!
Sometimes a bowl of soup that tastes this good transports me back to a memory when I was small🥣
This particular bowl made me instantly think of my first ever bowl of ‘Brodo’ in my neighbours house ‘the Moffatt’s’ in Black rock in Melbourne. I was 8 or 9.
Not only were they my favourite family but their mum was an amazing cook and her Brodo was to die for. This tasted exactly the same.
This morning before work I threw a @burrawonggaian chook in a pot, chucked in veg that were going slightly floppy in the fridge, seasoned, covered with filtered water and left it in a very low oven till we got home at 6. It is the best chicken soup I have ever made🥣

I just want to start a FB group called: “✨Raw feeders that are extra AF✨”. 😂 Just so everyone knows, not every one of Cali’s meals looks like this. We enjoy dressing it up for the gram but generally she gets a dump-&-go bowl on the weekdays. What we post doesn’t represent all the ways we balance her diet. Its just a small, well-lit and very posed fraction of her best looking meals to inspire others to look into the benefits for their pets. If you are interested in raw feeding I recommend getting a few books, or a few consultations from raw feeding canine nutritionists to find out what works best for your pet! I’m always happy to give out resources for nutritionists, books and raw feeding suppliers! Please feel free to DM with any questions ❤️

Dinners like this make me happy.
It doesn’t look overly pretty, but it’s simple and nourishing.
Meatballs with a bit of liver in there that no one even knows or cares about, cooked in gelatinous broth.
Vibrant salad with olives and walnuts and a tahini dressing.
Bursting with macro and micro nutrients, nourishing our bodies at a cellular level.
Living a predominately whole foods lifestyle is not hard or boring.
It’s simple, tasty food at its best 😍
You might think we are crazy making soup with this hot weather!!! But after a birthday weekend full of treats, chocolates, cakes and sugar, we need to have a simple and nourishing meal tonight.
Butternut pumpkin, cauliflower, mushrooms, turmeric with Buchi Beef and Bouquet Garni Bone Broth. I will add a big bunch of spinach at the end to wilt before serving. And hop in bed, need to rest. .
Walked in from a @ykfarmersmarket Board meeting and our house was full of an amazing scent. Being home all day, I hadn’t noticed how good our house smelled. Delicious bison bone broth has been simmering away all weekend 😋#bonebroth#bison#nowforsoup
I cooked a whole chicken in the crock pot today. I’m going to be #honest and say I’ve never done it before. It was SO EASY and the chicken literally fell off the bone. #freshthyme had these little chickens on sale for 0.77 per pound. I like to plan my meals around sales I find instead of picking the recipes first. I will probably freeze half the meat and use the rest for tacos or soup. Anyways. Here’s what I did:
1. Remove the special treats out of the middle of the chicken - liver, heart, etc etc (I know some people have fancy things they do with these but I haven’t explored it. Yet.)
2. Put chicken in the crock pot with a few cups of water.
3. Mix yourself up a dry rub. I used salt, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin. Rub it all over the chicken
4. Cook chicken on high for 6 hours or until you see the meat pulling away from the legs. (Or on low if you’re gone all day)
5. Shred chicken off the bones
6. DO NOT THROW OUT THE BROTH!! Drain the bits and pieces from the broth and drink it or make soup or something from it. If you cook the bones down even longer with water or the broth it will make an amazing, rich bone broth.
Bone broth has incredible benefits, one of them being rich in collagen (great for your skin!). It also helps promote gut health and boosts your immune system, along with tons of other things
Bone broth time!! Making bone broth is so simple and the benefits are amazing...I use whatever bones I have, my favorite is to mix them like turkey, chicken, beef all together and you get this amazing rich flavor that is so addictive... This is one is beef bone cause it’s what I have.... First roast your bones I roasted my at 400 for an hour this is gonna make your broth super tasty next put your bones and all the dripping from roasting them into your instant pot next sprinkle bones with apple cider vinegar now add herbs and any veg like onion celery ect then fill pot up with water... cook for 3 hours in your instant pot on high pressure.. I will post a picture tomorrow with the final product!
Bone Broth 101 .
This age-old broth has endless health benefits for the Gut, Immune System, Joints, Skin, Bones, Sleep and Mental Health! 🍖
It contains minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium and more trace minerals.
It also contains: collagen and gelatin which are rich in the amino acids:
•Glycine (used in DNA synthesis, digestion, wound healing and reducing inflammation) •Proline (aids in building healthy collagen and cartilage)
•Glutamine (important for gut and immune health, liver function, muscle building and brain health)
My latest batch of Bone Broth includes:
•Chicken bones, backs and necks •Beef Liver
•Lamb bones •Left over vegetable scraps (onion, broccoli, carrots, celery, parsnips etc.)
•2 egg shells • 1Tbsp of apple cider vinegar
•Dried Thyme, Oregano, Rosemary
I love drinking it on its own or using it to cook my vegetables and grains. You can also use it as a base for soups and sauces 😍
✨Chicken Bone Broth✨
Whenever I am starting to get sick I ALWAYS make chicken bone broth. Not only is it easy, it's delicious, and just warms the soul. Bone broth also has so many health benefits from being high in collagen to having gut healing properties. It is also perfect for some chicken noodle 🍜 soup! ⭐️Take one antibiotic free chicken, celery, onion, garlic, and any fresh herbs 🌿 of your choice ( I like parsley and a little Thyme) clean and throw into a large pot with water. You can leave the vegetables large, and garlic with peel on. In addition add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar ( such as Braggs). ⭐️Simmer an hour and a half. Remove meat from the chicken ( I remove then so the chicken meat isn't too dried out). Place the bones back into the pot with two more tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. ⭐️Simmer for another five to six hours. Season with salt and pepper to your taste.
💫Enjoy just sipping or with a delicious cup of chicken noodle. You can use the leftover chicken meat and excess vegetables from the broth. Yum! #bonebroth#bonebrothheals#holistichealth#holisticnutrition#thepoweroffood
Chicken, rice and veggie soup. A few steps but made a lot of food! I did the broth and the whole chicken in the instant pot. I cooked the leftover bones I had for 2 hours with a little apple cider vinegar for the broth. For the chicken I cooked it plain with just a cup of water in the bottom for 35 mins. This was a first for me. It looked terrible but it was super easy to pick bc it was so tender. It was perfect for this use or if making chicken salad or something. I cooked the rice separately. Next, I got my big pot and put some olive oil in and sautéed carrots and onions. Added the broth, chopped chicken and simmered for a few. Added rice and frozen chopped spinach and kale mix. Season with salt and pepper. #instantpot#bonebroth#guthealing#boostyourimmunesystem#nutrientdense#satisfyingmeal#glutenfree
Soup Sunday... awwww the perfect antidote to the holiday hustle. This is our Rustic Vegetable Soup (available on our website) made with our Just Chicken Bone Broth, @bloomsburyfarm kale, @delvinfarms sweet potatoes, diced tomatoes and Italian herbs & spices. Wonderful on its own our with a little Italian sausage! 💫💫💫💫
This is what the end of my Self-Care Sunday looks like 😆; Face mask on. Bone broth complete. Rinsing & loving my broccoli sprouts @foundmyfitness . And doing it all while drink one of my favorite beers @unfilteredbrewing.
All about the balance 🥦 🍺 😆
Sundays should be sacred. Rejuvenating. Healing. Empowering
We spend the entire week dragging ourselves on, from meeting to office to class to obligation. Then we spend our weekends fulfilling other check-marks.. This Christmas event, that errand. Other things that just add to our never-ending to-do list.
I want you to think about how you spent your weekend. Does it fulfill you? Or just leave you feeling more exhausted?
Self-Care = Self-Love
I love ya!
I’ve been doing some research.
There’s a lot of anecdotal evidence on the wonders of bone broth, several homeopathic and naturopathic doctors and specialists who truly believe in its “benefits”, have made it part of the GAPS protocol because of its “ability to heal and seal the gut lining”, and people who have changed nothing but started to drink this “liquid gold” and have healed themselves of several ailments and chronic diseases.
The earliest clinical study* done in 1934 that simmered organic bones for a few hours that contradict these benefits and even say there is a chance this could increase lead ingestion and the mineral and nutrient composition is not what others claim it to be and say it could actually be dangerous.
Hmmmmmm...I call bullshit.🤔🐂💩
I realize there is a risk to everything. But I believe there is a greater risk in doing nothing, trying nothing and believing that the healthcare system and the pharmaceutical companies are the savior and answer to all ailments and chronic illness.
IMO, they are not. •
So depending on what you want to believe...real people with real results whose symptoms diminish or all but vanish (and I know a few personally) and these people feel better than they have in years OR the industry backed clinical studies.
Benefits (anecdotal and actual findings) of bone broth include but are not limited to...
• Healing a leaky gut
• Helps your liver detox
• Reduces inflammation
• Helps joint and muscle pain
• Fights infections
• Increases mineral consumption
• Helps digestion
• Smooths skin
• Helps repair and grow bones
• Promotes good sleep
I’ve started to experience some of these benefits myself, and will continue incorporating a cup of daily broth with a few add ins to increase the level of my health and optimize my wellness.
But hey, what the fuck do I know? I don’t have a medical degree. I’m not a nutritionist. I’m just a regular guy trying to figure out how to optimize my body and my life and take steps that I believe will help me achieve my goals by reading, listening and trying these recommendations myself to see how they work for me and my body.
Mexican Chicken Mole Recipe with Dark Chocolate by Wandercooks. First simple chocolate mole recipe on Google that looked like I could make it. I didn't have oregano, dried chili or onions. I used ancho chili powder and avocado oil too. Thick chicken breast was the same cooking time as the bone-in chicken in the recipe.
It was amazing but may have to do the super complicated 100 type of chili version someday that takes at least a day to make.
I cooked the rice in my broth and over microwaved the green beans. But I liked my presentation attempt. Someday I will make a low carb version when I'm confident with getting the flavor right. I made it gluten free.
