“You’re vegan? But where do you get your protein from? “
This is a common question I’m asked, usually at the gym, and 9 times out of 10 I feel like asking it straight back to them (the 1/10 time I don’t is if they look like they’ll take it personally & bop me over the head with a dumbbell 😬). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is your protein sitting alongside molecules shown to be protective & improve cell health or molecules shown to be pathogenic & chronic disease causing?
The foods on the left hand side ( the animal foods plate), whether organic/grass fed or not, contain all of the pathogenic molecules listed below and many more which cause oxidative stress on the body, inflammation, rapid cellular proliferation, insulin resistance & promote chronic diseases like kidney disease, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease & various cancers. Whereas the foods on the right hand side (plant based plate) contain protective molecules which promote cell health, reduced inflammation, reduced free radical cell damage & reduce the chances of developing the chronic diseases above. In short the protein on the left hand side comes with molecules that promote disease and on the right hand side the protein comes with molecules that promote longevity.
So as I’m sure you can see the real question here is not “where do you get your protein”,
as adequate protein can be found in either an animal or plant based diet, but should be “what’s sitting alongside your protein & coming for the ride when you consume it?”.
Some of you may be thinking “but carnitine is a common body builders supplement?”. That’s true and yes it does have some research to support it for promoting athletic performance BUT there are many studies showing that high carnitine (and choline) which is converted to a molecule called TMAO promotes inflammation pathways & clogging of the arteries (atherosclerosis)..ultimately causing heart disease. Not everything thats good for ‘gym gains’ is healthy & safe - worth keeping in mind.

High pull #dip deadlift workout today. 4 sets 6reps. Have not done the lateral raise variation since I was 17:) 23yrs. Did some wide dips respect for the ironcross conditioning journey. I have not done more than 3 reps on the #deadlift for about 4yrs did these and some 8 rep squats the last 2 weeks and put 2kg of weight on. Have consciously tried to get as light as possible and maintain as much strength in my lower body. #calethenics#movementculture#strength#bondi#gains
