Time for me to awkwardly over share again!😳 Because I have a need to constantly take in data & learn from experiences 🤓 I wanted to see how training for a marathon would effect my body composition & what changes I could make next time to correct any negative effects. I went for a DEXA scan just before the Mississauga 1/2 marathon (full results of that is somewhere on my IG page) , about 1.5 months before marathon training, for a baseline scan, & went for a post marathon scan today. I’m actually surprised by the results, my body fat dropped from 17.5% to 16.2% and my muscle mass increased by 1lb while maintaining my weight! I actually thought I had gained fat after increasing my calories. I had been consulting with a  registered sports dietician & a strength training expert to ensure my weight would stay stable & to avoid muscle loss, so it worked out very well! My bone density has always been on the higher side of normal so I wanted to maintain that as well since stress fractures are a problem in female distance runners, but my bone density has gone up even higher! I haven’t had time to thoroughly go over the results, but from the looks of things everything went according to plan!! My goal for next training cycle is to improve on the strength training, I admittedly slacked a bit on that😬.

Every day I feel more and more tiny ... No filters just me in my not so skinny jeans🤣🤣 Absalutley nothing fits now not even my gym cloths..LOL and i am still chipping away.. As always up and out for cardio and morning clients all done.. Feet up for an hour before i start again and yep this is my rest day.. New training program is written up and i am set to hit the last 3 weeks of this prep... This week @oakstrengthemma visited us for her second scan 💪🏼

Here you can see the postural analysis section from her scans (1st image is from her scan 6 weeks ago, second image is from this week). Notice how the central line through the grid has moved from being over to one side, to falling back to the middle.

Emma has worked super hard on her posture since her first scan which clearly showed she favours a lean towards one side more than the other
•
Emma is a personal trainer and therefore spends a lot of time on her feet - she noticed that how she stands (leaning to one side, hips bumped out) effected not only her stance, but also her muscular ability on her weaker side
•
As women we are particularly poor at maintaining a steady posture (think high heels, posing for photos, and carrying babies on our hips). Look at the photos we see in the media of women posing for a photo - how often do we see them standing straight on and upright, with weight distributed evenly to both sides? •
Poor posture can be linked to all kinds of issues, and in the case of “the lean” we often adopt, this puts pressure on our lower back and hips causing muscular imbalances and strains

Emma’s current scan clearly shows a significant improvement in her posture - this is because being given a visual awareness of how she holds herself has given her the opportunity to address it 😊

Happy to say I went from having 21% body fat to 19% and lost 8cm overall as well as losing 0.75kg

I debated about sharing this but as many of you know I’m kinda like real and raw. 😂 Just kinda. I took a DexaFit Dexa (DXA) scan which is considered the industry-leader and most trusted way to measure your body fat, lean mass, and bone health. 💪🏼 I also did a 3 d scan to give me complete measurements so I could track my results since I incorporated a training regimen. The test gave me some much needed answers and I found out that I don’t have osteoporosis, osteoarthritis or osteopenia!! I was told that because of MS steroid use in the past that my bones were thin and it was probable that I had it or beginning stages. I started exercise /resistant training as I knew that a hormone is released to build bones. Well it’s working but it also allowed me to get a real picture of my body as I continue to heal and rebuild my
body that was lost due to lack of movement as a result of fatigue from MS. Also it was confirmed to stay away from cardio because it doesn’t serve you like resistant training does. 🏋️‍♀️ So the journey continues and if you want a real picture of your body, throw away the scale, tape measurer and get a dexa scan + 3 D scan. I had been farting around the 18% body fat mark for 6 weeks! Do you have any idea how disheartening and painful it had been to stay disciplined and consistent when there were such miniscule, miserable, little changes? 😭

I made a conscious decision to change my mindset from fed up to determined, I emotionally detached myself from the fat pinching calipers and I focused on that 16%. After all, what life lessons am I teaching my girls if I don't persevere and just think 'F*ck it, where the Percy Pigs at?' Being defeated or slowing down were not an option. Your mind is either your most powerful tool or your worst enemy! Train it to work for you not against you... 🧘

I had my measurements done yesterday  and guess what?! FINALLY 16.1%... 🙌🙌🙌 there is a lot to be said for manifestation. The 12% goal is feeling far more achievable now, there is no room for self doubt at this point. Bring on the next 5 weeks buddy.... 🏋🏽‍♀️

You will feel better and better as the weeks go by (with the right coach/strategy) and you feel more and more confident so long as you put your full effort in and you know you are doing so.✨

I am writing this as there is a lot of confusion between the two. If you already know there know the difference then this blog is not for you. If there is any doubt or confusion or I heard this from Debbie at the office or I think I know or myths you have heard, this is for you.

I aim to break down the difference so it just makes sense.

What is weight loss?

Weight loss is the reduction of overall body weight. This can be voluntary by exercise and nutrition or involuntary by illness.

What is fat loss?

Fat loss is the reduction of fat in the body. This fat is stored in adipose tissues, these are found under the skin, body cavity and in small amounts in our muscles. It is often measured as a percentage versus your overall body weight.

 The scale lies! No really though, here's a great example of why your weight isn't a good determinant of your health. Highlighted is my starting weight and ending weight over a two month period. Notice I'm almost exactly the same weight, BUT my body composition has changed dramatically. Below that you'll see I've gained 3.1lbs of muscle mass and dropped my body fat by 1.9%! All while still weighing almost exactly the same. So even though my weight is the same, I've actually changed the ratio of fat to muscle which is a MUCH better indicator of health. If you want to be smart about tracking your progress, tracking what your weight is composed of will serve you much better than just tracking your total weight.

Today reviewing a most important thing of our skin care routine.
It's a sunscreen🌞 from @innisfreeindia
Innisfree suggested me this for my acne prone combination skin when I asked for a lightweight yet water resistant sunscreen.
So coming to the point this sunscreen will not break out you for sure. I used it around 2 3 months. It has slightly oily feeling in it. And it feels sticky  and if you sweat a lot you can't resist this sunscreen. Stickiness is there even after hours after  applications so re application is bad here. When i apply foundation over it, maked difficult to blend and almost couldn't blend. It gives a brightening effect on face so you can go with sunscreen and compact powder only but still i will suggest not to wear this in summers. I handle it because i dont apply anything on it and i can bear that stickiness but not going to repurchase it. It provides spf50+++ so it prevents tanning also.. Because its a physical sunscreen that stickiness is must. But if you will wear it alone with out anything on face you can easily go for it.

***Calorie Deficit***

If a person's main goal is fat loss from their body then the person must get to what is known as a Calorific Deficit. I reckon alot of you would of seen on many fitness bloggers pages or other PT pages but I'm going to touch on it today as it came up in a couple of sessions this and I want to help others to understand the in's and out's of it.

So a Calorific Deficit is essentially being below the maintenance level of calories you as a person must take in to stimulate fat. 
If your maintenance level is 2000cals and you get to a deficit of 1800cals then yes you are on the right track !! .
.
Now my main point is this lady was going good all throughout the week Monday-Friday at a deficit which was perfect but at the Weekends between going out, eating out and overindulging brought her up towards 3000cals which can actually easily be done that you wouldn't even realise how much is going into your body.

 Firstly I'm not saying you can't enjoy yourself at the weekends do !! But if your main goal is fat loss you need to be careful of the amount you take in so you don't over do it and set yourself back ! By having near or on the 3000 mark at the weekend can throw the average of your calorie intake for that week from 1800-2142calories which actually means you are now at a surplus of calories. We are all humans and love to enjoy our weekends with friends or partners, hell we need to after a crap week ! But if your goal is fat loss you have to stop and know that if you over do it at the weekend it will have a big effect over all. As the saying goes "Everything In Moderation" .
